ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR BOYS .

The monthly meeting of thc Council was held on Friday , the 30 th ult ., at Freemasons' Hall , Bro . Richard Eve , Patron and Trustee , in the chair . Amongst those in attendance were Bros . Everett , Le Feuvre , A . J . Thomas , Campbell Johnstone * , W . H . Kempster , M . D ., Tlios . Taylor ( Staffs ) , H . A . Tobias , | . \ V . Burgess , R . D . Cummings , R . Manuel , G . M . E . Hamilton , E . Hobbs , W . Rule , H . L . Davis , George Chapman , and J . M . McLeod ,

Secretary . On the Report of the Petitions Committee 24 new cases were accepted , and the list for the October election was closed at 36 cases for 13 vacancies . The SECRETARY mentioned that it was probable two of the cases would be withdrawn to fill vacant presentations , leaving 34 casts to proceed to election .

Tbe repert of tbe result oi the 101 st Anniversary Festival was j received , and a hearty vote of thanks accorded to the Treasurer of the Institution , Bro . Charles E . Keyser , for his able and generous presidency . An interesting autograph letter of the late Duke of Sussex , P . M . W . G . M ., President of the Institution , was presented by Bro . Trehawke Davies , of the Drury Lane Lodge , and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to him for same . The letter is as follows : " Gentlemen ,

" In acknowledging the receipt of certain resolutions passed at your late meeting , and which have been forwarded to me by your direction , and concurring with you in the regret expressed on that occasion as to the retirement of Bro . Moore from the office of Treasurer , which lie has filled for so many years with equal credit to himself and advantage to the Charity , I have to observe that the post of Treasurer is elective , and therefore it

becomes the duty of the supporters of the Institution , in virtue of such right , to exercise that power , while it behoves me only to suggest the name of an individual whom I conceive may be a fit and proper person to discharge the duties of that ofiice ; under this impression 1 venture to propose the name of the W . Brother the Rev . Mr . Rodber as one fully qualified for the purpose .

ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS .

Following what has become an agreeable and acceptable annual custom , those distinguished brethren , the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs of London , on Monday afternoon paid a visit in full state to this noble Institution . The weather , fortunately , proved fine , and the scene as the gay cavalcade , preceded by police outriders , swept through the great gates and round the drive , to be there received with admiring acclamation by the little blue and

white clad lasses assembled on the lawn , was one to be remembered . Splendidly rendered performances of callisthenics , music , and singing delig hted the visitors , who were then conducted over the School and the charming grounds by Bro . Robert Grey , the acting Chairman , and Miss Buck and Miss Redgrave , the Matron and Head Governess , several members of the House Committee and Bro . Hedges , the Secretary , being also in attendance .

Before leaving the hall , the LORD MAYOR expressed in glowing terms the great pleasure he and his daughter , the Lady Mayoress , had derived from their visit , sentiments in whicii the Sheriffs and their ladies heartily concurred . His lordship spoke most highly of the system of education that bad produced such excellent results as they had heard and witnessed , and

gave the children kindly and good advice both as to their present work and their future lives . In conclusion , he invite J the elder portion of the School to pay a visit to the Mansion House , where he and the Lady Mayoress would be delig hted to receive them after the holidays . The National Anthem concluded the interesting proceedings . The School holidays commence on thc 6 th instant .

Summer Outing Of The Regent's Park Lodge, No. 2202.

SUMMER OUTING OF THE REGENT'S PARK LODGE , No . 2202 .

On Thursday , the 29 th ult ., the brethren , their wives and friends , left Paddington by the 9 a . m . train to Reading , saloon carriages having been previously engaged to add to the comfort and sociability of travelling . The full muster was between 70 and 80 . On arrival at Reading , a steam launch was in readiness to take the party to Great Marlow . An excellent lunch was provided on board during the trip , and some very good music was given , and by the ladies in paiticular .

On arrival at Great Marlow about two o ' clock , lliey made their way to the Crown Hotel , where a splendid dinner was provided , after which Bro . WILSON , W . M ., piopotcd " The Health of the Queen and Royal Family , " which was duly responded lo . "' The WoKsmi'i'UL MASTER next proposed thc loast of "The Ladies and Visitors . "

Mrs . J OSEPH BANGS responded on behalf of the ladies in a very able speech . Returning to the launch about 5 o ' clock , the boat ran down the river as far as Windsor , where saloon carriages again awaited the party and took them back to Paddington .

Much praise is due to the Stwards , Bros . J . Bangs , T . Bowles , C . H . Farrin , H . Fear , F . E . Osborne , J . Taylor , J . " Wilkins , and the Secretary , W . J . Reynolds , for the admirable manner in whicii the arrangements were carried out . The weather being splendid , completed a very happy day .

confirmed , i he ballot having proved unanimous in favour of Bro . Edward Mark Jones , he was admitted to the intermediate Degrees , and perfected as a Prince Rose Croix ! The M . W . S ., for the efficient manner in which he had discharged the duties of Sovereign during his year of ollice and for the able way in which he installed his successor in the chair . Bro . Molony thanked the members for their kind resolution and for thc handsome jewel with which they had presented him . He hoped that at the future would not have

meetings they to work under such great disadvantages as on the present occasion , and complimented the M . VV . S . on having selected such zealous Masons as Bros . Smyth , Humphries , and Duffy to fill the junior but very important offices of Marshal , Raphael , and Captain of the Guard respectively . Some other business having being disposed of , the chapter was closed . The brethren subseijuently dined together .

BRO . THOMAS BARNES , P . M ., P . Z ., 33 ' . The death of Liru . Thomas Barnes occurred soiiicwhit suddenl y at his rcsi deuce , Hculhcrclille , Walton Park , Clcvcdon , on Saturday afternoon last , at the age uf 86 . Liro . Barnes was appointed manager of Messrs . Stuckcy ' s Banking Company , Clcvcdon Branch , when il was opened in 18 7 . ) ( having been in the company ' s service since 1 . S 42 ) , which appointment he held until March , 18 S 4 , when , through advancing years , he retired , much regret being felt at this decision . He was a prominent member of our Order , which he joined in 1838 , having taken

the yy , and being a member of ths Grand I . odge of England , . 1 P . P . G . W . of the Province u' Somerset , P . M . of the Clevedon Coleridge Lodge , NJ . 1750 , of which he was Hon . Secretary and Treasurer , and which he was largely instrumental in founding , a P . / .. of the Adair Chapter , Clevedon , a member of the Knights Templar , kc . He was , 1 director for many years of the Clevedon Gas Co up in / , a churchwarden of St . Mary ' s Walton Park for 17 years , and took a great intereit in the maintenance of that church , at which touching references were made on Sunday to his death .

Thomas Barnes occurred soiiicwhit suddenl y at his rcsi deuce , Hculhcrclille , Walton Park , Clcvcdon , on Saturday afternoon last , at the age uf 86 . Liro . Barnes was appointed manager of Messrs . Stuckcy ' s Banking Company , Clcvcdon Branch , when il was opened in 18 7 . ) ( having been in the company ' s service since 1 . S 42 ) , which appointment he held until March , 18 S 4 , when , through advancing years , he retired , much regret being felt at this decision .
