Boys' School Athletic Sports.

Delahaye was second in the loo yards ' , and third in the 300 yards' handicaps for boys under 13 ; second in the 220 yards' open handicap ; and was returned winner of the 1000 yards' open handicap , covering the distance , less his start of , S 7 . 1 yards , in the very creditable time for one so young of 2 min . 5 S 45 sec . We have received the following magazines for June in addition to thosj reviewed last week . The Argosy contains three very interesting chapten of the serial " Malicious Fortune , " and the complete tales , " The Gooseberry and the Goblin , " "The Creel Breaker , " " Bot Banham ' s Last Crossing , " " John P . Kelly ' s Daughter , " and a first of a series of Hospital Yarns , entitled "The Mother . "

Travellers who have visited Italy will appreciate the sketch entitled " A Ligurian Impression , " and lovers of flowers the paper on " Wild Musk . " " The Value of a Penny in 16 95 " is quaint and instructive , as also is " Old English Rustic Psalmody , " which cannot fail to amuse readers of this magazine , more particularly such of them as are members of church choirs . There is an artistic frontispiece to the current number , and the short poems published have been selected with taste .

The Captain has an unusually good selection of high-class fiction and other reading matter suitable for boys . The serials , "Smith ' s House , " "Tales of the Trenches , " " Sir Billy , " and " The Wolf-Boy , " are continued , and there are also the following complete tales : " The Bite of the Malmignato , " " A man ' s life must pay , " and " The Ingenuity of Brindle . " Special attention is paid to the hobbies of stamp collectors , cyclists , & c , while the article " When I leave school , " gives some very useful hints as to the openings in life that offer themselves to boys who have just left school .

The Gentleman ' s Magazine contains the complete tales "A Suspected Lodger , " by J . W . Sherer , C . S . I ., and " The Romance of The Thatmaiyo Bridge , " by Harold Bindloss . The Hon . J . A . Sinclair has a lengthy but most interesting biographical sketch of " A Forgotten English Worthy , " viz ., John , Lord Cutts , soldier and poet , who did his country good service in Ireland and the Low Countries under William III . Naturalists will be interested in a paper

on " Fish Lore , " and antiquarians in one on " Tutbury and its Associations . " An admiiable biographical sketch of Hugh Elliot , the soldier-diplomatist of the reign of George III ., is only equalled in interest by the article entitled " In the Land of Hereward , " which will be found irresistibly charming by dwellers in the Fen country and students of history generally . The number concludes with a further paper on folk-rhymes , more particularly river-rhymes , prayer-rhymes , and folk-prayers .

The Strand Magazine is as excellent a number as ever this moith . Mr . H . G . Wells continues his story , " The First Men in the Moon , " and the opening chapters are published of a new series entitled " At Sunwich Port , " by W . W . Jacobs . Admirers of Bret Harte will note the complete tale by that author , "A Buckeye Hollow Inheritance . " Ofher stories complete in this num . " ber are " The Schoolmaster of Ruby Creek , " " Blarney , " " Saline ' s Cro ss

Order , " and "The Sun Princess , " a story for children . Of the numerous interesting papers which supplement the stories , special mention may be made of " Curious incidents at Cricket , " the account [ of an interview with Conan Doyle , entitled " A British Commando ; " " Japanese Botany ; " " Some Wonders from the West ; " " From behind the Speaker ' s Chair , " by H . W . Lucy ; and "The Silent Sisters of Angle ., " from the pen of Sir George Newnes himself . The number is profusely illustrated .

The Sunday Strand publishes a further instalment of the serial " Tregarthen , " and of the children ' s serial " Aldine ' s Adventures in the Doll ' s World , " as well as several excellent complete stories . " Voices out of the Past " relate the story of Moses in the language of modern romance , and " Our First Martyr" is an interesting account of the life and death of the Rev . O . F .

Tomkins , missionary in New Guinea , representing the members of "The Sunday Strand Missionary Band , " who was killed by the natives in April last . Dean Hole , of Rochester , is the subject treated in the present paper of the series " Great Preachers . " There are several other interesting papers , all of which are " very artistically illustrated .

The Wide World Magazine publishes a varied miscellany of stories of travel and adventure from all parts of the world . The opening chapters of " The Story of the Brothers Degrave , " which almost rivals the Dreyfus incident in tragic interest , are followed by the continuation of Conan Doyle ' s " Great

Boer War , " Major Gibbons' " Record Journey in Savage Africa , " and complete tales and sketches of which special mention may be made of " Men who have been Attacked by Lions , " Miss Lee ' s experiences as a lady missionary in China , and , "How Mademoiselle Dodu Saved the Army , " an episode of the Franco-Prussian War .

The Windsor Magazine is certain to enrol a large number of new subscribers this month . In the first place the many admirers of Cutcliffe Hyne will note the commencement of a new story by the pen of the creator of Captain Kettle , entitled " Thompson ' s Progress . " Then another new and apparently very exciting serial entitled " The Heart ot a Mystery , " by L . T . Meade and Robert Eustace , is commented in this number . " The Bailie ' s Double " by Ian Mac Laren , " Early Morning at Brown ' s , " and " Caught at the Wicket , " are interest . '

ing complete stories . The article on Mr . G . F . Watts and his art , is beautifully illustrated , in fact the illustrations throughout are as artistic as they are profuse . Especially is this the case in the papers on " The Anglo-French Question in Newfoundland , " "The English Switzerland , " which is , of course , the Lake district , " Underground Paris , " and " At the Sign of the Porcelain Bottle . " Barry Pain contributes another of his humorous series of " City Chronicles , " and cyclists will find something to interest them in the account of Major Baden-Powell ' s collapsible bicycle .

W . Lucy ; and "The Silent Sisters of Angle ., " from the pen of Sir George Newnes himself . The number is profusely illustrated .

The Sunday Strand publishes a further instalment of the serial " Tregarthen , " and of the children ' s serial " Aldine ' s Adventures in the Doll ' s World , " as well as several excellent complete stories . " Voices out of the Past " relate the story of Moses in the language of modern romance , and " Our First Martyr" is an interesting account of the life and death of the Rev . O . F .

Tomkins , missionary in New Guinea , representing the members of "The Sunday Strand Missionary Band , " who was killed by the natives in April last . Dean Hole , of Rochester , is the subject treated in the present paper of the series " Great Preachers . " There are several other interesting papers , all of which are " very artistically illustrated .

The Wide World Magazine publishes a varied miscellany of stories of travel and adventure from all parts of the world . The opening chapters of " The Story of the Brothers Degrave , " which almost rivals the Dreyfus incident in tragic interest , are followed by the continuation of Conan Doyle ' s " Great

The Windsor Magazine is certain to enrol a large number of new subscribers this month . In the first place the many admirers of Cutcliffe Hyne will note the commencement of a new story by the pen of the creator of Captain Kettle , entitled " Thompson ' s Progress . " Then another new and apparently very exciting serial entitled " The Heart ot a Mystery , " by L . T . Meade and Robert Eustace , is commented in this number . " The Bailie ' s Double " by Ian Mac Laren , " Early Morning at Brown ' s , " and " Caught at the Wicket , " are interest . '
