The annual installation meeting of the members of the Skelmersdale Lodge , No . 13 S 0 ( of which Bro . the Rt . Hon . the Earl of Lathom , D . G . M ., Prov . G . M ., was the first Master ) took place last Monday afternoon , the 5 th inst ., at Seafield House , near Liverpool , when Bro . F . Smitton was placed in the chair . Bro . H . B . Marshall , C . C ., was on Saturday last installed as the Worshipful Master of the Brixton Lodge , No . 1949 . This being a new lodge in the second year of its existence it was determined by the brethren instead of having the customary installation banquet , to constitute the Brixton Lodge a Vice-Patron of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution .
Bro . Dr . B . W . Richardson , F . R . S ., presided at a meeting of the Rational Dress Society , held on Tuesday at the Steinway Hall , Lower Seymour-street , which was largely attended by ladies . A paper on rational dress by Mrs . Lynch was read by Miss Barnet .

The London Cottage Mission had a regular " field-day" on Wednesday , the new hall just erected being used for the first time , and though the fittings were anything but complete , yet Mr . Austin and Miss Napton managed matters so well that not a word of complaint did we hear from anyone of over a thousand hungry little souls who had ; a substantial dinner of Irish stew , their happy
faces a strong contrast to the expression they bore a fortnight ago no welcome meal awaited them—a day still looked back upon as " Black Wednesday" in Stepney and Limehouse . Here is truly a case for practical benevolence ; and sincerely we trust that last Wednesday will prove the first of many coming ones at 6 7 , Salmon's-lane , Limehouse , on which the steaming coppers

P ., who is Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fisheries Exhibition , drew attention to a recent statement by the Duke of Edinburgh to the effect that the Queen , if her engagements permitted , would open the exhibition , and expressed a hope in which all must heartily join that her Majesty may be able to take so prominent a part in the opening ceremonial .

The London Cottage Mission had a regular " field-day" on Wednesday , the new hall just erected being used for the first time , and though the fittings were anything but complete , yet Mr . Austin and Miss Napton managed matters so well that not a word of complaint did we hear from anyone of over a thousand hungry little souls who had ; a substantial dinner of Irish stew , their happy
faces a strong contrast to the expression they bore a fortnight ago no welcome meal awaited them—a day still looked back upon as " Black Wednesday" in Stepney and Limehouse . Here is truly a case for practical benevolence ; and sincerely we trust that last Wednesday will prove the first of many coming ones at 6 7 , Salmon's-lane , Limehouse , on which the steaming coppers

Blanchard Jerrold , will be published in England .
The Vice-Chancellor and heads of colleges of Cambridge University have forbidden the production of stage plays during term time . Memorials have been numerously signed against the edict of the University authorities , and it was expected that the Town Council would take some action in the matter at its meeting on Thursday .

P ., who is Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fisheries Exhibition , drew attention to a recent statement by the Duke of Edinburgh to the effect that the Queen , if her engagements permitted , would open the exhibition , and expressed a hope in which all must heartily join that her Majesty may be able to take so prominent a part in the opening ceremonial .
