LEEDS . —Philanthropic Lodge ( No . 304 ) . —At the regular meeting of this lodge , held on Wednesday , the 29 th ult ., in the Masonic Hall , Great George-street , there was a large muster both of brethren and visitors , it being scrolling-night . M . elect thanked the brethren for their kindness and for the confidence they

had reposed in him , as evidenced b y their unanimous vote . It was only when elected to the position as occupant of the chair of K . S . that he realised the gravity and importance of the duties he had undertaken . He trusted that when his year of office ceased he vvould carry with him , in as great a degree as he now possessed it , the confidence of his brethren . He relied upon the kindness and support of the P . M . ' s to enable him to perform his exalted duties with

credit to himself and advantage to the Iodge . Bro . Mason , the Charity Steward for the lodge , made a powerful appeal on behalf of the Benevolent Institution . He called attention to the benefits which the Province of West Yorks received from that fund , benefits in which the Philanthropic Lodge especially shared , and he hoped this would be an incentive to several brethren to come forward as Stewards at the Annual Festival in February next . The rest of the evening was spent in harmony .

the duties connected with the responsible position of W . M . He especially commended Bro . Greatbach for the great interest vvhich he always manifested in the Charities connected with the Craft . The toast vvas drunk vvith enthusiasm , and Bro . Greatbach responded in suitable terms . Bros . Blair and Clayton acknowledged the toast of " The

Visitors , " proposed by Bro . Tunnicliff . Bro . Prince proposed " Success to the Menturia Lodge , " and the sentiment was endorsed by the most cordial expressions of approval . Bro . Hales made an appropriate acknowledgment . After the toast of "The I . P . M . " had been heartily drunk , at the call of the W . M ., and duly acknowledged by

Bro . Jackson , Bro . Charlesworth gave the toast of " The Officers of the Lodge , " for whom Bro . Robinson , S . D ., responded . The toast of "The Masonic Charities" was submitted by Bro . W . Hampton , and Bro . Windle was called upon to respond . He said the position vvhich the Menturia Lodge occupied with rospect to the Staffordshire Masonic

Charitable Association vvas a most honourable one . Down to the end of last year the Menturia had contributed £ 62 7 16 s . to the Association—a larger sum than had been received from any other lodge to that date , ard the lodge could give 57 votes for the Boys' and Girls' Schools . Last year the Abbey Lodge , Burton , made a special effort and contributed no less than i ' 127 16 s ., which made their subscription list

exceed that of the Menturia by £ 2 17 s . ( 3 d . The Menturia was in the fortunate position of never having required aid for the family of any of its members . Notwithstanding exceptional circumstances had occurred the last year , the subscription list was in the highest degree creditable to the

Menturia Lodge . "The Health of the Ladies" vvas proposed by Bro . Dr . Crapper , and responded to by Bro . Thorley . Then came the Tyler's toast . During the evening some excellent music was given , and the evening vvas spent in a very joyous manner .

BINGLEY—Scientific Lodge ( No . 439 ) . —The annual festival of this lodge vvas held at the Masonic Rooms , Fleece Inn , on Wednesday evening , the 29 th ult . Bro . H . S . Wood , J . W ., was installed in the chair , and a large number of members and visiting brethren from other lodges were present . The installation ceremony was gone through in a most able manner by Bro . J . Youings , in submitting the toast of

"Success and Prosperity to Goderich Lodge , " alluded to the happy time he had spent inside its portals , and to the cordial relations which had existed between himself and the Iodge , since he had been installed . The more he knew of Masonry , the more he loved it . Bro . Crowe , P . M ., P . P . G . D ., one of the founders of the lodge , responded , and said that during the 19 years of its

existence Goderich had been in the rank of all good works . The name vvould be found on all the great Charities . During the long connection he had had vvith the Iodge he had received the greatest kindness from the brethren , and he cordially wished to them and the lodge a Happy and Prosperous New Year . Other speeches , interspersed with songs , followed , and a happy evening was spent .
