Next year might possibly witness the successful opening of the new Masonic Temple in Newcastle , which he trusted would long be of practical use to and be a lasting monument to the enterprise of the Masons of the Province of Northumberland . At the close of the ordinary business ,

Bro . Alderman R . H . HOLMES , D . P . G . Volunteer Band playing Masonic tunes , wended its way to St . Michael ' s Church . It was generally conceded that the procession was the most imposing that had taken place at Workington for some years , and reminded one of the magnificent one held at Whitehaven when Prov . Grand Lodge met there about seven years ago .

A very practical and forcible sermon was ably preached by the Prov . Grand Chaplain , Bro . the Rev . J . W . HARTI . EV , ififio , who took his text from St . Luke , 19 th chapter , verges 1 and 2 . The collection , as usual , was devoted to the Masonic Charities .

Masonic Presentation At Okehampton.

MASONIC PRESENTATION AT OKEHAMPTON .

At the regular meeting of the brethren of the Obedience Lodge , No . 1 753 , OK-ehampton , held at the White Hart Hotel , on Monday , the 2 Sth ult ., Bro . Charles Pipei , I . P . M ., was presented with a handsome Past Master ' s jewel in gold and an illuminated address , chastely framed , in recognition of his services to tiie lodge and as a token of appreciation of the manner in which he filled the chair which he had just vacated . The address was as follows : " Presented to W . Bro .

Charles Piper , I . P . M ., with a Past Master ' s Jewel , October 2 Sth , 1 S 95 , by brethren of Lodge Obedience , 1753 , Okehampton , in recognition of valuable services rendered to the lodge , and as a token of their fratern il estiem , regard and affection , with the earnest hope that the Great Architect of the Universe may long sustain him to be an ornament to the Craft , and that he may be blessed with health , happiness , and prosperity—Signed , W . P . Moon , W . M . ; G . J . Gibson , Sec . " Bro . Gibson stated that such an event was unique in the history of the lodge ,

and as they had always determined not to use the funds of the lodge for the purchase of Past Master ' s jewels , and had never given any before , il would be more gratifying to the recipient to know that it had been liberally subscribed to by thc members . As Treasurer to the Committee , it was his pleasant duty to ask the W . M . to make the presentation , which they would be glad to know was being appropriately made on the aniversary of Bro . Piper ' s initiation , he having been initiated on the 28 th October , 1 SS 9—exactly six years ago that day and hour .

Bro . MOON , W . M ., expressed the pleasure it gave him to make the presentation , and lo have had the opportunity of showing the appreciation in which Bro . Piper was held . Prior to the Worshipful Master performing the ceremony , a vote of thanks was accorded to Bro . Piper , which was moved by Bro . EDWARDS , J . W . ; seconded by Bro . GKKCOKY , P . M . ; and supported by Bro . YHO , P . M .. P . P . A . G . S ., on behalf of the Past Masters of the lodge , and by Bro . H . ROWK , Stwd ., and Bro . J .

TAVEKNKH . The gift was feelingly acknowledged by Bro . PirKK , who said it was a very pleasant anniversary to him . The idea of the presentation had from the first taken him with much surprise , but their kindness , generosity , and affection would never be effaced from his memory , and he trusted that the friendship which

had been built up in that lodge towards him he should ever continue to deserve . He was assured that Freemasonry was doing a great and benevolent work , and lit felt the lodge had been extremely indulgent to him in the manner in which they had supported him and his rapid rise to the honourable position of Worship hil Master .

There was a large attendance of brethren , who afterwards dined together at Bro . Verdi's White Hart Hotel , when several Masonic and complimentary toasts were given and heartily responded to .
