The brethren having partaken of an excellent banquet , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . Bro . J . F . H . Woodward , P . G . Swd . Br ., replied for
" The Grand Officers , " and said that as he was a very young Grand Officer , and as the present meeting was the first occasion on which he had been called upon to respond , the brethren would excuse him saying anything except to thank them for the kind manner in which they had received the toast . He thought that among the different bodies and societies in which their country was divided , there was
no body of men who stood higher in the estimation of the public than the Grand Officers . He might safely say , although he was a member of that body , that they reflected the very highest credit on Masons , by whom they were respected and esteemed . The Worshipful Master then gave "The Prov . G . M ., Bro . Col . Sir Francis Burdett , Bart ., and the rest of the
Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and expressed his regret at the absence of Sir Francis , who was prevented from attending by one of his numerous engagements They were sure , however , that the sympathy ot the Prov . G . VI , was with them as it was with every lodge in the province . Bro . J . F . H . Woodward , Prov . G . Sec . Middx ., in
response , said he rose , more in his own element than as a Grand Ufficer , to return thanks for this toast . He was sure that their Prov . Grand Master would have been very pleased to be with them , but he was now in Wiltshire , and was , he was happy to say , in good health . On his behalf he had the pleasure to announce to them the names of the
Prov . Grand Officers he had been pleased to appoint in connection with the Jubilee . As they were aware there are 39 lodges in the province , and he was , therefore , entitled to conrer P . P . G . rank on ten brethren . I ' he Prov . Grand Master had appointed , after very careful selection , ten brethien who would meet with the approval of all , and in that selection he had confined himself to P . M . 's who had
not held office in the Provincial Grand Lodge . 1 here were several brethren who thought that certain Prov . Grand Ollicers should be promoted , but Sir Francis had set his face against promotions , and with the increasing number who could not obtain provincial rank , he was quite determined to confer Past rank only on those who had not yet received honours . The following was a complete list of

they had had an earnest of good work to come , in the clear and concise manner in which the VV . M . had invested his officers . The W . M . was full of energy and zeal , and would doubtless show the brethren , on the first occasion , his proficiency in the ritual . It was a good omen for the future continued prosperiiy of the lodge . On behalf ot the Prov . Grand Officers , he thanked them for ths
reception given to the toast . Bro . E . Clark , P . P . G . Supt . of Wks ., also replied . " The Health of the Worshipful Master" was next given by Bro . Monson , l . P . M ., who said that the brethren had heard from Bro . Woodward his opinion of their W . M ., and those remarks were thoroughly endorsed by them all . He was pleased that Bro Adams had attained the dignity
of the chair , and was convinced he would make a good VV . M . He hoped their VV . M . would have plenty of work , for he knew the ceremonies would be worked in a splendid manner . They all wished him health and strength to carry out his duties , and a happy and successful year of office . Bro . J . Adams , VV . M ., thanked the brethren for the kind manner in which they had received his toast . It was
a great satisfaction to him to be placed in tne present position , for he had been 13 years in the lodge , and had looked forward to the time when he shonld preside over them . He knew the work would be made easy by his officers , who were able and willing . He again thanked them , and hoped they would have a good year together . The Worshipful M astir , in proposing " Ihe Installing
Master and Past Masters , " said it was a matter of satisfaction to him ihat the installing ceremony was performed by the I . P . M ., who had performed the duties in a kindly and able manner . There were seven P . M . 's of the lodge present , and it was many years since so many had met [ here . He was pleased to see Bro . Clark present , for he was an old P . M . and the father of the lodge . Bro . Monson , l . P . M ., in response , said the time had
passed so quickly that he hardly felt he had occupied the chair 12 months . He had done all for the best , and was glad if he had given satisfaction . He sincerely thanked tnem for the handsome collar and jewel , and especially for the special bar on the latter , which marked the Jubilee year . He was pleased that the VV . M . would have the assistance during his year of their Secretary , Bro . Dodd , with whom he had worked for many years , and whom he knew to be a hard and zealous worker . That brother had
many duties to perform , but fulfilled them to the satisfaction of all , and he was proud to know that his services had been recognised by the Prov . G . M . Bro . Clark , P . P . G . Supt . of Wks ., as a P . M . of 21 years ' standing and the first W . M : of the lodge , returned thanks for the manner in which the toast had been given and received .
Bro . Wm . Dodd , P . P . G . D ., Secretary , also replied , and thanked the VV . M . and brethren from the bottom of his heart tor the kind remarks made respecting him , and for tne honours bestowed upon him . He had certainly waited long ; but they would be more highly appreciated by him in consequence . He hoped he would be spared for many years to aopreciate them , and to see many members of
their lodge obtain similar distinctions . He sincerely thanked Bro . Woodward for investing him with the collar , for it was a unique thing to be invested with provincial honours in his own lodge . He thanked that brother for having paid him that honour , and the Prov . G . M . for having selected him . " I ' he Visitors" was next given bv the Worshipful
Master , who heartily welcomed the visiting brethren , and expressed the pleasure it afforded the members to receive them . Bro . Belts , VV . M . 1351 , on behalf of the visitors , returned thanks for the cordial reception extended to them . He had visited them to receive instruction , and had not been disappointed , but had also derived considerable enjoyment from his visit .
Bros . Tijou , l . P . M . 1 S 04 , and Andrews , P . M . 77 , also returned thanks . Bro . P . Monson , S . W ., having replied for "The Officers " in appropriate terms , the Tyler ' s toast closed a successful meeting . The musical anangements , which added considerably to the enjoyment of all present , were under the able direction of Bro . Sugg , P . P . G . O . Surrey .

In responding for " i ' he P . P . G . Officers , " Bro . Dodd said it was a source of great gratification to him , and he
thought it should be to the lodge also , that all the Past Masters who took an active part in keeping the Amherst Lodge alive when there was but the barest spark of vitality left in it , were now wearers of the purple , conferred upon them in their own province , viz ., Bros . Jewell , Durntnell , Duret , and himself .
Bro . Jewell , P . M ., the "father" of the lodge , in which he was initiated in 1 S 6 S , and has been Secretary since 1874 , gave " I'he Health of the Acting VV . M ., " and remarked that Bro . always shown him , and particularly by the Past Masters , who had done so much for the lodge . " " The Health of the Officers " was given from the chair , and in response , Bro . Sparrowhawk , S . W ., said that though not fit to be out that day owing to indisposition , his love for the Amherst Lodge and its members was so great that while he could put one leg before the other he would attend
and perform his duties . I'he presence of visitors was , ' also taken notice of , and then the W . M . gave a few words of a valedictory nature , the next meeting being in April . He referred to the excellent way in which liro . Waller , the host , had looked after their wants , and their comforts as well , and in
very kindly terms proposed his health , with an expression of the hope that next time they might meet in a new and more commodious room . Bro . " Hearty good wishes" were given , and the lodge was closed , after which the Eboracums entertained their visitors at supper , and a
