The last scene in connection with the death of Prince Henry of Battenberg was enacted in VVhippingham Church on Wednesday , when his remains were interred in their last resting-place in the vault beneath the Royal Pew . It was in this same church some 10 or II years ago that the deceased and the Queen ' s

youngest daughter , the Princess Beatrice , were married , and it is said to have been by the late Prince ' s own desire that his body is buried there . At all events , due honour was paid to his memory , and the mournful ceremony , attended with all the pomp and circumstance proper to a personage of his exalted station .

took place in the presence of the Queen , the widowed Princess , the sons and daughters , and other relatives of our gracious Sovereign , and ot the representatives of foreign Royal personages , of the Diplomatic Corps , ministers , and oflicers of the army , navy , and civil

service . The scene was most imposing , as well as most solemn , and we again offer our respectful sympathy lo the Queen and her family on the event which has cast so deep a gloom over them as well as over the country which respects and lovej them so devotedly .

It will be seen from our report of the Quarterly Convocation of Supreme Grand Chapter on Wednesday , that of the five chapters for which warrants have been granted , three are located in London and two in the Provinces . The London chapters arc the Eccentric Chapter attached to Lodge No . 2488 , beaiing the

same name ; the Fellowship Chapter , attached to the Fellowship Lodge , No . 2535 ; ar . d the Southern Star Chapter , attached to the Southern Star Lodge , No . 1158 . The Provincial Chapters are the White Rose of York , No . 2491 , attached to the lodge of the same

name , and meeting in Sheffield , in the Province of West Yorkshire ; and the Studholme Brownrigg Chapter , attached to the Carrington Lodge , No . 2421 , and meeting at Amersham , in the Province of Buckinghamshire . # * *

We have great pleasure in announcing that his Royal Highness , the M . W . Grand Master has been pleased to grant a warrant for the constitution of a new lodge to be known as the Holloway Lodge , No . 2601 . The Master designate is Bro . James Terry , P . G . S . B ., Secretary of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , while the Wardens designate are Bro

F . Varley , P . M . of the John Hervey Lodge , No . 1260 , and Bro . Jones , P . M . Bedford Lodge , No . 157 . Under such able auspices we are confident that the Holloway Lodge , which has our best wishes for its success , will have no difficulty in steering its way through the difficulties with which every new Iodge is to a greater or less extent beset at the outset of its career .

* * It is worthy of record that the Perseverance Lodge , No . 213 , Norwich—to the recent celebration of whose centenary we referred in our " Notes " of last week—by way of marking that auspicious event in a permanent way , voted from its funds moneys sufficient to qualify it

as a Vice-President of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys and the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . We have also to note that Bro . Hamon Le Strange , P . G . D ., Dep . Prov . G . Master , read a very interesting account of the career of the lodge , which will be included in his forthcoming History of the Craft in the Province of Norfi Ik .

* * * By the way , an unusual inciden . occurred to this lodge some 20 years ago . Its warrant mysteriously disappeared and a warrant of confirmation was appli ed for and granted in February , 18 7 6 . The lodge , however , had not been long working under the latter , when the original was restored to its rightful owner as

mysteriously as it had disappeared . Fortunately , such incidents , which are suggestive of a decided ignorance , on the part of some person or persons unknown , of the difference between ineiiin and tiiiini , are not of frequent occurrence in the experience of our lodges . The circumstances are referred to briefly in Bro . John Lane ' s " Masonic Records . "

» It appears from the latest Statistical Table compiled by Comp . Josiah H . Drummond of Maine , that the number of subscribing Royal Arch Masons in North America is 199 , 580 . The Grand Chapter of New York heads the list of United States Grand Chapters

with a total of 18 , 787 , that of Illinois being second with 15 , 846 , and Pennsylvania close up third with 15 , 479 . Ohio and Massachusetts are so close together that they may be said almost to tie for fourth place , the former numbering 13 . 373 and the latter 13 , 304 . The only other Grand Chapter whose aggregate

membership exceeds 10 , 000 is that of Michigan , which has 12 , 338 . Those of Iowa , Missouri , and Indiana have 6 937 , 64 S 5 and 6315 on their respective rolls , and there are six other Grand Chapters which can boast of upwards of 5000 companions , namely those of California , Connecticut , Kansas , Maine , Texas , and Wisconsin , the smallest Grand Chapter being that of Arizona with

only 18 7 companions . Of course , the bulk of these 199 . 580 " Royal Archers " are located in the United States , the Grand Chapters in British Territory—Canada , New Brunswick , Nova Scotia , and Quebecmustering together some 6170 , the strongest of the four being that of Canada with 4634 companions . * * *

It will be seen from our report in another column that the installation meeting of the Savage Club Lodge , No . 21 9 , was , as usual , a brilliant success . There was a very large attendance of members and

visitors , among the latter being several of the most prominent Masons of the day , while the after-dinner proceedings , which form so conspicuous a feature of this gathering , were such as only a Savage Club Lodge could furnish .
