the Committee of Grand Chapter when asked to appear and show cause why ( he chapter should not be erased . Comp . BEACH enquired whether there was any companion who could state why this chapter at Corfu should not be erased . As no reply was given , after a short pause ,

Comp . ROBERT GREY said : Then I move that it be erased from the list of chapters . Comp . FRANK RICHARDSON seconded , and the motion was carried . On the motion of Comp . ROBERT GREY , seconded by Comp . FRANK R ICHARDSON , the following recommendations were agreed to :

The Committee have further to report that the Rose of Sharon Chapter , No . 1006 , St . Day , Scorrier , Cornwall , are takirg steps to remove the Chapter to Redruth .

The Commitlee have also to report that the Charter of the Royal Hanover Chapter , No . 1777 , Twickenham , Middlesex , has been returned with the report that the chapter has ceased working , they therefore recommend that the Chapter be summoned to show cause why it should not be erased . Grand Chapter was then closed .

Second Ladies' Banquet Of The Molesey Lodge, No. 2473.

SECOND LADIES' BANQUET OF THE MOLESEY LODGE , No . 2473 .

The Molesey Lodge , No . 2473 , ' certainly to be congratulated on the vigour and energy with which the members have carried on its business during the two years it has been in existence . A reputation has alread y been established for excellence of working and a liberal support of the Masonic Charities , Bro . C . O . Burgess , W . M ., having taken up the largest list in the province of Surrey at the last Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution for Aged

Freemasons ; thus completing his qualification as Vice-President of all three Masonic Charities , and its thoroughly up-to-date character is evinced from the fact that the second ladies' banquet was held at the Hotel Windsor , Victoriastreet , S . W ., on the 30 th ult ., and proved an unqualified success . Bro . C . O . Burgess , the W . M ., presided , and was assisted in the arrangements of the evening by Bros . J . D . Langton , I . P . M . ; E . Lane Campbell , W . J . Harvey , H . J . Keen , and C Morrell , Stewards ; and E . L . Berry , the indefatigable Secretary .

After a well-served repast , The WORSHIPFUL MASTER briefly proposed "The Queen and the Craft" and " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., and the rest of the Royal Family . " Bro . J . D . LANGTON , P . P . G . W . Surrey , I . P . M ., then said he had the pleasure of proposing the next toast , which , he was sure , would be a popular one —• " The Health of the Worshi pful Master . " Bro . Burgess was well known to all the members of the lodge , and was held in high respect on account of the

kind and genial way in which he ruled over them . He was sure the ladies would join in drinking the toast in consideration of the way in which the W . M . had presided that evening . Bro . Burgess was pleased to be the W . M . of the Molesey Lodge , and one of his great pleasures had been the anticipations of this meeting . The way in which the ladies and brethren had supported him must be very gratify ! ng . Bro . C . O . BURGESS , Prov . G . Stwd . Surrey , W . M ., in response , said his reply would be brief , owing to the musical programme that was to follow , but it was

only due in courtesy to thank the I . P . M . for the kind manner in which he had proposed , his health , and also for the very pleasant way in which it had been received . The I . P . M . had proposed that toast more than once , and always did it in a courteous and kind manner that was somewhat undeserved on his ( the W . M . ' s ) part . Among a party of personal friends , it was unnecessary to stand upon formalities and to dwell upon those matters which sometimes occupied the speeches of Masters in reply to that toast . He would therefore refrain , and simply say

how pleased he was to be present to see the manner in which the ladies and brethren had assembled to do honour to the occasion , and if the numbers were equalled next year he was sure his successor would do his best to make them happy . Mention had been made of a launch party in the summer time , and there was ample justificationforthat , as the last occasion was numerously attended . They then had a most enjoyable day , and if Providence gave then equally good weather this year , he hoped to see them all present then . He thanked them for the flittering way in which they had received his health , and hoped to meet them again in the summer time .

The WORSHIPFUL MASTER then said he approached the next toast with a little trepidation , as he felt unable to do justice to it . It was that of " The Ladies . " The brethren would all join in expressing their greatest satisfaction at seeing so large an asssmbly of ladies present . He hoped as years went by the ladies would help them to make their annual banquet one of those gatherings they looked forward to with the keenest anticipation . A brother could not become a founder of a new lodge unless he belonged to at least one other lodge , and

consequently when itwas proposed to found the Molesey Lodge the married brethren who had already devoted time to Masonic duties had to consult their wives as to whether they might divorce themselves from the domestic circle for another period . He did not know what happened to other brethren , but he would tell them what happened in his own case . When the time came to draw the monthly cheque for the milliner ' s and other bills , that cheque was drawn without the usual criticism and murmur . He then innocently mentioned he had several

brethren who desired occasionally to meet and form a new lodge . Under the influence of that generous cheque , and a pleasant social conversation , Mrs . Burgess somewhat reluctantly gave her consent . She duly repented next morning after the manner of ladies , but it was too late , and doubtless some other brethren may have had a similar experience . The Molesey brethren could not possibly

feil to be proud of having joined in the formation of this successful lodge . There were but three bachelors . One relented at the first ladies' festival , but the other two had had the audacity to come again , although they might , before next year , see the error of their ways , and come to the next festival duly accompanied by their respective wives . Bro . E . L . BERRY , Sec , responded in a humorous vein , after which

Tolhurst , H . R . H . Haycraft , and J . Gilbert , Tyler . Visitors : Bros . H . Baldwin , P . P . G . Sid . Br . Middx . j T . V . Turner , P . M . i 2 ifi ; E . VV . Ellis , P . M . 1314 ; VV . Daily , 2417 ; and R . T . West , 1744 .

After the minutes of the last meeting had been read , the W . M . raised Bros . Oscrolt , Knights , and Jenkins , and afterwards passed Bro . Buchanan , and initiated Messrs . A , Holbrook , F . Tolhurst , H . R . H . Haycraft , and L . Anson . The working of the W . M . was excellent . The Secretary reported the death of Bro . W . Batty , P . M ., an old and respected member of the lodge . After a long discussion as to the desirability of having a ladies' night , and a gentleman having been proposed for initiation at the next meeting , the lodge was closed .

The dinner that followed was supplied by Bro . A . Clemow in his best style , and ably served . After the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , Bro . W . R . Larter , / . P . M ., proposed " The Health of the W . M . " He said that Bro . Rashleigh was one ot the best Masters that had ever occupied the chair in the lodge . He had never seen the working of thc

Three Degrees done better than that witnessed that evening . Looking at the great number who Hocked round his banner , it went without saying that he was very much respected both in and out of Masonry , and when he left the chair it would be with renown , accompanied by their heartiest thanks , for the great things he had done for tho lodge .

the toast was enthusiastically received , as was Bro . Rashleigh , W . M ., on rising to respond . He stated that words failed him to express what he felt after the kind remarks of the I . P . M ., and the manner he had been received . His heart was thoroughly in Masonry , and particularly in the lodge , and if his working was satisfactory to thebrethren he was delighted , and nothing would be wanting on his part to do his utmost for its prosperity and the happiness of the members , and , in concluding an earnest speech , he remarked that he was going up as Steward for the Girls' School , and he hoped they would honour him by making up a big list in amount for that deserving Charity .

In submitting the toast of "The Initiates , " the W . M . observed that it was his great wish to keep the lodge firm , true , and good , and great care should be taken that those who were introduced should be in every way eligible . The four he had the honour to initiate that night were of good quality , and certainly up to the standard . In response , Bro . Holbrook said that he was pleased he had become a Mason , and that many of hU friends wire members of the Craft .

Bro . lolhurst stated that after the splendid ceremony he had witnessed , he was proud to bc a brother , and hoped to uphold the Burgoyne Lodge , and that at some future date to be its Master . Bro . Haycroft also aspired to be W . M . Bro . Anson said that he came that evening thoroughly prepared , as he thought to be made a member , but what followed had been a great surprise to him .

The W . M . gave " The Visitors . " He said that those who had honoured the lodge with their presence were good and true and were very welcome . Bro . Baldwin stated that the visitors had thoroughly enjoyed themselves , and he congratulated the W . M . on his splendid working of the three Degrees . He was glad that all the initiates aspired to go through the chair of their mother lodge , which wa ; well known as one of the best in London .

Suitable responses were also made by Bros . Hardman , Smith , Jamieson , Turner , Divey , McCamley , Tavener , Daily , and Juby , the latter stating that he knew the vast pains the VV . M . had taken to qualify himself for the great work he had done that night , and he was pleased with the success he was achieving . "The Masonic Press" having been toas ' ed , The VV . M ., in eloquent terms proposed "The I . P . M , Bro . Larter , Past Masters , Treasurer and Secretary , " coupled with the' name of Bro . Larter who responded . He

stated that he was proud to belong to so noble a band , and his Masonic career was due entirely to the Past Masters . He hoped the lodje would have a ladies' night , and in a humorous s ' . rain he explain ; d what he woul 1 suffer if the fair sex were not to be entertained by the members . The next toast was "The Oflicers , " the W . M . stating that they were his ardent supporters , and had rendered him and the lodge every assistance . They were all able to to take higher ollice , which showed them to be good workers and were making themselves perfect .

Bro . C . Cowland , S . VV ., responded . He and his colleagues were only too pleased to render any service , and he urged the members who were aspiring for ollice to attend the lodge of instruction in connection with the lodge . The Tyler ' s toast brought the very successful meeting to an end . During the evening some good songs were well rendered by Bros . Juby , G . Brown , and Jamieson , but special mention shoul J be made of the latter .

Duke Of Connaught Lodge ( No . 1524 ) . —This flourishing lodge , which was originally established at " The Sisters Tavern , " Pownall-road , Dalston , and now finds a home at Anderton's Hotel , Fleet-street , E . C , celebrated the completion of its 22 nd year on the the 31 st ultimo . There was a gooi attendance of members and visitors , who were rewarded wilh an exhibition of excellent working , the installation of Bro . Esmond J . Turnbull as VV . M . by Bro . P . VV . Rogers , I . P . M ., being especially well rendered . The lodge was opened by Bro . P . VV . Rogers , W . M ., supported by Bros . E . J . Turnbull , S . W . ; VV . T . Oakley , J . W . ; VV . H .

Juby , G .
