A Past Master ' s jewel was presented to Bro . W . C . Dewberry , the same being attached to the worthy brother ' s breast by the Deputy Prov . Grand Master ,

who made some appropriate remarks in so doing . The lodge was reported to be in a flourishing condition , and there is evidence of work in store . The sum of 10 guineas was voted to the Royal Masonic benevolent Institution . The bvethren . afterwards sat down to banquet , and the evening was spent in true Masonic harmony , which was added to by the vocal efforts of Bros . Brockbank and A . R . t h roes .

Darber , 2259 . The lodge was opened , when the VV . M . called upon Bro . Hartley to present to Bro . F . D . Walker a P . M . jewel , as a mark of esteem . Bro . Hartley , in making the presentation , referred to his long friendship with Bro . Walker , and to the fact that it was on his proposition , nearly 22 years ago , that Bro . Walker had been initiated into Masonry and

had become a member of St . George's Lodge . From the very first he had laid to heart that elementary admonition of the Order , to make a daily advance in Masonic knowledge , and he had not only filled every office of responsibility in the Craft with honour , but had twice held the position of Worshipful Master , and was now Installing Master whenever his services were wanted . Indeed Bro .

Walker had made himself absolute master of the full ritual of their Masonic ceremonies , and no brother had ever conducted those ceremonies with more skill and ability or with greater impressiveness . The brethren of St . George ' s Lodge felt they owed him a debt of gratitude for all his assistance in past years , which they could never sufficiently repay , but to mark their high appreciation of those

services , and by way of testifying to the esteem in which they held Bro . Walker personally and fraternally , they asked his acceptance of that splendid jewel , which had been specially designed for him and indicated the principal ollices which he had held in the lodge . Bro . Hartley then attached the jewel and expressed a hope that Bro . Walker would long live to wear it , and that hereafter it would be

valued by his children as indicating how high he had stood in the estimation of his brother Freemasons in Doncaster . Bro . Rand said the testimonial would be the more valued by Bro . Walker when he assured him all subscribed so heartily and spontaneously . The subscriptions were limited in amount , and confined to No . 242 , or they might have been doubled and trebled . There never was a testimonial given

with more hearty goodwill than the one on the present occasion . Bro . F . Walker , after having been invested , thanked the brethren in very feeling terms as ivell as his emotional feelings would allow . He was deeply touched by their appreciation and kindness , and this expression of their esteem would encourage him to still further exertion on behalf of St . George ' s Lodge . Bro . J . W . Turner next

presented a miniature set of Second Degree working tools for use in Craft working . The W . M . thanked Bro . Turner on behalf of the lodge lor his useful and valuable gift . The by-laws were afterwards read , and the Iodge was closed . The brethren subsequently sat down to a light supper , followed by the usual Alasonic toasts , interspersed with songs , & c , and a very agreeable evening terminated .

very and impressive manner . Bro . Everard having been passed to the Second Degree , the W . M . read the following letter t M r Loi : d Henniker » t , rov- Grand Master of Suffolk , to Mr . G . Smith , one of the candidates for initiation : " 1 am very pLased to hear you are about to join the ancient Urdev of Freemasonry , and that your projioser , Bro . GUERNSEY . Doyle ' s Lodge of Fellowship ( No . 84 . ) . — The usual installation day of this lodge is the 27 th December , but in consequence of the Worshipful Master elect , Bro . Major Giles , being only expected in England from Mashonaland on that day itself , a dispensation was obtained for the postponement of the ceremony to

Saturday , the 2 nd inst ., and on this day no contretemps having occurred , Bro . Giles presented himself , and was ably and impressively installed by Bro . J . Balfour Cockburn , P . M ., who has acted as Installing Master of this lodge for some years past . After the ceremony the lodge was closed , and the brethren repaired to Bro . Gardner ' s , Royal Hotel , where a numerous company sat down to an excellent banquet .

After the usual loyal toasts had been duly honoured , Bro . Giles , in returning thanks , gave some very interesting details of his journeyings in South Africa , and expressed most hopeful views of the future of Mashonaland , though he carefully warned all those who might be induced to venture to those parts that they must be prepared to rough it , and a fortune was not to be made in a day or a year ,

possibly not for 13 years or more , and then only with hard work and steady application . In the course of the evening " The Health of Bro . J . H . Guilbert , P M ., " was proposed in a peculiarly able and feeling manner by Bro . Stickland , P . M . Bro . Guilbert , P . M ., is one of , if not the oldest Mason in the island , and has held the office of Treasurer of the

Iodge upwards of io years . He is now retiring at his own request to the great regret of every member . The proceedings ofthe evening were greatly enlivened by the kind efforts of several of the brethren , this lodge being for the moment very rich in good vocalists—notably Bros . Percy Groves , < > zanne , Pickering , and Capt . Carey , not omitting the W . M . himself , who is a capital performer .

There were several guests , among whom we noticed Bros . Capt . Groeme , P . M ., and VV . S . Carey , of the Aldershot Lodge , and the Rev . Pickering , P . G .
