The minutes of the previous meeting- were read and confirmed . A vote of congratulation was passed to Bro . R . VV . Forge on his promotion to Provincial Grand rank . Bro . F . F . Bonney , I . P . M ., thanked the brethren for the support rendered to him as Steward to the recent Mark Benevolent Fund Festival , and which was so highly successful . Apologies for non-attendance were received from Bros . George Everett , P . M ., P . S . G . D . ; VV . J . Porter , P . M . ; and others . The lodge was then closed , and a banquet followed . Upon the removal of the cloth the customary toasts received full justice .

Bro . J . T . Briggs responded on behalf of " Ihe Grand Officers " and Bo . VV . Thomas for " The Provincial Grand Officers . " The proceedings terminated at an early hour .

M . of the Past and Present Lodge , NQ . 2 ( 165 . was initiated into Freemasonry in 1 S 6 S ( 20 years ago ) in the Royal York Lodge , No . 315 , at Brighton , by his father , who was then W . M . He became W . M . in 1879 , and in 1 SS 5 , was elected Treasurer , which office he has held up to the present time . In 1 S 82 , he was appointed Provincial Grand Director of

Ceremonies for Sussex , which office he held for three years , and was afterwards appointed Provincial Junior Grand Warden . Bro . Hudson is a founder and P . M . of the Chaucer Lodge , No . 1540 , and a founder and P . M . of the Earl of Sussex Lodge , No . 2201 . He was exalted into Royal Arch Masonrj in 1 S 74 , in the Royal Pavilion Chapter , No . 315 , of which he is a P . Z . and Treasurer . Was a founder of the Chaucer Chapter , No . 1540 , and of the Metropolitan Chapter , No .

1507 , in both of which he has served as M . E . Z . In Mark Masonry , Bro . Hudson is a Past Grand Steward , Past Provincial Grand M . O . of Sussex , and has twice served the office of W . M . in the Southdown Lodge , No . 164 . He has from the time of his initiation been an ardent worker for the Charities , is a London representative on the Board of Management of the Boys' School , of which Institution he is a

Vice-President . He is also a Vice-President of the Benevolent Institution and Life Governor of the Girls' School , having served 16 Stewardships . It will be recollected that Bro . Hudson unsuccessfully contested the election of Grand Treasurer on two recent occasions , and will probably again be nominated for that office .

BRO . CHARLES FREDERICK HOGARD , P . G . STD . BR . Bro . Hogird , who for many years past has been a familiar figure in London Masonic circles , and who died very suddenly on the 4 th instant , was initiated in the Lodge of Israel , No . 205 , on the 26 th November , iS 6 j , and was elected and installed W . M . in 1 S 73 . In 1 S 77 he was appointed its Secretary , and retained the office , by successive annual appointments , until quite recently , when he resigned

and , in recognition of his services , was presented with a handsome testimonial . He joined the Chigwell Lodge , No . 453 , in 1869 , served as W . M . in 1874 . 5 , and in 1 S 75 was honoured with the appointment of Prov . G . S . of W . Essex . In March , 18 S 7 , he became a founder and first Secretary of the Highbury Lodge . No . 2192 , and the following year rendered material service in founding the Barnato Lodge , No . 2265 . He was exalted in Royal Arch Masonry in 1 S 70 ,

was a P . Z . of Faith Chapter , No . 141 , and Westminster and Keystone Chapter , No . 10 ; a founder of St . Thomas's Chapter , No . 142 , in 1 S 7 S ; M . E . Z . in 1881 ; and , on vacating the chair of First Principal , was elected Scribe E ., while in 1 SS 5 he was the principal founder and first M . E . Z . of the Israel Chapter , No . 205 . In both Craft and Royal Arch Masonry he held Grand Office , having , in 1887 , been appointed Past Grand

Std . Br . of Grand Lodge and Past Dep . G . D . C . in Supreme Grand Chapter . He had also won distinction in Mark Masonry , to which he was advanced in 1 S 73 in the Samson and Lion Lodge , No . 86 . In 18 S 0 he joined the Grosvenor Lodge , No . 144 , and for some years was its Secretary . He was also a founder and second W . M . of the Henniker Lodga , No . 315 , Grand Steward of Mark Grand Lodge in ISST , founder and Secretary of the Mark Grand Stewards' Lodge in 1884 , and

subsequently Grand Std . Br . He was also a Royal Royal Ark Manner , for many years Grand Recorder of the Order of Rome and the Red Cross of Constantine , and also a member of the Grand Councils of the Allied Degrees and Royal and Select Masters respectively . He took an active interest in the administration of our Charitable Institutions , and especially of the Boys' School , was a Vice-President of all three of them , and had served six Stewardships each for the Benevolent and Boys' School and five for the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls .

BRO . PROF . PETER LUND S 1 MMONDS , P . M ., P . Z . It is with very sincere regret we announce the death , on Monday , the 4 th instant , of Bro . Peter L . Simmonds , from injuries received through being knocked down and run over by an omnibus in the Gray ' s Inn-road . Bro . Simmonds , who had attained the ripe age of 83 years , had been a member of our Order for close upon half a century , having been initiated in the Yarborough Lodge No .

812—now No . 554—in July , 1848 . During his membership , which lasted eight years , he served as W . M . from 1851 to 1854 ; he was a member of Faith Lodge , No . 141 . being installed W . M . in 1853 , and during the same period was a member of Phunix Lodge , No . 173 . He was also a member—for 14 years—of the Dalhousie Lodge , No . 1159 , and served as W . M . in 18 7 6 , and Treasurer in 18789 . From iSSS to 1 S 94 , he was a member of the Savage Club Lodge , No . 2190 , joined the Lion

and Lamb Lodge , No . 192 , in 1 S 93 , and the Correspondence Circle of Lodge Quatuor Coronati , No . 2076 . In addition , he was , in 18 S 7 , affiliated to St . David Lodge , No . 133 , Tarbolton and Mauchline , under the Scottish Constitution . In Royal Arch Masonry , to which he was exalted on the 19 th October , 1854 . in the Yarborough Chapter , he was a P . Z . both of that and the Dilhousie Chapter , No . 1159 . He was advanced to the Mark , under the Scottish

Constitution , in No . 102 , Glasgow , in 1 S 55 , and four years later became a P . M . In 1 S 59 he was raised to the chair of No . 1 in London , joined St . Mark ' s Lodge , No . 1 , E . C , on the 4 th January , 18 7 6 , and served as W . M . in 1885 . He was also a Past Grand Steward and a supporter of the Mark Benevolent Fund and a Past W . C . N , in the Royal Ark Mariners Degree . He was perfected Rose Croix in February , 18 S 5 , in the Palestine Chapter , No . 29 , and installed a Knight

Templar in the Holy Palestine Preceptory in 1884 , but perhaps his greatest achievement in Masonry , at all events that by which he will be best remembered , and apart from his sterling qualities as a brother , most sincerely respected , was the compilation in 18 95 of an "Illustrated History of the St . Mark's Mark Lodge , No . I , London , " which was published by Bro , George Kenning , iG , Great Oueen-street , and to which Bro . W . I . Hughan , Past G . Mark Warden , wrote a

very elaborate introduction . The work was one which our late brother was especially qualified to write , as he was a Mark Mason before the constitution of our Grand Mark lodge , and belonged to both the English and Scottish Constitu-• tions . It was dedicated to the Earl of Euston , Pro G . Mark Master , and has been pronounced a most interesting and valuable history by all our most competent judges . We tender our sincere sympathy to the relatives and friends of our deceased brother .

C , on the 4 th January , 18 7 6 , and served as W . M . in 1885 . He was also a Past Grand Steward and a supporter of the Mark Benevolent Fund and a Past W . C . N , in the Royal Ark Mariners Degree . He was perfected Rose Croix in February , 18 S 5 , in the Palestine Chapter , No . 29 , and installed a Knight

Templar in the Holy Palestine Preceptory in 1884 , but perhaps his greatest achievement in Masonry , at all events that by which he will be best remembered , and apart from his sterling qualities as a brother , most sincerely respected , was the compilation in 18 95 of an "Illustrated History of the St . Mark's Mark Lodge , No . I , London , " which was published by Bro , George Kenning , iG , Great Oueen-street , and to which Bro . W . I . Hughan , Past G . Mark Warden , wrote a

very elaborate introduction . The work was one which our late brother was especially qualified to write , as he was a Mark Mason before the constitution of our Grand Mark lodge , and belonged to both the English and Scottish Constitu-• tions . It was dedicated to the Earl of Euston , Pro G . Mark Master , and has been pronounced a most interesting and valuable history by all our most competent judges . We tender our sincere sympathy to the relatives and friends of our deceased brother .
