PREMIER CONCLAVE ( No . 1 ) . —The March meeting of the above conclave was held at the Masonic Rooms , 16 a , Great Queen-street , on Monday . Present : Sir Knights J . Mason , G . J . General , M . P . S . ; H . J . Lardner , Eusebius ; T . C . Walls , P . S . ; George Powell , P . S . ; J . C . Marsh , P . S . ; H . H . Shirley , P . S ., Sec ; George Kenning , P . S . ; T . Cubitt , P . S ., Treas . ; E . H . Thiellay ,

P . S . ; Dr . Mickley , P . S . ; Robinson , Harris , and others . The minutes of the last conclave were read and confirmed . Sir Knight H . J . Lardner was unanimously elected M . P . S ., and Sir Knight T . Cubitt , Treas ., for the ensuing

year . It was proposed , seconded , and cariied unanimously , that a P . S . jewel be presented to Sir Knight J . Mason , in recognition of his valuable services during the past year . The conclave was then closed . The annual assembly of the Grand Imperial Conclave vvas then held , a full report of vvhich will appear in our next

issue . The sir knights dined together under the genial chairmanship of Sir Knight Mason . The long list of toasts received full justice . Sir Knights Powell , Woodman , and Geo . Kenning responded on behalf of "The Grand Council , " and Sir Knights Lardner and Shirley for " The Grand Senate . "

Sir Knight Mickley proposed " The Health of the M . P . S . " in fluent terms . The M . P . S ., in reply , among other things , congratulated the conclave upon its happy and prosperous condition . It was fortunate in possessing members holding not only distinguished position in Masonry , but excellent exponents of most intricate rituals . In conclusion he said

that he was exceedingly gratified in having held the position of M . P . S . in so good a conclave . "The Past Sovereigns" followed , and vvas acknowledged by Sir Knight Mickley . " The Treasurer and Recorder " came next in order , and was replied to by Sir Knights Cubitt and Shirley . In proposing " The M . P . S . elect , " the M . P . S . paid a

high compliment to Sir Knight H . J . Lardner , pronouncing him to be one of the bast all round workers in the Metropolis . He felt confident that under his control the conclave would flourish exceedingly . Sir Knight Lardner having replied , the toast of " The Visitors , " coupled with the name of Sir Knight CF . Hogard , Grand Recorder , followed .

Sir Knight Hogard , in a speech of some length , paid a very flattering compliment to the Premier Conclave . He said that thanks to many of its members the Order had progressed greatly . He agreed with the Most Puissant Sovereign that the Premier Conclave had some excellent workers who appeared to be indefatigable in all works of Masonry . The Grand Conclave was under obligations to the conclave by their being able to banquet under its

banner year after year . This was a great advantage because of the limited number of Sir Knights who elected to banquet at the annual gathering of the Grand Conclave . In conclusion he congratulated the Premier upon having elected that day so good a Mason to preside over them in the ensuing year as Sir Knight H . J . Lardner . The toast of " The Officers " terminated the proceedings vvhich were throughout most enjoyable .

A . Farnfield having been severally proposed for Chairman , a show of hands was taken and declared to be in favour of the former , and Bro . Roebuck , after a scene of great turbulence , took his seat as president of the meeting . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and verified , after a futile objection to the wording of one

paragraph , and those of the House Committee read for information , two applications for grants towards outfit by ex-pupils were considered , and in the result one was entertained and the other deferred . Bro . A . F . GODSON then rose and explained that though a member of the House Committee he had been prevented by indisposition and other circumstances from attending its

later meetings , and had therefore taken no part in the proceedings which were about to become the subject of discussion . Under those circumstances , he appealed to the brethren who had given notice of their intention to bring forward certain motions bearing , directly or indirectly , on the case of the boy William Gideon Motion to letbyegones be byegones , both for the boy ' s sake and the sake of the

Institution , in whose welfare all present must take an interest . But the kindly appeal was not listened to , ancl Bro . ANDRF . W MOTION , having declared his intention of withdrawing all but the second motion on the notice paper , moved " That an immediate enquiry be held by the Life ; Governors of this Institution respecting the wrong done to

William Gideon Motion , " a further clause which had been included in the original motion , but had nothing whatever to do with the proposition , being struck out by order of the Chair . Bro . Motion argued that his brother , W . G . Motion , was not guilty of the principal offences alleg-ec ] against him , and that what he had done did not merit the punishment dealt out to him , and he urged the Committee

to grant the enquiry prayed for . Bro . J AMES MOTION seconded the proposition , and then ensued a most unseemly wrangle , during vvhich it was very difficult for the successive speakers to make themselves heard * . It was pointed out , however , that the insertion in the motion of the words "the wrong done" was tantamount to an admission that the act of the House

Committee in punishing the boy was worthy of censure , and sundry suggestions were * offered with a view to amending the language , but in the end the motion , as worded above , was put , and on a division being called for , was rejected by 58 votes to 38 votes . The proceedings , which had been most disorderl y throughout , shortly afterwards terminated .

The _ following is the result of the Cambridge Local Examinations in December last , so far as the candidates from the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys are concerned :

JUNIORS . HONOURS . Second Class . 1 Tettenborn , A . J . | 2 Wilson , G . Third Class , 3 Windross , J . B . 16 Crabb , J . W . 4 . Blunt , A . 7 High , A . H . 5 Lewis , J . VV . I 8 Herring , J . A . Satisfied the Examiners .

a Sykes , R . A . I 11 Clerk , W . E . 10 Crow , C . J . I 12 Piatt , E . T . Thirteen candidates sent up ; twelve passed . Honours , eight , " satisfied Examiners , four . RICHARD MORRIS , M . A ., LL . D ., - Gth March , 188 S . Head Master .

With reference to the above list , it should be pointed out that the studies were seriously interfered with by the outbreak of scarlet fever , and also that the most advanced pupil—Templeman , J . P . G . —was withdrawn after his name had been sent in .

The Boys' School Football Club.

THE BOYS' SCHOOL FOOTBALL CLUB .

During the present term five enjoyable matches have been played under Association Rules , and taking into consideration that Football has not been made a scientific game before , the following results seem satisfactory . First eleven R . M . I . B . v . Clapham Olympians , played on the School ground , R . M . I . B . winning by three goals to one .

Second eleven R . M . I . B . v . Second eleven Bruce Castle School , Tottenham , played on the School ground , each side scoring two goals . First eleven R . M . I . B . v . First eleven Bruce Castle . The Bruce Castle team is a very strong one , and had the advantage of playing on their own ground . They won the game by five goals to one . First eleven R . M . I . B . v . Old Boys ( February 25 th ) . This was the most interesting match of the term , and was

a source of great amusement to the onlookers . There had been a sharp frost during the previous night , and , as a consequence , the ground was in a slippery condition , so that when a member of either side came in contact vvith an opponent , a roll over vvas always looked for by the spectators . R . M . I . B . won by eight goals to nil . The First eleven team is composed of six masters , Messrs . Armfield , Beanland , Oliver , Pritchard , Partington ( captain ) , and five boys , Piatt , Christensen , Wilson , High , and Nichols .

Second eleven team , all boys . Piatt ( captain ) , High , Chiistensen , Wilson , Nichols , March , Hare , Templeman , Lewis , Richardson , and Beaumont . Second eleven Bruce Castle , v . Second eleven R . M . I . B . Played on the School ground on Wednesday , the 29 th ult . Bruce Castle winning by three goals to one .

THE SAVAGE CLUB LODGE , No . 2190 , AND THE ROYAL SILVER WEDDING .

At the regular meeting of this young lodge on Tuesday last , it was proposed by the W . M . ( Sir J . R . Somers Vine ) , seconded by Bro . THOMAS CATLING , S . W ., and unanimously approved by the brethren present— " That the respectful and fraternal thanks of the members be conveyed to the M . W . G . M . for the signal honour shown by his Royal Highness to the Savage Club Lodge in entrusting

to the care of the members for all time the Master ' s gavel used by her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria in laying the foundation-stone of the Imperial Institute as the National Jubilee Memorial of her Majesty's reign . " It was resolved vvith acclamation— " That the members

of the Savage Club Lodge , No . 2100 , duly appreciating the high privilege of being permitted to number the M . W . G . M . in their ranks , desire to offer their respectful , cordial , and fraternal felicitations to his Royal Highness and to the Princess of Wales upon the approaching celebration of their Silver Wedding day . kindness , and would endeavour to come and look after them once in each year , but he could not promise them more . The greatest inducement for him to come would be when they had good and worthy candidates for their beautiful Christian Degree . Business over , the chapter was closed .
