MITTEE . "The Genera ! Committee reports to the Quarterly General Court that , in consequence of an intimation conveyed to the House Committee from the owner of the freehold land adjacent to the Institution—that he was about to offer for sale nine acres , or thereabouts , bounding two sides of its grounds , and that the lowest sum he would take for the whole , which he declined to divide , was at the rate of £ 4 , 000 per acre—Col . Creaton , with the concurrence of his colleagues , had obtained from him a promise that such land should not be sold until the views and opinion of the General Court as to the advisability of acquiring the property for the Institution could be obtained . That taking into consideration the facts that the land , if sold to a third party , might be dealt with in a manner most prejudicial to the School , and that if purchased by the Institution a very considerable and valuable portionof it could be re-sold , this Committee consider the subject is one which should receive the fullest consideration at the hands of the governing body of the Institution . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , — 1 feel sure most of your readers will concur in the very reasonable request contained in the letter of "An old Life Governor , " that the Governors of the Boys '

School should receive explicit information as to what proportion of the large sum subscribed at the recent Festival will entitle the donors to the premium votes promised to a limited extent to subscribers to the fund for the building of the projected Junior School . If there be good foundation for the rumour that by far

the larger proportion of thc total amount of £ 22 , 444 was subscribed to this special fund , carrying with it these special privileges , it would appear that notwithstanding the striking sum announced at the Festival there was actually a great falling off in the subscriptions to the General Fund of the Institution as compared with former years . 1 refrain on the present occasion from expressing any

opinion as to the wisdom or justice of offering premium votes as a bribe to obtain subscriptions to a particular charity on a particular occasion and thus discounting future support and subscriptions , but it is only due to the Governors of the Institution , whose steady and generous support in past years has secured to the School the high position it has attained , that they should receive the most distinct and unqualified assurance that the allotment of
