Lodge in so far as not coincident with this motion be repealed . " The motion was unanimously adopted , and the Grand Masters passed a hig h eulogium on Bro . Lawrie , Grand Clerk , for his valuable business services to Grand Lodge during the

past two years , a compliment which was warmly endorsed by the brethren present . It was unanimously agreed that the hour of meeting should in future be live , instead of six o ' clock . Bro . Abbot . No . 1 , then moved the following

motion . — " That all lodges holding of this Grand Lodge , whether represented or not by their Alaster and AVardens , shall be compelled to pay the fees exi g ible for representation in Grand Lodge , on the 24 th J tins annually , if not paid by their representatives previously . "

Bro . John Baird seconded the motion , and after some discussion it was agreed to . Bro . Lindsay Alackersey then brought forward the following motion : "That in future the Alaster shall appoint the Depute Grand Alaster , and the Grand Lodge laws

so far as inconsistent with this are hereby altered . " Bro . Dr . Loth seconded the motion , and after the Grand Master had made some remarks bearing on the subject , it was unanimously agreed to .

Alotions for consideration at next meeting having been laid upon the table , Grand Lodge was closed in ample form .

On Alonday , 27 th ult ., a meeting of the 'Committee of Petitions was held at the Masonic Hall , Exeter , feir the despatch of business . The D . P . G . AL , Bro . L . P . Aletham , presided . Bro , Gover , the Secretary , read the proceedings of the last meeting , anil stated that a boy , named

Sawtell , was eleeti-d fifth in the last election of boys into the Alasonic Boys' School . In order to effect his election they had used all their own voles , and Bro . Stevens , the agent of this Province in London , had borrowed 500 votes , se > as to secure Sawtell's election . In consequence ol

ibis loan all the voles of the Province were p ledged this year to be sent to London . Tin committee then proceeded to consider the applications for relief , and f r , was voted now to a poor brother at Bideford , and £ 5 will be voted at a future time . An application for relief foi

a widow at Plymouth was next considered , and £ r was voted , subject to the decision of Bros . AJethain and Latimer , in whose hands the casewas left for some inquiry . A letter was reael from a widow at Totnes , thanking the committee for a former vote , and asking for fin tiler

assistance . This letter was deferred . It was then proposed that the votes of the Provino , should be given for a decayed brother livinj at Sidmouth , a Freemason of ^ years ' standing and of a hi g h character , as a candidate for admission into the Royal Benevol nt Institution for Decayed and Indigent Alasons . Tin

proposal was unanimously agreed to , and it was nrgeel that all votes should be sent from tin whole of the lodges in the Province to the Committee e > f Petitions . This would bring the whof of the Province into co-operation , and woul . i g ive to every Iodge a right by union to claim relief for any distressed brethren .
