appointed his officers in rotation . On rising for the third time , Bro . Hazlett proposed " That a hearty vote of thanks be given to their worthy Preceptor , Bro . Ernest Farwig , for his " handsome present of a large tin box in which to keep the working tools of the lodge of instruction . It was a most graceful and kind act . The vote to be recorded

Emanuel was assisted by the brethren to work the 1 st and 2 nd Sections of the Lecture . Bro . Liscombe was elected W . M . for the ensuing week , and the lodge was closed .

CLARENCE LODGE ( No . 263 ) . —The usual weekly meeting of this new and prosperous lodge of instruction was held on Thursday , the 30 th ult ., at Tupp ' s Restaurant , S , Tottenham Court-road , when there were present Bros . brethren , making in all an attendance of about 20 . The lodge having been duly opened , the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed , after which the ceremony of passing was rehearsed in a most able and correct manner by the W . M ., Bro . Bulling acting as candidate . The 2 nd and 3 rd Sections of the Second Lecture were then

worked by Bros . Sadler , P . M ., and Kirby , Preceptor , respectively . Bros . Henry S . Wellcome and J . W . Drysdale were unanimously elected as joining members . The VV . M . for the ensuing week being elected , appointed his officers in rotation , and announced that the work would be a rehearsal of the Third ceremony at the next meeting .

G . Wood , who duly installed Bro . Stratton into the chair of K . S . according to ancient custom . The brethren having saluted the VV . M . in the three Degrees , the VV . M . appointed and invested his officers , after which the Preceptor impressively delivered the three

addresses . Bros . Reed and Ogilly were elected joining members . The S . W ., Bro . Pozzati , was elected W . M . for the ensuing week , and appointed the officers in rotation . A cordial vote of thanks was unanimously passed and entered on the minutes to Bro . G . Wood , the Preceptor , for rehearsing the ceremony of installation for the first time in this lodge of instruction . Bro . G . Wood suitably responded . Nothing further offering tor the good of Freemasonry , after " Hearty good wishes " the lodge was closed .

The lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . R . H . Williams offering himself as a candidate for passing , was entrusted . The lodge was opened in the Second Degree , and the ceremony reheaised . Bro . Reid having given proofs of his proficiency , was entrusted . Second and First Degree respectively , Bro . J . Suns , P . M ., acting as Installing Master , Bro . Lucas investing the officers in a very able and efficient manner , Bro . J . Sims , P . M ., rendering the addresses in his usual able and impressive manner . The VV . M . having risen , the Secretary informed the VV . M . that the next meeting would be officers of the
