business before the lodge was to elect the W . M . and Treasurer for the ensuing year and pass Bros . Milligan and Field . On the ballot being taken , Bro . 'Ihos . Glessal was re-elected Master , and Bro . John Spittall , Treasurer . This is the first timein the history of the Lewis Lodge that a Master has been elected to fill the chair two years m succession ;

but the prosperity that has attended Bro . Glessal s past year of office fully warrants a repetition of the trust reposed in him . The senior Past Master of the lodge , Bro . Morton , afterwards delivered a very able lecture on the Second Decree . A vote of thanks was passed to Bro . Morton , and the ' lodge was closed in form and good harmony .

LIVERPOOL . —Dramatic Lodge ( No . 1609 ) . — The ordinary monthly meeting of the members of this lodge was held on Tuesday afternoon , the 27 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street . Owing to the sudden and severe indisposition of a near relative , Bro . J . L . Shrapnell , W . M ., was unavoidably prevented from being present , and his lace was taken at short notice by Bro . Harries for a similar mark of sympathy from the members of the Dramatic in view of the recent death of their brother , who , like Bro . Gough , was a much respected member of the lodVe . After other secretarial communications had been

read and "Hearty good wishes" were tendered from representatives of the Asaph and other lodges , the business proceedings were brought to a close . An excellent dinner was served in the banqueting-room by Bro . Vines , of the Canton Hotel , to which about fifty members and visitors sat down . Miles Settle , who recently had a narrow escape from an untimely death by reason of an accident which occurred at the colliery at which he is the managing partner in Staffordshire , received the hearty congratulations of the brethren on his return home and to his lodge , and deep

sympathy was expressed for his sufferings during the illness which ensued therefrom . It was announced that the W . M ., the S . W ., and the J . W ., with Bro . Heywood , P . M ., had agreed to serve as Stewards at the forthcoming festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . A circular was read from the Prov . Grand Secretary requesting the

attendance of the duly qualified brethren at the Grand Lodge meeting on the 5 th inst . Bro . Matthew Fielding , formerly of Affability Lodge , Manchester , was elected as a joining member , and " Hearty good wishes " having been expressed by the visiting brethren the lodge was closed in peace and harmony .

LIVERPOOL . —Kirkdale Lodge ( No . 1756 ) . — The most largely attended and prominently influential meeting which was ever held in connection with the above lod ^ e took place on the 27 th ult , at Skelmersdale Hall , Westminster-road , Kirkdale . Upwards ot 100 members and visitors were present on the occasion , the celebration of the festival of St . John , and amongst the visitors were a large representation of the leaders of the Craft in

this district . 'The gathering clearly proved the vitality of the Craft at the north end of the city , thanks to the care and Masonic zeal shown by those who have chrage of the Kirkdale . After the cloth had been removed , Bro . Buttery , S . W ., took the chair , and the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given and heartily responded to . The brethren separated after a most enjoyable evening , both as regards work and recreation .

INSTRUCTION .

BURGOYNE LODGE ( No . 902 ) . — The Burgoyne Lodge of Instruction having resolved to remove their place of meeting from the Cock Tavern , Ludgate-hill , to Bro . F . A . Austin ' s , the Victoria Hotel , 25 , Charterhouse-street , Farringdon-road , held their first meeting at the latter place on Wednesday last , at 7 p . m ., when the installation ceremony was worked by Bro . R . N . Field , P . M . of the mother lodge , to the entire satisfaction of the lodge . Tnere was a numerous attendance of the

members and a fair muster of visitors . Bro . Frost , P . M ., & c , was elected Preceptor . From the known capabilities of Bro . Frost and several of the brethren we doubt not that the removal to this new abode , where an excellent and suitable room is provided , will be of great advantage to the lodge . Much of the work in connection with the removal has been performed by the very able and energetic Secretary , Bro . Batty , J . W . of the mother lodge , whose services the lodge are fortunate in the possession of .

Instruction.

HIGHGATE LODGE ( No . 13 S 6 ) . —On Thurs . day , the 29 th ult ., Bro . James Stevens , P . M ., P . Z ., gave his interesting lecture on the ceremonial of the First Degree in Freemasonry to the members of this lodge and a large gathering of influential brethren connected with neighbouring lodges , at the Boston Hotel , Junction-road , Kentish Town . Bro . Dettmer , of the Sir Hugh Myddelton

Lodge , opened the lodge at 7 30 p . m . Amongst the numerous assembly on this occasion were Bros . James Terry , P . M ., Secretary Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution ; Frost , P . M ., Preceptor 136 O ; Payne , P . M . ; Lambert , P . M . ; and many other prominent members of the Craft . The minutes of the previous meeting having been

confirmed the W . M . introduced Bro , Stevens with a few appropriate observations . For rather more than two hours , during which period the most earnest attention was given to his remarks , the worthy lecturer expounded most eloquently the various points of interest contained in the working of the First Degree . VViih but few exceptions , and those only in respect of least important divergencies ,

his conclusions met with ready acceptances , and it was generally agreed that a more perfect and instructive elucidation of the text of the ritual could not be otherwise obtained . At the conclusion of the lecture , VV . Bro . Frost , P . M ., proposed a cordial vote of thanks to Bro . Stevens , whom he was glad to know was associated with the lodge as an hon .

member , and expressed his gratification with the interesting address he had listened to . This was seconded by W . Bro . James Terry , P . M ., who , whilst taking exception to some few of the opinions of the lecturer , desired , nevertheless , to express his sense of the important services rendered to the Craft generally by the repetition of his work in the several lodges and lodges of instruction .

The vote having been unanimously agreed to , Bro . Stevens in reply expressed his acknowledgments , thanking the brethren for their very patient attention , and stating his readiness to accept any invite he might receive from other lodges of instruction desirous of hearing the lecture . Several new members having been elected the lodge was closed . This lodge meets every Thursday evening at the Boston Hotel , at eight o'clock .

of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . The lodge was called off , and the brethren were instructed by Bro . Stevens in entry drill . Lodsje was called on and opened in the Second Degree . The ceremony of parsing was rehearsed , Bro . Hardy as candidate . The Lecture on the Second Tracing Board preceded by the delivery of the Second Section , was given by Bro . Stevens .

The lodge was opened in the Third Degree , and then closed down to the First . Bro . Barnett was elected a member . Bro . Lawrence was elected W . M . for the ensuing week . A cordial vote of thanks was given to Bro . Stevens for his services during the evening , and it was announced that at the meeting on Monday next , that brother would give for

the first time and in this lodge a lecture explanatory of the ceremonials of the Second Degree . The report of the Auditors of this prosperous lodge of Instruction was read and received , and thanks voted to the Auditors for their services . After a full business evening , which gave great satisfaction to all present , the lodge was closed in perfect harmony , and the meeting adjourned till the 3 rd inst .

COVENT GARDEN LODGE ( No . 1614 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held on the 22 nd ult ., at the Cranbourne Hotel , 1 , Upper St . Martin ' s Lane , W . C . The lodge was called from labour to refreshment , and

again brought on from refreshment to labour . Bro . Mogford offering himself as a candidate for passing , the usual questions were put and answered . Lodge opened in the Second Degree , and the W . M . rehearsed the ceremony of F . C . Lodge closed . Bro . Preceptor Richardson proposed

that Bro . Hewett , 1614 , be a joining member of this lodge of instruction , which was seconded by the J . W ., and carried unanimously . Bro . E . P . Ruyssenaers was elected W . M . for the ensuing week , and appointed his officers in rotation . Nothing further offering for the good of Freemasonry , the lodge was closed in due form and adjourned .

NEW FINSBURY PARK LODGE ( No . 1695 ) . —At the weekly meeting held at Hornsey Wood Tavern , Finsbury-park , on the 27 th ult ., there were present Bros . Bolt , W . The lodge was then closed and adjourned til ' Tuesday evening next , at 8 o ' clock .
