Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

Bro . Barling , I . P . M ., said that the toast he had to propose was " The Health of the Worshipful Master . " The way in which they had received the announcement of the toast left him but little to say . When they considered that the W . M . was initiated in that lodge , and after a very short period represented the lodge as Steward at the Boys' School Festival , and took up the magnificent sum of between £ 600

and £ 700 , and that he shortly afterwards was one of the founders of the Henry Levander Lodge , and again , after a brief interval , was a founder and the first Master of the Hendon Lodge , and was besides a P . M . of the St . John ' s Lodge , and that in connection with one or another of these lodges he had gone as Steward to one or another oi the Charity Festivals . When they got such a Master with such a

reputation in the chair of the Royal Savoy Lodge , he thought the brethren would agree with him in thinking that that Master deserved all the honour they could pay him . Bro . Scurrah in reply , said that lie had to return them his very hearty thanks for the very kind words in which the toast had been proposed , and for the enthusiastic reception which had been accorded to it . He was sure that Bro .

Barling had spoken in a more flattering manner than he should have done . He felt very much delighted and very proud to stand at the head of that lodge . He had been initiated in it some six years ago , and now he stood before them as their W . M . He had to thank the brethren for the unanimous manner in which they had voted him into the chair ; and he could assure them that as he

had proved himself in the past , endeavouring to do what he could for the benefit of Freemasonry , so he would endeavour to do in the future . It had been metioned by the I . P . M . that some years ago he acted as Steward for that lodge for the Boys' Institution , and he was enabled by the kindness of his friends , Bro . Stiles , P . M ., and Bro . Capt . Knightley , to take up the munificent

sum of 600 guineas . And when he told them that was in the year of his initiation , he thought he might say very emphatically , that he had even at that time a very great idea of Freemasonry . And he could say that that idea had not lessened down to the present time , but he had now a more exalted idea of the Craft than he had ever had before . And if every brother would only carry out the tenets and

principles of the Order it would be one of the most sublime Orders on the face of the earth . The W . M . next proposed a comprehensive toast , embracing "The Installing Master , Bro . Stiles , the I . P . M ., Bro . Barling , and the rest of the Past Masters , " of whom Bros . J . C . Smith , Jacques , and H . Dickey were present . Bro . Stiles responded in his usual hearty manner , and

Bro . Barling also returned thanks . "The Health of the Visitors" was the next toast proposed by the W . M ., who called upon Bros . Bolton , P . J . G . W . Kent ; Kilvington , W . M . 1790 ; James Thorn , W . M . 2331 ; Graham , S . W . 2271 ; and Webster , M . P ., J . W . 2271 , to respond . Want of space makes it impossible to do justice to the replies of these brethren , and it must therefore suffice to record that each of the five visitors

named made a neat little speech m reply . " The Health of the Treasurer and the Secretary , " a combined toast , was the next proposed by Bro . Scurrah , and in the absence of Bro . Willing , Bro . Dickie replied for both . " The Health of the Officers of the Lodge " followed , which was acknowledged by the two Wardens , and then the

Tyler ' s toast brought a very pleasant evening to a close . There was a capital programme of music , the performers being Messrs . Lamont ( violin ) , and Buck ( flute ) , and Bro . H . VV . Lawrance , Org . 2271 . There were also two volunteers , Bros . Sarjeant , and Arthur Strugnell , 2264 , whose Yeoman ' s wedding song was one of the most enjoyable bits of the entertainment .

M ., with the Past Master's jewel which had been unanimously voted him at the previous regular meeting , in recognition of his services as Master , and in doing so expressed the hope that he would live long to wear it as a memorial of the kindly feeling which actuated the members of the lodge towards him . Bro .

Martin having gracefully acknowledged the gift , the brethren elected representatives to serve on the Provincial Audit Committee and Hertfordshire Charity Association respectively , and trustees , officers , and Committee for the year of the Gladsmuir Benevolent Fund . Three candidates for initiation having been severally proposed and seconded , " Hearty good wishes " were expressed hy the visitors , and lodge was closed .

Provincial Meetings.

An adjournment was then made to 'the banquet room , where , under the presidency of Bro . J . H . Baxter , W . M ., full justice was done to the excellent menu prepared by the new proprietor of the Red Lion . After grace had been said , the W . M . briefly proposed the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , associating the name of Bro . C . Bullock , Prov . G . Sec , with that of " Deputy Prov . Grand Master and the rest of the Provincial Officers ,

Present and Past . " In replying , Bro . Bullock remarked that it was the first time he had visited the Gladsmuir Lodge , and expressed the very great pleasure which the visit had afforded him . 'Their reception of him had been most kind and cordial , and they might always rely on his good offices to do what lay in his power to promote the welfare and prosperity of the

lodge . Bro . Bullock concluded by congratulating the officers and members on the manner in which the duties of the lodge had been carried out , and paid Bro . Martin , l . P . M ., a graceful compliment for the manner in which he had acted as Installing Master . The toast of the evening , that of "The Worshipful

Master of the Gladsmuir Lodge , " was given by Bro . Martin , I . P . M ., who congratulated Bro . Baxter on having attained his present position , and expressed the belief that the fair fame of the lodge , while under the guardianship of Bro . Baxter , would be in excellent keeping , and that he would hand it on unsullied to the brother who succeeded

him . Bro . Baxter having briefly thanked the brethren for their kindness and expressed his determination to perforin the duties of his office to the utmost of his ability , concluded by giving the toast of "The Installing Officer . " For " The Visitors " Bros . Christmas , Poole , and others replied , and the usual compliment having been paid to

Bro . Barling , I . P . M ., said that the toast he had to propose was " The Health of the Worshipful Master .
