M . Stiles , G . Treas ., which must leave a lasting impression on the brethren who had

Ihe good fortune to hear him , and he closed his career as the first Worshipful Master of Ihe llissold Lodge with eclat . The next duty of the new W . M . was , as he observed , a very important and pleasing one , it being to present Bro . W . M . Stiles , Grand Treas ., I . P . M ., with a Past Master ' s jewel as a small token in recognition of his eminent services , which would never be forgotten by the members . Bro . W . M . Stiles , acknowledged the jewel in brief but eloquent terms . Bro . VV . M . Stiles , Grand Treas ., stated that Bro . C . F . Hogard , P . G . Std . Br ., had rendered great service on the fornutionof

the lodge , and he regretted that he had had to resign the Secretaryship in consequence of his business arrangements , which had also compelled him to give up all his other Masonic offices , and he had much pleasure in proposing that he be elected an honorary member of the lodge . In putting the proposition , the W . M . spoke in the highest praise of the great things Bro . Hogard had done for Freemasonry . In acknowledging the

vote , which was carried unanimously . Bro . Hogard said that he had received many kindnesses from all thc members during the last 12 months , and he hoped to be spared for many years to be among them . Five guineas was voted from the lodge funds to be placed on the W . M . ' s list as Steward for the Boys' School , which , he stated , am ounted lo upwards of £ 67 . A gentleman having been proposed for initiation at the next meeting , thc lodire was closed , and the brethren adi mrned to an excellent banquet .

At the close of the repast the Worshipful Master gave the usual loyal and Masonic toasts in earnest and happy terms . In proposing "The Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the Worshipful Master made special mention of Brcs . W . M . Stiles , G . Treas . j J . Terry , Sec . R . M . B . L ; and C . F . Hogard , P . G . Std . Br ., who were much esteemed , and it gave him pleasure to couple the name of Bro . J . Terry with the toast .

Bro . J . Terry , Sec . R . M . B . L , said he appreciated the honour in being called upon to respond to the toast , but he was a suboroinate officer in the presence of the Grand Treasurer , Bro . W . M . Stiles . He was glad to know that Bro . McLeod was to receive Grand honours , and , on behalf of the Grand Officers of England , he wished the W . M . every happiness and a successful year of office .

Bro . W . M . Stiles , G . Treas , proposed " The Health of the Worshipful Mister . " He said that it afforded him much pleasure to submit the toast , as in Bro . Lamigeon they had one who had done a great deal in the formation of the lodge , and it was a question between the W . M . and Bro . Robert Emery , who , he was sorry to say , was not able to be present , as to who had done the most in the formation . Bro . Lamigeon was a very good fellow , and they all appreciated his going into the chair , and there was no dcubt that he would look after the interests of the lodge in every way .

Bro . J . J . Lamigeon , VV . M ., on rising to respond , was received with enthusiasm . He said , as brevity was the soul of wit , he would be brief . He did not know how to thank Bro . Stiles for his kind words , which coming from so eminent a Mason were very gratifying to him . Although a Frenchman , he was an Englishman at heart , having been in this country for 20 years , and the dearest friends he had in the world were Englishmen . He had been a Mason for 16 years , and was proud to be W . M . ; he nail a great task to follow Bro . W . M . Stiles , but he would do his very best in his new tffi : e , and he hoped he would give every satisfac ion to all the members .

,. In giving "The Installing and Immediate Past Master , Bro . Stiles , G . Treasurer , " wr . icb , the W . M . remarked , was the toast of the evening , he said it was impossible for any lodge to have a better member than Bro . Stiles . He had done great things for the Lraft and the Charities , and , in having him as their first W . M ., he was second to none , and if all the members would follow in his footsteps the lodge would be a marked one in 1-ondon . He was honoured to have him as I . P . M ., and he would be able to go through "is duties with the knowledge that he had one of the best Preceptors in the Masonic world to assist him in the ritual .

uro . w . M . Stiles , G . Ireas ., I . P . M ., on rising to respond , received a very hearty welcome . He said that it was a great honourto be the first Master of a lodge , especially when it was a success . He was glad that they considered he had carried out his duties well , and he hoped to carry out in the future everything they thought he was capable He again referred to the Past Mailer ' s jewel , whicn he shou'd always honcur . The W . M . gave "The Visitors , " which , he stated , was a toast that was always received

at every Masonic gathering with enthusiasm . T hey were honoured with the Presence of good representatives of the Craft . He made special mention of Bro . J . B . ' loulder , who had travelled 250 miles to witness his installation , and he joined his nam aid those of Bros . W . A . Scurrah , Ramsey , and Dunstan . Bro . W . A . Scurrah , P . M ., Vice-President Board of General Purposes , responded . > e said it was a great pleasure to visit the lodge . He was present at its consecration . .. Bro . Stiles was installed the first Master and it had made great progress under his

He would not inflict upon them a long speech but uld content himself by simply thenking them for their great hospitality . hrl 1 ' ? amsey also responded . He stated that the name of Bro . Stiles was a house-L , woid in Masonry and his being the first W . M . spoke volumes for the prosperity of "le lodge . Ion ^ ' ^ ' Moulder said that he had known the W . VI . for 20 years and had come a w i £ , way ' 0 see him installed , and he had had a great treat in the working of Bro . Stiles , , ch was grand . From his knowledge of Bro . carry out his duties with every satisfaction to the members and he hoped his initiates would be quality and not quantity . In conclusion he gave them all a cordial invitation to attend his lodge in Plymouth . Bro . Dunstan also acknowledgeel the toast , remarking that if the members gave the VV . M . plenty of work he would not disgrace it .

In submitting the toast of "The Masonic Charities , " the W . M . stated that they had with them Bros . J . Terry , Sec . R . M . B . L , and J . M . McLeod , Sec . R . M . I . B ., who took a great interest in them and they deserved the highest praise for the great work they did for the noble Institutions they so well represented . He referred to his Stewardship for the Boys' Festival and urged the members to help to make his list amount to over three figures , and he asscciated with the toast the name of Bro . McLeod .

In response , Bro . McLeod , Sec . R . M . I . B ., said that he would hive wished his more expert senior , Bro . Terry , had been called upon to acknowledge the toast , because he wou'd have done so in better terms than he could , but he supposed that as the W . M . was going up as Stewird for the Boys , that was the reason he was named . The lodge , although a very young one , had not forgotten the Charities , for which he was grateful . He then gave some full and interesting details of the three Institutions , and in refening to the Old People he paid a tribute to the great energy displayed by Bro . Terry .

The toast of "The Treasurer and Secretary " was next given by the W . M ., and was most ably responded to by Bros . VV . M . Stiles , G . Treas ., Treas ., and T . Carleton , Secretary . In giving " The Officers , " the W . M . observed that he was honoured with a splendid staff , to which suitable responses were made . The Tyler ' s toast concluded a most enjoyable evening .

The excellent musical programme was under the able direction of Bro . Willie Wright , P . P . G . Org . Middx ., assisted by the Elite Concert Party , Bros . Richd . Evans , Harry Hall , Sam Wright , and Oswald Sharpley , and Miss Phyllis Hope and Miss Florence Glover , but a word of praise is due to th : two ladies for their sweet and exquisite singing .

Ion ^ ' ^ ' Moulder said that he had known the W . carry out his duties with every satisfaction to the members and he hoped his initiates would be quality and not quantity .
