THE LONDON COTTAGE MISSION . —No one who knows anything of this most deserving charity can fail to admire the pluck—there is no other work for it—with which it has carried on its Christian and beneficent work during the past winter in spite of all obstacles , not the least formidable of which has been the financial one . Vet on Alonday last again great numbers of the starving
children and poor of the East-end had a good hot dinnei of " Irish Stew ; " and others , unable to leave their homes , had a supply sent to them there . Every effort is being made to continue these welcome dinners for the poor , at least during this month . But , as we hinted , funds are urgently required , and if our readers will only bear in mind that every little helps , they can send in their
contributionshowever small—either to the Lady Superintendent , Aliss F . Napton , 304 , Burdett-road , Limehouse , E ., or to Air . Walter Austin , 44 , Finsbury-pavement , E . G ., by whom they will be gladly and thankfully received . While everybody complains of tightness of money , 1 observe there is little effort to economise . People eat and drink , give parties , go to thc play , take
hunting boxes , as if they were all proprietors of a flourishing Indian gold mine . As to drinking , 1 should like to see thc "little dinner" supper or dance wliere champagnes didn ' t flow in rivulets . There is a marked deterioration , however , in the quality , and 1 S 74 champagnes are too seldom seen . In many well-known houses and clubs I find ROPER
FRERES' champagnes much in vogue , and , looking at their prices , I see' that the wines of this celebrated firm are far from expensive . I , therefore , honestly recommend ROPER FRERES' champagnes for high quality , and if 1874 * 8 can still be procured , the price must speak for itself as being very moderate . — Whitehall Review .
