Mark Grand Lodge.
The following brethren were nominated by the Grand Master to serve on the General Board : Bros . Abraham Woodiwiss , Prov . G . M . Derbyshire ; Charles Belton , P . G . W . ; ' Gordon Miller , P . G . O . ; John Strachan , K . C , P . G . O . ; Major Charles W . Carrell , P . G . O . ; and Col . Clifford Probyn , P . G . Treas .
The following brethren were elected to serve on the General Board : Bros . Richard Clowes , P . G . Overseer ; Frederick West , Dep . Prov . G . M . Surrey ; T . P . Dorman , Dep . Prov . G . M . North Hunts and Beds ; Alfred F . Church , P . G . Overseer ; and J . C Fitzroy Tower , P . A . G . D . C . The Earl of EUSTON said that , as soon as the date was known when it would be . convenient for the Duke of Connaught to be installed ^ the brethren would have notice . All honour must be done to his Royal Highness at the ceremony as he was one who deserved it .
G'and Lodge was then closed in ample form , and the brethren afterwards dintd together at the Freemasons' Tavern . The Earl of EUSTON , in proposing "The M . W . Grand Master , " said the Duke of Connaught was one who in any walk of life , and in whatever he had to do , whether as a military man or as the son of our late Queen , had always done it well . (
Bro . J STRACHAN , K . C , proposed " The M . W . Grand Master and Past Grand Masters , " of which there was a splendid roll . This led him up to the distinguished brother who held the office of Pro Grand Mas ' er , Lord Euston , whose heart was in Masonry , and who considered it no trouble to go anywhere so long as he could promote the good of the Order . He travelled hundreds of miles to consecrate lodges , and to investigate marks on ancient buildings which showed that Masons' history was net all tradition .
The Eail of EUSTON , in reply , said it was a great pleasure to him to go anywhere to do anything for the settlement of the Order . He certainly tried to do everything he could for the Mark Degree . The meeting that nig ht showed that the Mark Degree was growing . It was the largest Grand Festival he remembered . He was proud that the present Grand
Master had entrusted him with the office of Pro Grand Master , and he should perform his work without fear , favour , or affectation . He liked to see the work well done , whether in town or country . London was a power now , but he thought they would find in the provinces a great deal of good work . He hoped the brethren would give him the same support in the future that they had given him in the past .
Bro . C . LETCH MASON responded to the toast of " The Deputy Grand Master and the Grand Officers . " Bro . FRANK RICHARDSON , G . Reg ., proposed "The Mark Benevolent Fund , " and appealed to the brethren to support that Fund to the utmost on July ioth , when its festival would be held under the chairmanship of Lieut .-Col . Clifford Probyn , P . G . Tieasurer . He hoped it would exceed the record established by the Earl of Euston .
Bro . Lieut .-Col . CLIFFORD PROBYN , P . G . Treasurer , acknowledged the compliment , and spoke in high praise of the administration of the Mark Benevolent Fund , and of the great good it had been the means of effecting . If the ensuing festival produced only half of the record he should be a proud man indeed . Although knowing the great taxation there was upon people from the demands of Charity , he appealed to the Grand Officers who had been invested to do something for the Fund .
Bros . Sir J AMES BUCHANAN ( Scotland ) ,. AUCKINLECK ( Ireland ) , and MUIRHEAD ( South Afiica ) , replied to the toast of " The Visitors , " the last brother stating that du . ing the war in South Africa the Boer Mason showed he was in that particular a man and a brother . In no single instance
had any damage been done to Masonic property , and the Boers actually signed their names in the visitors' book . This redounded to the credit of Freemasonry . Bro . J . M . BASTONE , President of the Board of Grand Stewards , responded to the toast of "The Grand Stewards , " and his reply brought the evening to a close .
Provincial Grand Lodge And Provincial Grand Chapter Of Guernsey And Alderney.
PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE AND PROVINCIAL GRAND CHAPTER OF GUERNSEY AND ALDERNEY .
The Provincial Grand Lodge was held at five o clock . under the banner of the Fidelis Lodge , whose regular meeting was held on the 22 nd ult ., but through a dispensation was again held on the 29 . I 1 ult . in order that the Provincial Grand Lodge could meet under its banner .
To attend the proceedings several brethren had come down from Alderney ; these included Bros . N . Barbenson , T . P . Price , W . Baron , T . Robilliard , N . Gaudion , R . May , E . Livesey , and J . Gallichan . Almost every officer of the Provincial Grand Lodge was present . The visitors numbered about so , the total assemblage being between 80 and 90 .
Fidelis Lodge having been opened by Bro , E . T . Corbet in the usual manner , the members of the Prov . Gran J Lodge were received with the customary honours , when the Prov . Grand . Lodge was opened . The roll of lodges was then called , representatives from the following rising successively in answer to the call : Manners ' , 16 S ; Doyle ' s , 84 ; Loyalty , 243 ; St . Anne ' s ( Alderney ) , 593 ; Fidelis , 1 S 09 ; St . Sampson ' s , 2598 ; and Balfour-Cockburn , 2 S 05 .
The PROV . GRAND MASTER then gave a lengthy but most interesting address , which was listened to with the deepest attention . In this he touchingly alluded to the heavy blow which had fallen on the nation through the death of Queen Victoria , the Lady Patroness of the Masonic Benevolent Institutions , and of the Masonic requiem service in respect to the Oueen's memory which was held at St . Stephen ' s Church on February 2 nd
last . The speaker regretted that the members on that occasion were unable through the unpropitious state of the weather to form a procession and place the lodge wreath at the loot of the Oueen ' e statue at Candie Grounds . The Prov . G . Master then passed on to the Charities , and showed the brethren the great number of votes which they possessed in sufficient numbers to get in any candidate into a Masonic Institution or obtain a life pension for a distressed brother or deceased brother ' s wife at
the second application . At the present day the votes the Guernsey brethren possessed were frittered away here , and frittered away there . He mentioned one Guernsey candidate who was suffering through this frittering of votes . Two applications already had been made and both were unsuccessful . Perhaps he would again be unsuccessful at the third and even the fourth application . The Prov . G . Master also spoke of the Charity Votes Association . Votes obtained through this Association would be of incalculable value to the brethren . He also touched upon many other

subjects which were thoroughly appreciated by his hearers . Without doubt the Prov . Grand Master ' s earnest and eloquent address made a deep impression , and will bear good fruit in the future . The address concluded amid a genuine outburst of applause . After a few preliminary remarks , the JP ROV . G . MASTER moved the following resolution , which was seconded by Bro . E . C OZANNE , Dep . Prov . G . Master :
" That this Provincial Grand Lodge and Grand Chapter do place on record their respectful and profound grief at the universally lamented demise of Her late Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria , Empress of India , and for many years Patroness of the Craft , whose memory will ever remain embalmed in the hearts of all her faithful subjects , and do desire to record their heartfelt and most respectful sympathy with their former Most
Worshipful Grand Master , His Majesty King Edward the Seventh , the Royal Protector of the Fraternity . "They further desire to record their dutiful and loyal congratulations to His Majesty upon his accession to the throne , and beg to express the fervent hope that by the Mercy of the Great Architect of the Universe he may long be spared to reign over his vast Empire , and remain the Protector of English Freemasons . "
This was put to the meeting by Bro . E . CORHET , and carried by acclamation .
The following resolution , moved by Bro . E . K . CORBIN , and seconded by Bro . R . M . SMYTHSON before his present serious illness , was also unanimously adopted : " That the members of this Provincial Grand Lodge do place on record their great regret at the loss that Freemasonry in the province has sustained by the sudden death of Bros . R . H . Randall , P . M . and P . Z . 84 , P . P . G . W ., and T . Pengelley , P . M . and Treasurer 168 , P . Z . 243 , and that a vote of condolence and sympathy be forwarded to their bereaved relatives . "
The Auditors' report was then read , and showed that ' the Prov . Grand Lodge ' s financial position was exceedingly good , there remaining a balance in hand of about £ ¦ $ , Bro . J . T . Laine was again unanimously elected Provincial Grand Treasurer .
Bros . H . S . Hatherell and G . A . Eastland were elected Auditors of this year ' s accounts . The sum of 10 guineas was then voted to be added to the list of Bro . G . F . Peek , P . G . S . of Wks ., who will represent this province as a Steward
at the forthcoming Festival of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . Bro . Peek will take up about 110 guineas with him for this Festival .
