The local Freemasons in Dover are having ; a Masonic Temple constructed near the General Post Office , with the object of having the whole of the lodges meeting under the same roof . Bro . Vice-Admiral Sir E . Commerell , V . C ., presided at a banquet given by the Beaconsfield Club on the 30 th ult . to the Executive Commissioners of the

Colonial and Indian Exhibition . THE ROYAL ORDER OF SCOTLAND . —The Earl of Rosslyn , Depute Grand Master and Governor of this Order , will preside at a special meeting to be held in Edinburgh on the afternoon of Wednesday , 5 th prox-The funeral of Lady Florence Herbert took place on Saturday last , the mourners in attendance

including Bros , the Hon . Auberon Herbert , Earl Cowper , the Earl of Carnarvon , and the Hon . Henry Cowper . The May session of the Central Criminal Court , Old Bailey , was opened on Monday by Bro . the Lord Mayor , who was accompanied by Bro . Alderman

Whitehead , Bro . Alderman and Sheriff Evans , and others . Bro . the Lord Chancellor ( Lord Herschell ) G . S . W ., has very kindly undertaken to preside at the anniversary festival , to be held at Willis ' s Rooms , St . James ' s , on the 26 th June , of the Cabdrivers' Benevolent Association .

A grand fancy dress fair was opened at the Athen-; cum , Camden-road , on Monday , by Bro . Lord Charles Beresford , M . P ., G . J . W ., and Lady Charles Beresford , in aid of thc funds of the North-West London Hospital , Kentish Town-marl .

Bro . Alderman De Keyser was one of the principal guests at the 41 st Anniversary Festival , held at Freemasons' Tavern on Wednesday , of the German Hospital at Dalston . Prince Christian was in the chair , and the subscriptions reached £ 3672 . The Sheriffs of London and Middlesex , Bros . Alderman Evans and W . Clarke , will give a grand dinner

on Saturday , the 19 th June , prox ., in the Haberdashers ' Hall , which has been very kindly placed at their disposal by the Company on the occasion . Bro . Alderman Sir R . N . Fowler , Bart ., M . P ., has promised to preside at the first public dinner to be held in aid of the funds of the National Dental Hospital , 149 , Great Portland-street . The day and place chosen for the

gathering are Tuesday , the 29 th June , at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgate-street . Bro . Lord Randolph Churchill , M . P ., with the Earl of Desart , Lord Curzon , M . P ., and others , have promised their support to Bro . H . B . Marshall , P . G . Treas ., when he takes the chair at the Cannon-street Hotel , on Tuesday , the 25 th inst ., at the annual festival in aid of the Newsvendors' Benevolent Institution .

Bro . Major Lambert , F . S . A ., P . G . S . B ., was one of the principal guests at the 53 rd anniversary festival of the Goldsmiths' Benevolent Institution , which took place at the Holborn Restaurant , on Tuesday evening , and resulted in subscriptions amounting to nearly £ 240 . Bro . Lambert ' s health was drunk as Treasurer of the Charity , and heartily responded to by him .

Bro . H . Windybank , past Chairman of thc Law and City Courts Committee of the Corporation , was presented on Tuesday evening with a handsome silver centrepiece in token of the estimation in which he is generally held and the services he had rendered to the City during the past year . The presentation took place at a dinner given by the Committee at the Guildhall Tavern , on

Tuesday , when the guests included Bros , the Lord Mayor , and G . P . Goldney ( Remembrancer . ) Prince Albert Victor of Wales took up the freedom of the Mercers' Company , to which he is entitled by patrimony , on Monday evening , the freedom , which was handsomely engrossed on vellum and illuminated with the arms of the company , his Royal Highness , and the Master

and Wardens , being enclosed in a gold box . At the conclusion of the ceremony , dinner was served in the Hall , the Master of the Company occupying the chair , with the Prince on his right , and among the principal guests were the Duke of Cambridge , and Bros , the Duke of Manchester , Lord Suffield , Lord Ashbourne , and Major-General Sir C . Warren .

Our readers will deeply sympathise with Bro . F . P . Alliston in the terrible calamity which has befallen hi '> family circle . A few days since , his daughter , Miss Florence Alliston , who was staying at his house at Eastbourne , was engaged at her toilet , when a spirit lamp she

was using for heating curling irons upset and ignited her dress . The young lady in her fright rushed down stairs with her clothes on fire , and the servants succeeded in extinguishing the flames . But Miss Alliston's injuries were too serious , and she expired in great agony not long after the accident occurred .

At the quarterly meeting of the Dykes Conclave , No . 3 6 , at Whitehaven , on Friday , the 30 th ult ., Sir Knt . J . J . Robinson was elected Sovereign , and Sir Knt . Chas . Gowan , Viceroy , for the ensuing year .

Bro . George Millen , of 34 , Chaucer-road , Hernehill , Dulwich , member of the Domatic Lodge , No . 177 , died on the 28 th ult ., regretted by a large circle of friends , leaving behind him a widow and large family . Bro . the Lord Mayor , having attended the usual meeting of the Court of Common Council , on Thursday , at 1 p . m ., was to attend the same evening at the ball sriven at

the Cannon-street Hotel , in aid of the funds of the Metropolitan and City Police Orphanage . Bro . Sir E . Watkin , Bart ., M . P ., gave a dinner on the 28 th ult ., at the Cannon-street Hotel , to Chief Inspector Denning and the police of the Palace of Westminster . Bro . Sir C . Warren was unable to be present and sent a letter of regret at his inability to attend .

A sermon will be preached at the St . Katherine Cree Church , Leadenhall-street , on Sunday , the 9 th inst ., in aid of the Aldgate Ward Schools , in the presence of Bro . the Lord Mayor and the Lady Mayoress , and Bros . Alderman and Sheriff Evans and Sheriff Clarke .

The Crown Princess of Germany and Prussia ( Princess Royal of Great Britain and Ireland ) arrived at Windsor Castle , on Monday , on a visit to the Queen . Bro . Lord E . Pelham Clinton will be in attendance on her Imperial and Royal Highness during her stay in England .

Bro . the Lord Mayor and Lad y Mayoress entertained at dinner at the Mansion House on Monday evening a large number of guests representing the various Colonies of the British Empire . Bro . Sir Albert Woods ( Garter ) , G . D . of C , and Lady Woods were among those present . Bro . G . W . Knight , W . M . elect of the

Amongst the most striking contributions to the collection of sculpture in this year ' s Academy is a

Bro . the Marquis of Hartington , M . P ., was present and spoke at a great political meeting held in the Music Hall , Edinburgh , on the evening of Friday , the 30 th ult ., the chair being occupied by Bro . the Earl of Stair , while letters of apology for non-attendance were received from numbers of influential personages , including Bros , the Marquis of Breadalbane and B . THE GORDON MEMORIAL . —The Prince of Wales will preside at the inaugural festival of the Gordon Boys' Home , to be held at the Criterion tomorrow ( Saturday ) . The Management Committee have received a donation of £ 5000 for building , and plans have been prepared for the erection of brick huts . It is hoped to provide accommodation for 160 boys at an estimated cost of , fio , ooo .

Bro . the Lord Mayor paid a visit on Monday afternoon to the Church of Bartholomew the Great for the purpose of hearing two addresses , one by Dr . Norman Moore , Warden of St . Bartholomew ' s Hospital , on the history , and the other by Mr . Ashton Webb , on the Architecture of the Church . Bro . Leversidge and A . Brookman were of the congregation gathered on the occasion .

The Royal Commission for the Colonial and Indian Exhibition met in the Durbur Hall of the Indian Palace in the Exhibition on Monday , under the presidency of H . R . H . the Prince of Wales . Among the members of the Commission present were the Dukes of Connaught and

James's , on Monday , of the Colonial and Continental Church Society . Bros . Storey-Maskelyne , M . P ., and T . Eccleston Gibb , M . P ., were present at the annual festival dinner , held at the Cannon Street Hotel on Wednesday , of the United

Kingdom Railway Officers and Servants' Association . The subscriptions during the evening amounted to £ 1890 . H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , P . G . W ., occupied the chair at the anniversary festival held at the Hotel Metropole on Wednesday , of the Work Girls ' Protection § ociety , New Kent-road . The subscriptions , including £ 25 from his Royal Highness , exceeded £ 1000 .

We regret to learn that Bro . Geo . Millen , ofthe Domatic Lodge , No . 177 , died on Wednesday , 28 th ult ., at his residence , Chaucer-road , Brixton , leaving a widow and large family . He is deeply lamented by the members of bis lodge and a large circle of friends . The deceased was interred at Norwood Cemetery . Bro . Harris has invited the whole of the

No . 19 SC , will be held on Wednesday , the 12 th inst ., at the White Swan Hotel , Upper Norwood , S . E ., which will be the future home of the lodge . The hotel is close to the London Chatham and Dover Railway ( High Level ) Crystal Palace Station , and within a few minutes' walk of the London Brighton and South Coast Station . On this occasion the lodge will meet at 5 . 30 p . m .

Bro . Dr . B . W . Richardson presided at the annual festival held in memory of Shakespeare , at Anderton's Hotel , Fleet-street , on Friday , the 30 th ult ., by the Old Bohemian Urban Club . There was a good muster of guests , and Bro . Dr . Richardson ' s speech supporting the toast of " The Memory of Shakespeare" was a very eloquent one . The celebration should have taken place on

the 23 rd ult ., but as that happened to be Good Friday , it was postponed to the day specified . The Fifteen Sections were worked at the U pper Norwood Lodge of Instruction , No . 15 S 6 , on Monday , the 3 rd inst ., by Bro . Walter Martin , P . M . There was a large attendance of brethren , and a most enjoyable evening was spent . A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Bro .

Martin , who was unanimously elected an honorary member of the lodge . After the close of the lodge , the brethren sat down to an excellent supper , served by Bro . Jones . On Monday next , the 10 th inst ., the annual supper will be held , and the lodge adjourned until October . on both sides of the Atlantic . He is a constant contributor to thc Chicago Voice of Masonry , a high-class illustrated journal , and a number of journals in America and the Colonies , besides many of thc leading provincial papers at home . Bio . Emra Holmes some years since contributed a long series of articles to the Freemason on the United Orders of thc Temple and Hospital , and his tales and

lectures were published in the Masonic Magazine . B ., was one of the principal guests at the 53 rd anniversary festival of the Goldsmiths' Benevolent Institution , which took place at the Holborn Restaurant , on Tuesday evening , and resulted in subscriptions amounting to nearly £ 240 . Bro . Lambert ' s health was drunk as Treasurer of the Charity , and heartily responded to by him .

Bro . H . Windybank , past Chairman of thc Law and City Courts Committee of the Corporation , was presented on Tuesday evening with a handsome silver centrepiece in token of the estimation in which he is generally held and the services he had rendered to the City during the past year . and Wardens , being enclosed in a gold box . At the conclusion of the ceremony , dinner was served in the Hall , the Master of the Company occupying the chair , with the Prince on his right , and among the principal guests were the Duke of Cambridge , and Bros , the Duke of Manchester , Lord Suffield , Lord Ashbourne , and Major-General Sir C . Our readers will deeply sympathise with Bro . F . P . Alliston in the terrible calamity which has befallen hi '> family circle . A few days since , his daughter , Miss Florence Alliston , who was staying at his house at Eastbourne , was engaged at her toilet , when a spirit lamp she

was using for heating curling irons upset and ignited her dress . The young lady in her fright rushed down stairs with her clothes on fire , and the servants succeeded in extinguishing the flames . But Miss Alliston's injuries were too serious , and she expired in great agony not long after the accident occurred .
