The firm ' s chief trade is concerned with Masonry , and to

cope with the business they have branches at Liverpool , Manchester , and Glasgow , in addition to the headquarters , and the second London establishment in Great Queenstreet . The attendance this ytar was of an exceedingly representative character , amongst tho e present being his old friend ol 60 years ago , Mr . Fred Irwin , also Mr . Charles Arnold ,

about the only remaining citizen and veteran actor of the old stock days of the Bristol theatres ; Mr . Turner , the stage manager at the Prince ' s ; Messrs . Hamilton , Claxton , 1 Rechi , Heaven , with members of his family , and others . It is gratifying to hear that Bro . Maby lcoks better and younger than ever , and hearty wishes were expressed that a long-continued enjoyment of health and happiness may still be his lot . As is usual at these annual foregathcrings some excellent music , recitations , and interesting speeches contributed to a most enjoyable evening .

TO THE RELIEF OF KIMBERLEY .-This picture , painted by 12 . D . Gi ' es from sketches made in South Africa , is now on view at Thomas McLean ' s Art Gallery , 1 7 , Haymaiket . The picture graphically portrays the Cavalry Division , under G . neral French , galloping to the relief of Kimberley on February 15 th , 1900 . In the centre is General French ( distinguishable by the white helmet he always wore ) , followed by his staff , among whom may be seen , immediately behind him , Lord Edmund Talbot , on his left Major Haig , Major Lawrance , Col . Eustace , and Mr . Laycock . In white hat and

black coat is Mr . Wallers , who acted as guide to the force . On the left , faintly seen through the dust , are higher kopjes occupied by the Boer iillemen . The galloping squadrons of the Cavalry Division stretch right and left —immediately on the left are a squadron of the Household Cavalry , their bigblack

, horsts already showing signs of the wear and tear of the campaign . A cloud of dust and earth behind them shows where one of the enemy ' s shells has just fallen . In the foregiound a lance and haversack indicate that the 9 th and iGth Lancers , who preceded the rest oi the Division , have already passed ; while the wheel tracks across the front of the picture—and the unfired Pom-Pom shell—shows where the Boers haye spirited away one of their guns .

THE EARL OF WARWICK is , the Essex County Standard regrets to hear suffering from the effectsof a severe chill , and has cancelled all his public engagements for the present . Under medical advice his lordship will go abroad immediately on Ui 6 conclusion of the Warwickshire Yeomanry training , and will return in the third week in July to be present at the installation of H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught as M . W . G . M . and to preside at the Essex Provincial Masonic meeting . In consequence of the Eirl ' s absence from England the proposed visit of the Essex Freemasons and their lady friends to Warwick Castle , which had been fixed for the 29 th inst ., has been postponed till the 27 th prox .

THE KING AND " BARTS . "—The movement which has been inaugurated for placing in the great hall at St . Bartholomew ' s Hospital some permanent memDrial of the King ' s 34 years presidency of that great medical charity promises to be very sue . cessful . It has not yet been decided whether the memorial shall take the lorm of a portrait or of a bust of hi- Majesty , as much will depend upon the sum subscribed .

Each subscription has wisely been limited to five guineas . Sir Trevor Lawrence , Bart ,, is treasurer of the fund , and among the first subscribers are Bro . Alderman Alliston , Mr . Alderman Crosby , M . D . ; Sir Frederic A . Burrows , Bart ., Bro . the Rev . Sir Borradaile Savory , Bart ., Mr . George Baker , Mr . R . Grey , and Mr . J . R . Cooper , J . P . CLONFERT CATHEDRAL . —Canon McLarney , the public-spirited and energetic Rector of Clonfert , Co . Galway , who 10 years ago so courageously undertook the task of restoration of Clonfert Cathedral , is still appealing for the comparatively small sum £ 2000 necessary to complete the work . Clonfert Cathedral was founded in the year 558 , 39 years before the landing of Augustine in Kent . It is very small , and it possesses many features of architectural beauty . The 12 th century doorway , which excited the

admiration of Ruskin , would alone mark the building as unique . It is strange that we who pride ourselves on belonging to the ancient historic Church of the land should take so little interest in the preservation of such a venerable fane , the possession of which makes us the object of envy to others . The whole Church of Ireland is indebted to Canon McLarney for his enterprise and perseverance , and we trust his efforts may soon be rewarded with the full sum needed to complete the restoration of this small old Keltic church . —From the Church of Ireland Gazette .

The Institution possesses nearly £ 10 , 000 funded capital , with the income of which and subscriptions and donations annuities are granted to decayed Cumbrians and widows residen t in the metropolis , 30 of whom are now on the books , two having been elected at the annual election the previous Monday . Exclusive of all casual relief , education and clothing of children , and other charitable calls on tbe Institution , from the year 1812 to 1827 , there have been from the latter period 318 aged individuals relieved by the charity , at an expenditure of £ 33 , 401 up to 1920 .

BRO . SIR ARTHUR SULLIVAN MEMORIALS . —The committee have received considerable support towards the proposed memorials , the first of which is the monument in St . Paul ' s Cathedral , which will forthwith be placed in hand . As to the scholarship to which Sir Arthur ' s name is to be attached , there is every expectation that it will be sufficiently endowed to provide for the maintenance of the holder , and large though the sum required will be to accomplish this , the committee are hopeful ol successfully carrying it through if they receive the expected co-operation from the

public and musical world . As to the third object , which consists of a statue or bust 0 the late distinguished musician , to be placed in some prominent public position , the committee have determined on its execution only after miking provision fjr the scholarship . Morning performances in aid of the fund will be given at th ; Vaudeville to-morrow ( Saturday ) , the 8 th , and at the Savoy , on Wednesday , the 12 th instant . la addition to Lloyds Bank ( Law Courts Branch , 222 , Strand , W . C ) , Messrs . Chappell and Co ., 50 , New Bond-street , and Messrs . Novello , No . 1 , Berners-street , will gladly receive subscriptions .

In addition to most of the principal Grand Officers , invitations have been accepted by several prominent statesmen and Masons interested in the development of the Colonies , including : Bros . Sir M . Bhownagtrree ( India ) . Sir Andrew Clarke , K . C . M . G ..

Agent-General of Victoria ; the Lord Chancellor , Lord George H 1 n . il . 0 n , H . R . Hoylts , District Grand Secretary Bombay ; C . M . Mold , District Grand Master Argentina ; B . Marks , P . M . No . 1 Lodge , Grand Lodge of Victoria ; J . Richards , D . G . Master Transvaal ; A . M . Simpson , P . D . G . M . South Australia ; and Hon . Sir J . Smith , P . G . M . West Australia .
