Masonic Notes .

It is always pleasant to chronicle educational sue cesses in the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls . The report has just been issued of the result of the Associated Board of the Royal College and the Royal

Masonic Notes.

Academy of Music School Examination , and it appears that , nine girls having entered , the whole of them passed , and of these two are specially credited with " Distinction . " A most gratifying result to Miss Davis and to all concerned .

* » The Quarterly Convocation of Supreme Grand Chapter was held at Freemasons' Hall , on Wednesday , the 6 th instant , under the presidency of Comp . W . W . B . Beach , G . J ., as Grand '/ .. A report of thc proceedings—of which we gave the programme last week—will be found in another part of our columns .

* * * We have been requested to announce that the Lake Testimonial Fund will be closed at thc end of the year . It was inaugurated in the month of June last , with a view to presenting a testimonial to Bro . William

Lake , lately Editor of this journal , and now Assistant Grand Secretary , in recognition of his valuable services to the Craft generally , 3 nd the kindness and courtesy he invariably exhibited towards all who were brought into contact with him in his editorial capacity .

* Personal donations to the Fund must not exceed a maximum of one guinea , but it is open to lodges and other Masonic Bodies to follow the example recently set by the Cricklewood Lodge , as reported in our columns , and vote good round sums . We would add

that donations should either be remitted to Bro . James Stephens , Honorary Secretary of the Fund , " Elads , " Maida Vale , London , W ., or paid direct to the " Lake Testimonial Fund , " London and Provincial Bank , Edgware-road , W . We trust that when

the time comes round for us to make known the result , it will be our privilege to announce that such a total has been received as will allow of the Committee presenting a handsome gift to Bro . Lake , and one in every way worthy of his great services , both general and particular .

# * * We call our readers' attention to a paragraph in our "Tidings" columns , from which it will be seen that a " Masonic Vagrant , " who was recently brought before Alderman Bell , at the Guildhall Police Court for

attempting to obtain money of Brother Freemasons under false pretences , and who was shown to have been previously convicted of a somewhat similar offence , has been promptly sentenced to three months ' hard labour .

The stated meeting of Quatuor Coronati Lodge , No . 2076 , will be held at Freemasons' Hall this ( Friday ) afternoon at 5 p . m ., when , in the course of the proceedings , Bro . Edward Macbean , W . M . elect , will be installed in office and the officers for the ensuing year appointed and invested . Subsequently Bro .

Macbean will deliver his inaugural address , and Bro . E . ] . Barron , F . S . A ., will read a paper entitled " Death , the Freemason . " When the lodge has been closed , the brethren will adjourn for dinner to the Holborn Restaurant . * * *

A new lodge , under the style and title of thc Crouch End Lodge , No . 2580 , was consecrated at thc Gate House , Highgatc , on Thursday , the 7 th instant . The ceremony was performed by the Grand Secretary , who was assisted by Bros . Lennox Browne , P . D . G . C , and J . S . Cumberland , Dep . G . S . B ., as S . W . and J . W ., respectively ; Bro . the Rev . J . S . Brownrigg , P . G . C , as

Chaplain ; Bro . F . Richardson , P . G . D ., as D . C . ; and Bro . W . G . Crump , P . G . Stwd ., as I . G . Bro . G . S . Gerrish was afterwards installed as W . M ., and the officers having been appointed and lodge closed , the customary banquet followed . Everything passed off most successfully , and a full report of the proceedings will appear next week .

* ? Some time since we had the pleasure of announcing that Bro . the Earl of Yarborough , Prov . Grand Master of Lincolnshire , had undertaken to preside at the Anniversary Festival which will be held in behalf of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls in May , 1896 .

We are glad to announce that in view of this arrangement the brethren of the Isle of Axholme Lodge , No . 1482 , Crowle , have commenced preparations for holding a grand bazaar in aid of our senior Charity on the 18 th December and following days , in the Crowle Market Hall , and as it will be held under the patronage

of such prominent Lincolnshire Masons as Bros , the Earl of Yarborough , P . G . M . j W . H . Sissons , J . P ., Dep . P . G . M . ( and Grand Superintendent R . A . ) ; B , Vickers , Prov . G . Sec ; and Jack Sutcliffe , P . P . G . M , ( Mark ) , we have every confidence that it will prove successful .
