HOSTEL OF S . LUKE .

Some eighteen months ago Bro . Canon W . H . Cooper , P . M ., P . D . G . Chap . Nesv Zealand , founded in London a small | nursing home for Medical and Surgical Cases for the clergy , their wives , and children A General Council was formed , and an influential Committee appointed ; on these bodies the names of many

well known brethren are to be found—Bros , the Dean of York , W ; Sinclair , Archdeacon of London , Dr . H . Courtney Atwood , Rev . John Kingston , R . N ., Rev . Lord Victor Seymour , and Lord Theobald Butler , and others . An honorary staff of leading physicians and surgeons volunteered their services , amongst svhom also the members of the Craft are prominent .

The Bishop of LONDON became president of the institution from the first , as he said , " There could be no question at all about the need of an institution of the kind , " and after the first annual meeting his lordship authorised this recommendation to be printed and circulated : " I warmly recommend the Hostel of S . Luke tb the support of all who feel an interest in the ministry

of the Gospel . —F . LONDIN , April , 1894 . " ¦ Upsvards of 50 cases' have been already received , and medical or surgical treatment , svith nursing and medicine provided free for those whose means did not enable them to pay the ordinary fees , for the others from IOS . to £ 2 2 s . a week covered all expenses . No . 7 on the lists of patients received was an aged brother , described as , "Aged vicar , invalid and unable to meet

the expenses of medical treatment ; tsventy years vicar , married , three children ; gross income ^ 102 with a house and two acres glebe . Admitted free patient , discharged cured in 24 days . " The institution is open to beneficed and unbeneficed clergy ; missionaries who . have returned home invalided ; Colonial or Indian clergy and the wives and children of . all these classes . A provision is also made for consultation and treatment for those svho do not wish to

be received as in-patients . Bro . Cannon W . H . Cooper , the Hon . Secretary , whose address is , the Church House , Dean Yard , Westminster , S . W ., will be glad to give any information , and send the necessary paper for applying for admission , to anyone writing to him . He would particularly beg the brethren to let him know of any cases requiring help , and he asks for the co-operation of the Chaplains of the Craft .
