Masonic Notes .

Great Queen-street on Wednesday afternoon presented a most animated appearance . Carriages and cabs came along in an unbroken procession and deposited their occupants at the doors of Freemasons' Hall-Inside was what could only be described as a surging crowd , numbe ring throughout the afternoon over 300 ° and from the excitement and interest exhibited it was

difficult to believe that the occasion of all this was not a grave constitutional crisis in the history of Free masonry . # # # But it was not—the three thousand true and trusty brethren , all either Past Masters , Masters , or Warden * of lodges , had congregated from all parts of the

country to decide the question as to who should fill t " honourable but not very onerous office of Grand Treasurer lor the year . In April next something lilie : 1 score of brethren will be quietly appointed to theirseveral posts , all equally honourable , some hig l | er '

some lower , in rank , without much more than a passing comment , or possibly a word of congratulation from a friend . We can only account for the contrast by the fact thai an Englishman dearly loves a fig ht , - does not lose his relish for il by becoming a M » s ° "
