MASONIC BENEVOLENCE IN 1897 .
Notwithstanding tho numerous calls made upon the brethren individually in respect of Diamond Jubilee Commemoration Funds and for ordinary charitable purposes , the aggregate of ( heir contributions during 18 97 to our three Masonic Institutions ,
as well as of the total incomes of those Charities for that year , is substantiall y larger than in any other vcar since 1 S 92 , when the Benevolent Institution celebrated its Jubilee , and the Donalions and Subscriptions raised in its behalf were exceptionally
formidable in amount . In 1 S 93 , the total received by the three Institutions reached £ 59 , 051 14 s . 9 CI ., of which the Royal . Masonic Benevolent Institution obtained £ 20 , 436 2 s . Si ] . ; the tlirls' School , £ 17 , 052 3 s . 2 d . ; and the Boys' School ,
£ 21 , 5 6 3 8 s . id . In 1894 , it reached £ 65 , 912 7 s . Sd ., the Benevolent receiving £ 20 , 7 82 3 s . 1 rd . ; the Girls' School , £ 20 , 043 7 ' '
18 95 , there was a falling off , and the total only amounted to £ 62 , 628 9 s . id ., the Benevolent share being £ 21 , 720 10 s . 6 i ] . \ that of the Girls' School , £ 18 , 211 os . 6 d . ; and that of the Boys ' School , £ 22 , 6 9 6 iSs . id . In 1806 , there was a great recovery ,
and the aggregate reached £ 68 , 918 2 s . 51 ! ., the Benevolent receiving £ 25 ) 65 o 16 s . 6 d . ; the Girls' School , £ 19 , 66 4 3 s . 1 id . ; and the Boys' School , £ 23 , 603 2 s . In 1 X 97 , the total , exclusive of the £ 6000 voted in equal parts among the three Institutions , was
