Lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to substantial meal , at the conclusion of which the usual toasts were proposed and received with the customs rv

M ., had performed the duties of his office . The visitors and members would join with him in congratulating their W . M . on his imuressive rendering of the ceremonies in the First and Third Degrees that evening .

Bro . C . I . Axford , W . M ., returned thanks , and said that during his term of office he had had a happy time , having been well supported by the oflicers and brethren , which at all times rendered it easier for the W . Initiate . " He said he had not at present ( penetrated very far into the mysteries of Freemasonry , but he thought that an institution which had endured as long as Masonry , and which had obtained the adhesion of so many men , from the highest to the lowest , was an institution worthy of support . He thought that from the ceremonials that evening he could conceive the principles which animated the brethren ,

and was quite sure that the secrets of Freemasonry , so far as he was concerned , would be safe . He hoped they would find that , although the last , he was not the least worthy of the brethren . Bro . W . H . Lee , Prov . Asst . G . Sec . Middx ., in response to the toast of " The Visitors , " said it gave him a great amount of pleasure to have the opportunity of visiting the

lodge , and he could , as on a previous occasion , congratulate the lodge on the progress made during the few years of its existence . It had afforded the visitors much pleasure to witness the admirable manner in which the ceremonies had been carried out . The impressive style in which the candidate was initiated by the W . M ., supported by the officers , must have made a deep impression on the worthy

brother introduced , as it did on all the brethren present . On behalf of the visitors , he returned thanks for the kind manner in which they had been received , and wished the lodge every success and prosperity . Under the able guidance of the Past Masters who had done good suit and service in Masonry for some years past , the successors of the W . M . would be enabled to carry out the duties in a

manner that would reflect the highest credit on the lodge . Bro . G . R . Langlev , I . P . M . 1 S 3 , also replied , and said it was his special privilege to meet many of the brethren present at the lodge of instruction , which was proud to acknowledge that it owed its warrant to the Brixton Lodge . He could testify to the excellent work done by the junior members of the Brixton Lodge , as evinced by their attendance at the lodge of instruction , and trusted that the

initiates of the future would be of as good an order as in the past . " The P . M . ' s , " "Treasurer and Secretary , " and "The Officers " having been given and duly responded to , the Tyler ' s toast closed an enjoyable meeting . Bro . John Read , P . P . G . Org . Middx ., presided at the pianoforte with his accustomed ability , and several brethren assisted the harmony with vocal selections .

James Archibald Kellie was installed in the chair of K . S . This lodge , although it has not yet got beyond its tenth year of existence , is accounted one of the very

largest of the province , and it need scarcely be said is the leading organisation of the Craft in the populous Northend . But not alone in numerical strength is No . 1756 celebrated amongst its compeers . A lodge that spends between £ So and £ 90 in deeds of Charity within one year , in addition to giving X 40 for the relief of widows of

deceased brethren through its Benevolent Fund , is justly entitled to the admiration and broad sympathy not alone of the brethren of the " mystic tie , " but even of the non-Masonic community . The year just passed through has been marked by considerable progress , and the lodge by all appearance has not yet reached the zenith of its useful

career . Upwards of 120 members and visitors were present at the opening of the proceedings in the Skelmersdale Hall . Bro . Robt . T . Britten , the I . P . M ., acted as W .

" The P . M .
