Obituary.

Obituary .

BRO . TOM WOOD , P . M ., P . P . A . G . D . C . CHESHIRE . It is with sincere regret we record the death of Bro . Tom Wood , P . M ., P . P . A . G . D . C , at the early age of 44 years . Bro . Wood was well known and deservedl y respected throughout the Provinces of East and West

Obituary.

Lancashire and Cheshire . He was initiated over 20 years since in the De Grey and Ripon Lodge , No . 1161 , but severed his connection with it , and joined the Victoria Lodge , No . 1345 , in which he filled most of the offices and passed through the chairs , occupying that of W . M . in 1891 , with conspicuous ability . He was one of the earliest joining members of the

De Tatton Lodge , No . 2144 , where , from time to time , he did excellent work , in recognition of which he was awarded the provincial honours of A . D . C . in 1893 . He was also a member of Avon Lodge , No . 16 33 , and of Truth Lodge , No . 1458 , to these four lodges he was a subscribing member at the time of his death ; where , by his sterling qualities as a man and a Mason ,

he had endeared himself to all his fellow members , He was both a Royal Arch and a Mark Mason , and in the latter Degree held provincial rank . Bro . Wood possessed a most amiable disposition and was of a thoroughly generous nature , never allowing any really deserving appeal to go unrelieved . That he was beloved by his brethren and respected by the general public

with whom , in'his sphere , he came into contact , was abundantly testified to by the fact that , in spite of the inclement weather , about 150 uninvited sympathisers assembled at St . Paul ' s Church , Kersal , on Thursday , the 31 st ult ., to witness the curtain descend on the last

act of the human drama , many of whom had previously sent beautiful floral tributes to his memory . It was a touching , yet gratifying scene , and will live in the minds of many of us who knew him best till we , in our turn , follow him to " that bourn from whence no traveller returns . "

BRO . RICHARD RHODES . It is with regret we announce the sudden death on Friday , the 25 th ult ., of Bro . Richard Rhodes , Clerk of Petty Sessions , Mountmellick , and Prov . Grand Secretary of the Midland Counties ( I . R . ) . Bro . Rhodes had been attending a concert in the Town Hall . It is assumed that he felt somewhat indisposed ,

for he left the hall and had hardly gone a few paces from the door when he was seen to fall , and though he was instantly raised , Bro . Dr . Neale , who was in the concert room and was at once summoned , pronounced life to be extinct . Bro . Rhodes , who was only 54 years of age , had been for many years an active member of our Order , having done good service while in India ,

but more especially during the last few years since he went to reside at Mountmellick . He was a P . M . of Lodge No . 660 , P . K ., honorary member of No . 39 8 and other lodges , and had been , since the resignation of Bro . R . Bull , Prov . Grand Secretary of the Midland Counties . His remains were interred in Mountmellick

Churchyard on Monday , the 28 th ult ., and was very numerously attended , among those present being the staff of the 4 th Battalion Leinster Regiment , and a large number of brethren from Roscrea , Portarlington , Parsonstown , Maryborough , & c , while among those who sent wreaths were Lodge No . 398 , Maryborough , and Lodges Nos . 139 and 660 , Mountmellick .

BRO . OSCAR BARRETT was one of the prize . winners a ' the Crystal Palace Art Union on Thursday , the 31 st ult-A ROYAL decree has been published at Athensappointing a commission , under the presidency of the Crown Prince , to organise the Olympian games in 1896 . LONDON MISSIONARY SOCIETY . —The centenary fund has now risen to £ 48 , 000 , and so far it has not interfered with the ordinary income of the society .
