Faulkner , presided , supported by a large array of brethren . The loyal and Mas nic toasts were duly rec : ived and drunk with enthusiasm .

Bro . Slyman responded to Ihe toast of "Bro . Robert Wylie , D . P . G . M . West Lancashire , and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past . " In proposing" The Health of theW . M ., Bro . Faulkner , " Bro . Roberts said he was sure they would all be proud to be tcld they had a true , hardworking honest W . M . in the chair that evening . He was one of those people who was

fluent in speech and firm and strong in principle . Those were qualities which were absolutely necessary in his position . It was no light task he had undertaken to perform , but he had no doubt , judging from the manner Bro . Faulkner had done his work in the past , that there could be no more worthy Master for the Talbot Lodge than he would prove himself . He had no doubt that the brethren of the

Talbot Lodge would rally round him and give him their support in the future as they had done to his predecessors in the past . The toast was drunk with the greatest cordia'ity , " Here ' s to his Health" being sung by Bro . John Allin . Bro . Alderman Gibson , in supporting the toast , said that one peculiar characteristic of their W . M . was that he desired to do to others as he would like others to do to him .

He felt they had done honour to themselves in appointing such a man to the high position which he had attained that day , and he was sure that at the expiration of the year they would find that they had appointed the right man to the right place . He tendered his sincere congratulations to Bro . Faulkrer on the position he had attained . Itwas one he had deserved , and he trusted at the expiration of his term he would feel that it had been a most active and

happy year to him and his . The Worshipful Master , in re'ponding . expressed to Bros . Roberts and Gibson his sincere ( hanks for Ihc more than kind and generous terms in which they had submitted the toast , and to lhe brethren , one and all , for the hearty and enthusiastic manner in which they had received it . He had often noticed that one of the most important

qualifications of a man following thc profession he followed was that his powers of observation should be cultivated to the utmost . He had often noticed that at banquets of that kind ' and ceremonies of an allied character , that when a W . M . was called upon to respond to the toast of his health , he frequently took a retrospective view of his Masonic career . He did not propose to follow that custom

on the present occasion , for thc simple reason that in his Masonic life tl ere was nothing that was romantic , ancient , or interesting . His Masonic history was the history of the Talbot Lodge . He had been cradled and brought up , Masonically , in that lodge , which , as they knew , had only been established a few years . Therefore , the history of the Talbot Lodge and his history were interwoven , and were

essentially modern . 1 hey had had a past in Talbot Lodge which was familiar to most of them . They saw what the Talbot Lodge was that day , and he must say they had endeavoured to practice those truly Masonic principles of unity , brotherly love , relief , and truth , and for the moment he was given to taken a mental picture of what he hoped Ihe future would be . He hoped that in that future , which

he approached with feelings of great hopefulness and buoyancy , they would see these grand Masonic principles become stioiget and more robust , and further intensified and dtveloieil , M : that in the future , no matter how high and bright that ideal might be to which they might aspire , they would make an hrn ; st and earnest endeavour to attain to it lhat day . He could not resume his seat without

thanking the Piovincial Grand Officers , and everyone of Ihe brethren for their presence that day . He was particularl y indebted to the first W . M . of that lodge , Bo . Boden . He look it as a very great honour to the Talbot Lodge , but more as a personal honour , that he was present that day , for it was under Bro . Boden ' s auspices he received his Masonic education , which was a fact he could not

forgcl . After a song from Bro . Levy , The W . M . rose , and said , that so well had Bro . Roberts deseived if ihem again and so well was he appreciated for his labours in the chair , that he had been deputed to ask him to accept at their hands a Past Master ' s jewel . The inscription was : "Presented to Hro . John Roberts , Past

Mister , in recognition of his services as W . M . during 1 S 94 . " He ( Uro . Faulkn'r , a . skjd him lo wear it alwajs with feelings of 11 asure , and hoped he would always look upon it as an outward and visible symbol of lhe esteem and regard , nay , he wuu'd add a stronger word , and say affection , in which he was held by the brethren of lhat lodge . He hoped he might be lung spared to labour f jr the good

of that lodge , and also for the good of Masonry in general . He then pinned the jewel on Bro . Roberts' breast amid hearly cheers . Bro . Roberts responded in feeling and appropriate terms . Other toasts were given including "The Visitors , " who responded . Under the care of Hro . Charles Martyne , P . M ., D . C , th : arrangr m- ; nts generally were well carried out . Bro . I .

Bro . I .
