elephant Poonah take part . There has also been a cat show , while as regards the future , we are promised a resumption by Bro . Sims Reeves of his concerts in the Connaught Hall , the date of the concerts already fixed being the 6 th and 20 th November and the 4 th and iSth December .

The action of magistrates sitting as a licencing board has been so often and so justl y the subject of censure , that it is pleasant to be able to single out for praise the sensible conduct of a bench in Wales . For six years past the magistrates at Glandovey , in Montgomeryshire , have persistently refused to grant any further licences , holding apparently that there were quite sufficient of the existing

class of public-houses . This prohibition extended to the granting of a licence to the refreshment rooms at Glandovey Station j but at the last Brewster Sessions Messrs . Spiers and Pond succeeded in obtaining a licence , the magistrates very sensibly discriminating between a respectable refreshment room , as conducted by that firm , and an ordinary establishment .

last after a somewhat prolonged absence in Wales and Nottinghamshire . His lordship has just had a handsome memorial brass , bearing a suitable inscription , placed in Highclere Church over the remains of Charles Herbert , who was buried in Italy in 1635 , and whose body , sacrilegiously torn from its grave during the revolution , has just been recovered by the noble earl .

Drummond , of Maine , the Knights Templar in North America for the current year number 70 , 154 , as against 596 , 464 Master Masons . These figures show an increase on the last year both in respect ot the K . T . and M . M . ' s , and also in the percentage of the former to the latter , which stands 3111 * 76- * : as against 11 * 50 in 1 SS 5 . The actual increase in the United States is 192 S members , or 3 per cent ., while the increase in 1 S 85 was 4 } percent .

About a year since Bro . Lord Londesborough was accidentally struck by a ricochet shot in one of his eyes , the result being the loss of sight in the case of the eye affected , and latterly . signs of considerable weakness in the other . With a view to arresting this weakness , the ball of the injured eye has recently been removed , and the shot which was found imbedded in the flesh behind the

cheek removed , so that there is a good prospect now that his lordship ' s undamaged eye will be saved . About a year since Bro . Lord Londesborough was accidentally struck by a ricochet shot in one of his eyes , the result being the loss of sight in the case of the eye affected , and latterly . signs of considerable weakness in the other .
