M ., the oldest member of the lodge , who was initiated nearly 50 years since , and who had come specially some distance to assist at this special gathering . Bro . White in a very feeling and appropriate address , spoke upon the very many Masonic virtues of the host

of that evening , and although from his extreme age , he was unable to be often among the brethren he had from time to time heard how much good his worthy brother Dr . Hopkins had done and was still doing . He personally offered his most heartfelt and sincere congratulations to the doctor on his 75 th birthday , and trusted he would be spared for many years to give the lodge the benefit of his wide Masonic experience , and he could assure Bro . Dr .

Hopkins he was simply echoing the sentiments of all present , to which all assented by acclamation . Bro . Dr . Hopkins on rising to respond received a very hearty welcome . He said so many kind things had been expressed by his friends he felt unable to return adequate thanks , but he could assure them he most highly appreciated the very kind and fraternal remarks and good wishes of all . He came amongst them a stranger , he had found many sincere friends , he had pleasure in being a member of

No . 41 , and he trusted they had no cause to regret his advent amongst them . During the past few years he had striven to assist all who came to him for help , and to render them thoroughly efficient in the various rituals of the order , and be had now the proud satisfaction of knowing that when it should please the G . A . O . T . U . to call him hence , there were those who could carry on efficiently the work of the lodges , & c , with which he had hpen associated .

Bro . Sanderson , P . M . 379 , gave "The Royal Cumberland Lodge , No . 41 ; St . Pauls , No . 43 , Birmingham ; and Lodge ot Relief , No . 42 , Bury , " each of which celebrate their third jubilee some time this year . Bros . Mercer , W . M ., and R . B . Cater , P . M . 41 , suitably responded . Bro . Rubie , P . M ., proposed "The Royal Arch Chapter , Mark Lodge , and other lodges represented . "

Bro . H . Culhford Hopkins responded for 379 , Bro . L . Howes for the Royal Arch Chapter , and Bro . Radway for the Mark Lodge , and Bro . F . Glover , W . M . elect , for No . goO . Bro . J . G . Wilton proposed the "Wives , Daughters , and Sisters of Masons , " responded to by Bro . T . Ames . In justice to the host , Bro . Dr . H . Hopkins , a few more words are necessary . It was he who during his

Mastership in 1 S 80 celebrated the 100 th year of the Freemasons ' Hall medal given to the lodge for monetary assistance rendered towards builjing the grand hall in London , so recently unfortunately destroyed . In 1 SS 2 was issued the first charier from Grand Chapter ever granted to a Royal Arch chapter to wear a centenary je . vel ; and now , to finish what Bro . Dr . Hopkins has commenced , has taken place the " Third Jubilee " of the lodge . Long may the doctor be spared to be amongst us , aiding and assisting

in the grand principles of the Order , and when the G . A . O . T . U . calls him to thc Grand Lodge above , may his memory be cherished b y the members of the lodge and chap ' eras a good worker in Masonry , a lover of the Order , and a sincere friend and brother .
