During the intervals between the toasts several brethren exhibited their talents , vocal and otherwise , prominent among them being Bros . Duck and Gammon . The Organist of the lodtre , Bro . Sherwin , emulated Orpheus on his lute , not on the same instrument , but with the piano , both as an accompanist and solo player .

St . Mark's College Lodge ( No . 2157 ) . — -The fourth installation meeting of this lodge was held on Friday , the 25 th ult ., at the Holborn Restaurant . The lodge having been opened , Bro . J . Easterbrook was presented as VV . M . elect for installation . This ceremony was performed with great impressiveness by the W . M ., Bro . John O'Connell , P . G . O . Surrey , who , before the closing of the

lodge , received from the brethren a Past Master s jewel as a slight token of their esteem and regard for the admirable manner in which he had carried out the duties of the lodge during his year of office . Masonic child , said he had long been connected with St . Mark ' s College in an official capacity , and assured the lodge that the musical excellence of the college was fully maintained at the present time . An excellent programme of songs and glees , under the direction of Bro . the Rev . J . Henry Smith , was thoroughly enjoyed .

BIRMINGHAM . St , Paul ' s Lodge ( No . 43 ) . —The first meet-. ing of this lodge since May was held at the Masonic Hall , on Monday , the 2 Sth ult ., and in consequence there was a large gathering of brethren , including a number of visitors , amongst whom were Bros . Barwell , P . M ., avery old member of the lodge , Clarke , P . M ., and several others . The

Secretary , Bro . Hands , informed the brethren that he had been handed the old books of the lodge , which had a continuous record back to the year 1764 , also the seals belonging to the lodge . The Charity Steward moved that £ 20 be given out of the funds of the lodge to the two Schools , and there was also a collection made amongst the brethren , which resulted in 20 guineas being subscribed .

BOURNEMOUTH . Horsa Lodge ( No . 2208 ) . —On Monday , the 21 st ult ., there was a large gathering at the annual festival ' and installation in connection with this lodge at the Masonic Hall . duly received . The minutes of the last regular meeting , at which Bro . Pierrepont Harris was re-elected as VV . M ., having been read and confirmed , the D . P . G . M . took the chair and re-installed the W . M . At the close of the ceremony an installation anthem , composed for the occasion by Bro . John Northam , was sung under the direction of the composer . The solos were beautifully rendered by the

well-known VVest of England baritone , Bro . Montague Worlock , and it is sufficient to add that the singers of the choruses were chiefly members of the Bristol Orphans and Bristol Madrigal Societies . The composition was very much admired . The VV . M . then proceeded to appoint and invest his officers as follows : Bros . W . E . Parry , I . P . M . ; George Dowson , S . VV . ; Peter Allison , J . VV . ; VV . K .

Tyler . Bro . VV . E . Parry then , on behalf of the brethren , presented the VV . M . with an exceedingly handsome Past Master's jewel , made of iS-carat gold and beautifully chased , At the top of the ribbon was a bar with the word founder ,

and on the ribbon a shield with the arms and motto of the lodge in coloured enamel . Bro . Parry said that every mem berof the lodge had taken part in the provision of that present , which he hoped the VV . M . would wear in testimony of their appreciation of how much the successful starting and present prosperity of the lodge were due to his energy and ability and good work . Bro . Harold Lewis said he had

been requested to support the remarks of the previous speaker , and bore testimony to the minute attention which Bro . Harris gave every detail in connection with the work of the lodge . The W . M . suitably acknowledged the present . Two candidates for initiation , and five joining jnembers having been proposed , the lodge was closed , Bro . Farran Lambert's new march being played as the brethren left the

lodge-room . They then adjourned to the spacious new banqueting-hall on the ground floor of the building , where the installation supper was partaken of . The usual toast list was gone through , but the speeches were risridly condensed , as a very attractive programme of

music had been arranged . The glees were rendered by members of the Bristol Orphans and Bristol Madrigal Societies . The evening's proceedings furnished a rich musical treat , and it was generally agreed by the visitors that they had never been present at a more enjoyable or more successful Masonic gathering .

CAMBRIDGE . Isaac Newton University Lodge ( No . S 59 ) . —The first meeting of this lodge after the long vacation was held on Tuesday evening , the 29 th ult . The W . M ., Bro . VV . G . Bell , P . J . G . D ., was in the chair , and amongst the visitors were Bros , the Right Hon . the Earl of Hardwicke , P . G . M . ; A . H . Moyes , P . G . Std . Br ., England , D . P . G . M . ; Sir John Monckton , P . G . W .

England ; and others . The installation ceremony was admirably performed by Bro . VV . G . Bell , assisted by Bro . Sir John Monckton , and Bro . Hammett C Knott was cordially congratulated upon being placed in the chair of K . S . for the ensuing year . After the ceremonies the brethren adjourned to banquet when the customary loyal and Masonic toasts were duly given .

EASTBOURNE . Tyrian Lodge ( No . mo ) . —The installation meeting of the above lodge was held at the Gildridge Hotel , on Monday , 28 th ult . Lodge was opened by the W . M ., Bro . J . H . RIVERHEAD . Amherst Lodge ( No . 1223 ) . —An emergency meeting of this lodge was held on Saturday , the 2 nd instant , at the Amherst Arms Hotel , for the purpose of completing the good work begun upon three members , who otherwise must have waited—except for the kindness of another lodge —till next April . The VV . M ., Bro . A . H . Lee , opened the

lodge , assisted by Bros . Hamlin , S . W . ; F . P . Lee , J . W . ; D . T . Kent , S . D . ; Duret , P . M ., P . S . G . D ., acting as I . G . ; and the other Past Masters in attendance were Bros . VV . Sparrowhawk , I . P . M ., who acted as J . D . ; E . J . Dodd , P . P . G . O . ; and J . H . Jewel , P . P . G . R ., Sec . were Bros . Pollen , LL . D ., P . M . 767 , and VV . Drewett , P . M . SSg , VV . M . 1638 . Bro . G . Earner was passed to the Degree of F . C , and Bros . Mist , Gaskill , and Barringer were raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M . The ceremonies were worked in an able and impressive manner by the W . M ., who has had a very good vear of work .

Refreshment was afterwards partaken of , and nearly three hours most pleasantly spent together . Bro . Sparrowhawk , when proposing " The Health of the VV . M ., " referred to the efficient manner in which Bro . Lee had served the office during his occupancy of the chair , and specially mentioned his perfect rendering of the ceremony that afternoon .

The VV . M . thanked the brethren for their kind recognition of his efforts to maintain the prestige of the chair of the lodge , and then proposed " The Health of the Visitors . " The W . M . said that they did not expect any visiting brethren at that meeting , but he was sure they were heartily welcome , and especially because they were old friends . Bro . Pollen assured the W . M . that after his last visit to the

lodge , some three years ago , he went back to India with the most lively and pleasant recollection of the way in which he had been received by the brethren of the Amherst Lodge , for which he was indebted to his esteemed friend , Bro . Jewell . He should now be able to tell the brethren in Kurrachee , whither he was soon returning , that the reception given him at Riverhead was as hearty and cordial as ever .

Bro . Drewett also responded , and said that Ins experience of the Amherst Lodge now extended to installation , ordinary , and emergency meetings , and he could assure the brethren . that all were equally enjoyable , and also profitable to those who wanted to see how working should be done . The brethren soon afterwards separated , in the hope of all meeting again in the spring under the roof of Bro . Waller's comfortable and hospitable house .

WIGAN . Peace Lodge ( No . 2269 ) . —The brethren of the above lodge held their annual meeting at the Masonic Hall , King-street , on Thursday , the 31 st ult ., when Bro . J . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly proposed and received , and during the evening a glee party , under the direction of Bro . Margeson , entertained the brethren with a choice selection of glees and songs , rendered in an admirable manner .

Surrey , who , before the closing of the

St , Paul ' s Lodge ( No . 43 ) . —The first meet-. ing of this lodge since May was held at the Masonic Hall , on Monday , the 2 Sth ult ., and in consequence there was a large gathering of brethren , including a number of visitors , amongst whom were Bros . Barwell , P . M ., avery old member of the lodge , Clarke , P . M ., and several others . The

Secretary , Bro . Hands , informed the brethren that he had been handed the old books of the lodge , which had a continuous record back to the year 1764 , also the seals belonging to the lodge . The Charity Steward moved that £ 20 be given out of the funds of the lodge to the two Schools , and there was also a collection made amongst the brethren , which resulted in 20 guineas being subscribed .

M . took the chair and re-installed the W . M . At the close of the ceremony an installation anthem , composed for the occasion by Bro . John Northam , was sung under the direction of the composer . The solos were beautifully rendered by the

well-known VVest of England baritone , Bro . Montague Worlock , and it is sufficient to add that the singers of the choruses were chiefly members of the Bristol Orphans and Bristol Madrigal Societies . The composition was very much admired . M . with an exceedingly handsome Past Master's jewel , made of iS-carat gold and beautifully chased , At the top of the ribbon was a bar with the word founder ,

and on the ribbon a shield with the arms and motto of the lodge in coloured enamel . Bro . Parry said that every mem berof the lodge had taken part in the provision of that present , which he hoped the VV . M . would wear in testimony of their appreciation of how much the successful starting and present prosperity of the lodge were due to his energy and ability and good work . Bro . Harold Lewis said he had

been requested to support the remarks of the previous speaker , and bore testimony to the minute attention which Bro . Harris gave every detail in connection with the work of the lodge . The W . M . suitably acknowledged the present . Two candidates for initiation , and five joining jnembers having been proposed , the lodge was closed , Bro . Farran Lambert's new march being played as the brethren left the

lodge-room . They then adjourned to the spacious new banqueting-hall on the ground floor of the building , where the installation supper was partaken of . The usual toast list was gone through , but the speeches were risridly condensed , as a very attractive programme of

music had been arranged . The glees were rendered by members of the Bristol Orphans and Bristol Madrigal Societies . The evening's proceedings furnished a rich musical treat , and it was generally agreed by the visitors that they had never been present at a more enjoyable or more successful Masonic gathering .

CAMBRIDGE . Isaac Newton University Lodge ( No . S 59 ) . —The first meeting of this lodge after the long vacation was held on Tuesday evening , the 29 th ult . The W . M ., Bro . VV . G . Bell , P . J . G . D ., was in the chair , and amongst the visitors were Bros , the Right Hon . the Earl of Hardwicke , P . G . M . ; A . H . Moyes , P . G . Std . Br ., England , D . P . G . England ; and others . The installation ceremony was admirably performed by Bro . VV . G . Bell , assisted by Bro . Sir John Monckton , and Bro . Hammett C Knott was cordially congratulated upon being placed in the chair of K . S . for the ensuing year . After the ceremonies the brethren adjourned to banquet when the customary loyal and Masonic toasts were duly given .

Amherst Lodge ( No . 1223 ) . —An emergency meeting of this lodge was held on Saturday , the 2 nd instant , at the Amherst Arms Hotel , for the purpose of completing the good work begun upon three members , who otherwise must have waited—except for the kindness of another lodge —till next April . Mist , Gaskill , and Barringer were raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M . The ceremonies were worked in an able and impressive manner by the W . M ., who has had a very good vear of work .

Refreshment was afterwards partaken of , and nearly three hours most pleasantly spent together . Bro . Sparrowhawk , when proposing " The Health of the VV . M ., " referred to the efficient manner in which Bro . Lee had served the office during his occupancy of the chair , and specially mentioned his perfect rendering of the ceremony that afternoon .

The VV . M . thanked the brethren for their kind recognition of his efforts to maintain the prestige of the chair of the lodge , and then proposed " The Health of the Visitors . " The W . M . said that they did not expect any visiting brethren at that meeting , but he was sure they were heartily welcome , and especially because they were old friends . Bro . Pollen assured the W . M . that after his last visit to the

lodge , some three years ago , he went back to India with the most lively and pleasant recollection of the way in which he had been received by the brethren of the Amherst Lodge , for which he was indebted to his esteemed friend , Bro . Jewell . He should now be able to tell the brethren in Kurrachee , whither he was soon returning , that the reception given him at Riverhead was as hearty and cordial as ever .

Bro . Drewett also responded , and said that Ins experience of the Amherst Lodge now extended to installation , ordinary , and emergency meetings , and he could assure the brethren . that all were equally enjoyable , and also profitable to those who wanted to see how working should be done . The brethren soon afterwards separated , in the hope of all meeting again in the spring under the roof of Bro . Waller's comfortable and hospitable house .
