The annual meeting of the ab we Provincial Grand Chap' . er was held at the Masonic Hall , Reading , on Tuesday , the 26 th ult ., 011 the same day as the annual installation convocation of the Union Chapter , No . 414 . The Union Chapter was opened by Comp . J . C . B . Tirbutt , M . E . Z ., assisted by Comps . C . Slaughter , H . ; C . E . Hewett , J . ; W . Ravenscroft , S . E . ; W . Bonny , P . Soj . ; and A . Tupman , P . Z . The ceremony of exaltation

was then gone through , after which the Principals elect of the chapter were installed as follows : Comp . Slaughter was installed in the chair of M . E . Z . by Comp . R . C . Mount , P . FREEMASONRY IN SOUTH AFRICA .

The magnificent new building , the Freemasons' Hall in Jeppe-street , Johannesburg , South African Republic , was found to be the most complete of its kind by a visitor at the installation ceremony of the Goldfields Lodge , No . 2478 , on Thursday , October 24 th . The Worshipful Master was Bro . Jos : ph DA Silv 1 , P . M . 205 and 2255 London , District Grand Sec . Transvaal , and the great popularity of the incoming Master was shown by the large number of visitors present .

The lodge was opened by the Deputy District Grand Master , Bro . H . T . E . Pretorius , the other offices being filled by various members of the District Grand Lodge . The visitors numbered about 250 brethren , among whom were representatives from the various English , Dutch , Scotch , and Irish Constitutions in the Transvaal , and the varied designs and colours of the regalia gave a very pleasing effect .

Among the visitors were several from the Cape Colony and distant land ;! , and included Bros . W . B . Condon , G . D . Tasmania ; R . H . King , Peace and Harmony Lodge , Dutoitspan , Kimberley ; G . C . Herbert , P . M . 2108 , London ; Douglas Chester , P . M ,. 742 , London ; A . J . Henochsberg , P . M . 205 , London , and 1502 , Liverpool , P . P . G . D . C . West Lancashire ; and very many well-known brethren .

A raised dais in the east accommodated the District Grand Lodge Officers and the visiting brethren of rank in the Craft . In the absence of Bro . G . Richards , District Grand Master , through indisposition , and from whom a letter was read , the W . M . elect was duly installed by the Dep . District Grand Master , Bro . Pretorius , according to ancient custom , and

the beautiful ceremony was most impressively rendered . The following brethren were invested : Bros . A . F . Goldberg , S . W . ; M . Zeffert , J . W . j A . Alexander , Treas . ; Divett , P . The address to the W . M . was delivered by Bro . Dr . EXTON , D . G . R ., that to the Wardens by Bro . C . ARBURROW , D . S . G . W ., and that to the brethren by the WORSHIPFUL MASTER , the latter a slight innovation , perhaps , but one well worth following . The WORSHIPFUL MASTER , at the close of the ceremony of installation , in a

very feeling address , welcomed the District Grand Officers and the visitors , and thanked them for their attendance , and alluded to the fact of brethren from distant paits of the world , and even from that small place , London , meeting in open lodge in the Transvaal , and more particularly referred to the pleasure he had in welcoming his fellow worker and Past Master of his mother lodge , Bro . Henochsberg .

The DEP . DIST . GRAND MASTER addressed the brethren , as did various other visitors , all testifying in glowing terms to the zeal and ability at all times displayed by the W . M ., and as an earnest and conscientious Masonic worker . He

A raised dais in the east accommodated the District Grand Lodge Officers and the visiting brethren of rank in the Craft . In the absence of Bro . G . Richards , District Grand Master , through indisposition , and from whom a letter was read , the W . M . elect was duly installed by the Dep . District Grand Master , Bro . Pretorius , according to ancient custom , and

the beautiful ceremony was most impressively rendered . The following brethren were invested : Bros . A . F . Goldberg , S . W . ; M . Zeffert , J . W . j A . Alexander , Treas . ; Divett , P . M ., Sec . ; G . Bingham , S . D . ; C . J . Meintjes , J . D . ; J . Bloom , D . C . ; J . Shulman , I . G . ; and B . Alexander , H . Marks , and W . Annet * , Stewards .

The address to the W . M . was delivered by Bro . Dr . EXTON , D . G . R ., that to the Wardens by Bro . C . ARBURROW , D . S . G . W ., and that to the brethren by the WORSHIPFUL MASTER , the latter a slight innovation , perhaps , but one well worth following . The WORSHIPFUL MASTER , at the close of the ceremony of installation , in a

very feeling address , welcomed the District Grand Officers and the visitors , and thanked them for their attendance , and alluded to the fact of brethren from distant paits of the world , and even from that small place , London , meeting in open lodge in the Transvaal , and more particularly referred to the pleasure he had in welcoming his fellow worker and Past Master of his mother lodge , Bro . Henochsberg .

The DEP . DIST . GRAND MASTER addressed the brethren , as did various other visitors , all testifying in glowing terms to the zeal and ability at all times displayed by the W . M ., and as an earnest and conscientious Masonic worker . He
