The W . M ., in reply , said that notwithstanding he had passed the chair elsewhere , his great ambition and desire had been to reach the chair of his mother lodge , the Wolsey . Thanks to the kindness of the brethren that honour had been conferred upon him that day . Although residing abroad it was his intention to visit England , and attend as many meetings of the lodge as possible . He then submitted the toast of ¦ 'The Initiates , " and in the course of his remarks he said that he felt confident that both must have been impressed by the able manner in which they had been initiated by Bro . Peat .

The initiates having briefly replied , " The Health of the I . P . M . and Installing Officer" followed . The W . M ., in giving this toast , said that Bro . Flack ' s merits as a Mason was so well known to all present that no words of his were necessary to enhance the toast . The I . P . M . had had a very heavy year of office and he had discharged all the duties in a . very efficient manner . Personally , he had been greatly impressed with the manner in

which Bro . Flack had inducted him into the chair that evening . The I . P . M . having modestly expressed his acknowledgments , The toasts of " The Past Masters , " and ' * Treasurer and Secretary , " came next in order , and was acknowledged by Bros . H . J . Bond , R . W . Rice , R . W . Simpson , and J . Featherstone . Bros . Ross and Jehu having replied on behalf of "The Officers , " the highly successful proceedings terminated .

During the intervals an excellent programme of music was presented under the direction of Bro . Frank Figg . The W . M . is to be congratulated upon the admirable manner in which the banquet and subsequent proceedings passed off .

The meeting closed with many congratulations to the newly-installed W . M ., both from visitors present and friends absent . A huge pile of letters and telegrams from all parts of the country bore eloquent testimony to the widespread respect and friendship with which Bro . Wilson is regarded by all who have the pleasure of knowing him . The annual banquet was elegantly served in Plymouth Masonic Club to a company

numbering 160 members of the lodge and guests , under the chairmanship of Bro Wilson . In addition to the names already given , Bros . F . C . Huxham , P . M . 954 ; Major J Rendle , V . D ., P . P . Lodgeof Devon " was proposed by Bro . A . B . Pilling ,

S . W . Bros . G . Dunsterville and J . R . Lord acknowledged the toast . Bro . Hedge , J . W ., proposed "The P . G . M . and P . G . Lodge of Cornwall , " which was , as is ever the case in Devonshire Masonic circles , most warmly received . Bro . 1 . White . P . G . Std . Br . Cornwall , responded .

"The W . M . " was proposed by Bro . Capt . J . O . W . Quinn , R . N ., who paid a glowing tribute to the worth of Bro . J . R . Wilson as a man and a Mason ; and referred in eloquent words to the great work tie _ has recently done and is still doing " unknown to most of us , but none the less at considerable toil and trouble to himself , " in working up a revived interest in the great London charities . The toast was received with loud cheering , and again and again repeated .

Bro . Wilson , W . M ., in a feeling speech , thanked one and all for the great consideration , friendship , and kindness so fully expressed towards him , and assured his hearers of his great desire and determination to follow the great example of his predecessors in the chair of 954 , and do all in his power to enhance the honour , good repute , and usefulnees of the lodge during his year of office . Bro . Maior Rendle , in a loudly-applauded speech , responded for " The Visitors , " and Bro . J . B . Gover for "The Masonic Charities , " proposed by Bro . Rev . A . J . Hamlyn , P . P . G . C .

With the singing of the National Anthem an evening of most pleasurable good fellowship and enjoyment ended . A choice selection of vocal and instrumental music rendered by Bros . Albert Victor Lodge , No . 2328 . A rather interesting meeting of this lodge took place at York , on the 27 th ultimo , when Bro . T . B . Whytehead initiated his third son ( Hugh Whytehead ) into Freemasonry at the age of iS , by dispensation from the M . W . G . M . TheW . M . ( Bro . Capt . Lindberg ) was unable to be present , being out with his regiment on military training , so the chair was taken by Bro . Whytehead , who was supported by the I . P . M .,

Bro . J . Melrose , P . J . G . W . ; Bro . Canon Watson , of York ; and the W . Ms , of the York Lodge , 236 ; the Eboracum Lodge , 1611 ; and the Agricola Lodge , 1991 , who all took part in the ceremony . Bro . Whytehead has shown practically the value he sets on Masonry . He initiated his eldest son on his 21 st birthday , his second son soon after his attaining his majority , and now his third son ( who expects shortly to leave for South Africa ) in his 19 th year . "

The members and their visitors dined after the meeting at the White Swan Hotel ( a very old Masonic house , by the way ) , when the usual toasts were honoured , and a very pleasant evening was passed , all clearing out at 10 . 30 . The Albert Victor is an early closing lodge .

Williams , Ball , P . Wright , Carlton , Smale , and others greatly increased the pleasures of a meeting which will long be remembered by all who had the good forture to participate in it .
