never had a wry word vvith any brother of the Lewis Lodge . I remember distinctly when I was initiated by Bro . Powell together vvith the S . W . and J . " The
appreciative remarks of the I . P . M . lead me to think that that dav has no yet dawned . The W . M . said : It is novv my proud privilege to propose to you the toast of "The I . P . M . G . A . O . T . U . vvill give him many years of

M . and Brethren , —I appreciate to the full the compliment you have paid me in drinking my health so heartily and presenting me vvith this jewel . I shall wear it vvith pride for two reasons—one is that 1 feel sure that not only is it an expression of appreciation of my work during the past year , it is the outcome of the brotherly feeling
vvhich exists between myself and every brother of the lodge . The other is the consciousness that I have filled every office in the lodge . Bro . Usherwood , in proposing the toast of " The Initiates , " said he vvas very pleased to have to propose the health of a brother who , he was sure , would prove a credit to the Lewis Lodge . The seriousness with vvhich they had taken the First Degree convinced him that they possessed
the qualities of a good Free and Accepted Mason . The toast vvas cordially received , and , in reply , Bro . Jackson said : I suppose there comes a time in every man ' s life when he realises the truth of the old proverb" Speech is silver , but silence is golden . " Now , that is my experience at the present time . I would far rather have the golden portion ; but I have learned that oDedience is one of the first lavvsof Freemasonry , and , as the W . When a member of my profession rises to speak , his hearers generally settle themselves down to a firstly , secon My , thirdly , and fourthly application , but to-night I shall confine myself to two points . In the first place , I have been particularly struck with the decorum and solemnity vvith vvhich
the ceremony through vvhich I have passed to-night has been conducted . Then , again , the Craft has a reputation for genuine Brotherhood , vvhich certainly appears to exist in the Lewis Lodge . 1 am pleased to become identified vvith the Fraternity , and thank you for admitting me a member of your lodge .
