BAYARD CHAPTER ( No . 1615 ) . —The election of officers' meeting was held on Monday , 4 th instant , at 33 , Golden-square . In the unavoidable absence abroad of Comp . Emmett , the ist Principal ' s chair was occupied by Comp . Frank Richardson , P . G . D ., P . Z ., supported by Comps . Capt . Henry Wright , H . ; Sauerbrey , j . ; Lieut .-CoI . Haldane , P . G . S . B . ; Rev . Dr . Scott , Scribe N . ;

J . Balmbro , P . S . ; Ii . Savory , A . Soj . ; Major Field , and others . Bros . Morice , I'Anson , and Mayors , all of the Bayard Lodge , were balloted for , and being present , were exalted to the Sublime Degree of R . A ., in a most impressive manner , by Comp Frank Richardson . The three lectures were subsequently delivered by the respective Principals ,

this chapter being noted for its working by all its officers . Comp . H . Wright was elected Z . for the ensuing year , the other officers being elected in rotation . It is needless to say that Comps . Lieut .-Col . Haldane and Lieut .-Col . Somerville Burney were again chosen as Scribe E . and Treas . respectively . The former may well be termed the backbone of the chapter . The Z . elect stated that he had

received letters from their late colleague , Comp . Dr . J . H . Carson , which he thought the companions would like to hear . Comp . Carson seems to be very happy as medical officer to the British Embassy at Teheran . He has lately been presented by the Shah of Persia with a valuable

diamond ring . Comp . Wright was desired to forward "The Hearty good wishes" of the chapter to Comp , Carson . The members afterwards dined together at the Cafe Royal , under the presidency of Comp . Frank Richardson , and spent a most enjoyable evening .

WOOLWICH . —Union Waterloo Chapter ( No . 13 ) . —The installation meeting of the . above prosperous chapter took place on Wednesday , the 30 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , William-street , Comp . Capt . G . Spinks presiding as Z . ; Comp . Capt . D . Deeves , as H . ; Comp . Capt . A . C . Woodley , as J . The chapter having been opened , and the companions admitted , the ballot was taken

for Bros . F . Barry , P . M . 915 , and F . Hully , 106 S , and proved unanimous . Bro . Barry being in attendance was duly exalted to the Supreme Degree . Comp . A . Penfold , P . Z ., P . Z . 913 , P . Z . 1472 , P . P . G . ist A . S ., then assumed the position of Installing Officer , and in due course installed Comp . Deeves , as 7 ,. ; Comp . Woodley , as H . ; and Comp . R . J . Warren , P . Z . 1472 , as J . The

following oflicers were then invested : Camps . G . Spinks , I . P . Z . ; G . Kenneday , P . Z ., Scribe E . ; E . West , P . Z ., P . Z . 1472 , Treas . ; G . VV . King , Scribe N . ; C . H . Penfold then gave the usual addresses , and concluded a ceremony such as we have rarely seen equalled , never surpassed , in

splendid style , for which he was accorded a hearty and unanimous vote of thanks , the same to be inscribed on the minutes of the chapter . A vote of thanks was also accorded to Comps . Lock and Shackleton for their services as Auditors , and it was resolved " That the meetings of the chapter in future be held at the new Masonic Hall , Plumstead . " A handsome and valuable P . Z . 's jewel was

presented to Comp . Spinks , and these companions severally returned thanks . A letter of condolence was voted to Comp . Butter , P . Z . 913 , P . P . G . P . S ., on his late severe accident at the Royal Arsenal , and then the chapter was closed . The banquet was partaken of at Comp . De Gray's famous hostelry , the Freemasons' Hotel , opposite the Dockyard Station , and was both elegantly and swiftly served . Among the other brethren present were Comps . W . Keeble , F . H . Widgery , A . Fenn , J . Hancock , and H . Syer , all of the chapter ; W . B . Lloyd , P . Z ., 913 , and P . P . G . S . B . Kent ; R . Cook , M . E . Z . 913 ; E . Morris , P . S . 913 ; L . Chasteaneuf , 913 ; and C . Jolly , M . E . Z . elect , 1472 and 913 ( Hon ) . The usual loyal and Grand Chapter toasts having been

given and drunk with enthusiasm , that of the " M . E . Z . " was proposed by Comp . Spinks , who said it had been relegated to him to propose the toast of their most excellent Comp . Deeves , who had that day been installed into the principal chair of the chapter , and he considered it not only an honour , but a great pleasure to have to do so . He had known Comp . Deeves intimately for the last 20 years

and had worked with him in Masonry both in the chapter and their old lodge at Plumstead , and had always found him a good comrade and a good Mason . There was one thing that Comp . Deeves seemed to have a great partiality for , and that was to trail him ( Comp . Spinks , " wherever he went . Comp . Deeves trailed him to Natal during the last Zulu

war , he trailed him there and took up his work , and now he had trailed him through the chair of the chapter , so that they would fully understand the pleasure he felt in proposing the health of their esteemed M . E . Z . In calling upon them to drink the toast in bumpers , he felt that he was also calling them to perform a most pleasant and hearty task . The toast having been drank with

enthusiasm , Comp . Deeves thanked them most heartily for their cordial reception of the toast , but yet felt his heart too full to give expression to his feelings . Theirs was an old and venerable chapter ; it had had its bright and happy days ; it had had its dark and sombre days ; but now he was proud to say all was bright again ; they were doing

well j and , in the early future , he felt sure it would even surpass its pristine glory . He thanked them for placing him in his present proud and exalted position—the F'irst Principal of such a grand old chapter—a position anyone might be proud of ; and , as they had so placed him , he begged them to remember that no First Principal could successfully carry out his duties unless he was supported

by every officer and companion of the chapter . He asked them , above all things , to be to his faults a little blind , and to his virtues more than kind . He again thanked them , and resumed his seat amid hearty cheering . Comp . Woodley having briefly responded for "The

Second Principal , " Comp . Warren responded for "The Third Principal , " and said with him there were two extremes—extremely good , or extremely bad ; but he hoped in the office he now held , and hoped to hold , in that chapter to be extremely of the former . He was thc founder of two new chapters , had

Royal Arch.

passed the chair of one , and was now J . of the oldest in the district . He was proud of the chapter , and of those who had for so many years stuck to it through thick and thin . They were out of debt , and meant to keep so , and had the three great elements of prosperity on their sidecash , credit , and numbers .

The M . E . Z . then gave " The Installing Officer , " and , in so doing , said he had known Comp . Penfold for the last 23 years , and he was now as then , and then as now , one of the best of Masons and kindliest of men ; in fact , he was , so far as his Masonic knowledge was concerned , what the French called the " cremede la creme " of it . That day

he had splendidly worked the arduous ceremony of installation ; it was an honour to the chapter to have among its P . Z . ' s such a good and worthy Mason , and he asked them to drink the toast heartily . Comp . Penfold , who was heartily cheered in rising to respond , said he was very pleased and gratified to hear how

cordially the toast of his health was received by the companions . As their M . E . Z . had said , the chapter had had its bad days and its bright days ; it had existed for some 50 or 60 years , and he saw no reason why it should not exist for another 50 or 60 years . He was much struck with the remarks of Comp . Spinks respecting his long acquaintance

and friendship with their M . E . Z . ; it showed that the good feeling had deepened and broadened as time went on , and had cemented their friendship into that true brotherly love which ought at all times to exist among Masons . With reference to the kind and complimentary remarks of their M . E . Z . on his performance of the installation ceremony that

day , he could not help being proud of the fact that he had upon more that one occasion installed the Principals of that chapter and others , and trusted he might be spared to install many more . He was pleased to hear that they were out of debt , and had something lo the debit side of the account ; it was very gratifying , and he trusted the

prosperity of the chapter would long continue . " The Visitors " was responded to by Comps . Cook and Jolly . The other toasts were "The Exaltee , " " The Past Principals , " " The Officers , " and the Janitor's toast . The proceedings were enlivened by some excellent harmony .

HECKMONDWIKE . — Amphibious Chapter ( No . 25 S ) . —The annual installation took place on Wednesday , the 30 th ult ., at the Freemasons' Hall . The chapter was opened , and , after the confirmation of the minutes of the previous meeting , a conclave of Installed Principals was formed , and Comp . T . J . Pickles , P . Z .,

BAYARD CHAPTER ( No . 1615 ) . —The election of officers' meeting was held on Monday , 4 th instant , at 33 , Golden-square . In the unavoidable absence abroad of Comp . Emmett , the ist Principal ' s chair was occupied by Comp . Frank Richardson , P . G . D ., P . Z ., supported by Comps . Capt . Henry Wright , H . ; Sauerbrey , j . ; Lieut .-CoI . Haldane , P . G . S . B . ; Rev . Dr . Scott , Scribe N . ;

Z ., Scribe E . ; E . West , P . Z ., P . Z . 1472 , Treas . ; G . VV . King , Scribe N . ; C . H . Canning , P . S . ; W . Tailby , ist A . S . ; W . Akers , 2 nd A . S . ; W . G . Lock , Stwd . ; and H . De Gray , D . C . Comp .
