Princess Beatrice opened a very pretty bazaar at the Portman Rooms , on Tuesday , in aid of the Samaritan Free Hospital for Women and Children . Her Royal Highness was received by Bro . The new building in course of erection by the Telegraph Office in St . Martin's-le-Grand , to meet the increasing expansion of the Post Office business , was designed by Mr . Henry Tanner , of H . M . Office of Works , and , when completed , will form one of the handsomest buildings in the metropolis . Sixteen months have been already spent in laying the foundations and bringing the walls up to the
street level , and three years will be yet required to finish it . The building will then cover an acre of ground . The Citizen says that the Lord Chancellor will re-open the Commission of the Peace of the Borough of Reigate for the purpose of inscribing thereon the name of Bro . Manville Fenn , made so great a hit with "The Balloon " and "The Barrister , " and who , more recently , has scored " off his own bat" with a comedy called "Wanted , a Wife , " soon to be seen in London , has made another conspicuous success with a three-act farce called "The Solicitor , " performed for the first time on Monday at the Court Theatre , Liverpool . in praising the ingenuity and humour of the work , and a Liverpool correspondent says that the laughter engendered by " The Solicitor " reminds him of nothing so much as the cachinnation that used to be aroused by " The Guv'nor . The death is announced of Mr . James Carlyle , formerly of Scotsburg , the last surviving brother of Thomas Carlyle .
