THEALEXANDRIACIGARETTECO.'S NEW BEAND . DRAGOUMIS. PREPARED OF THE PUREST TURKISH TOBACCOS . The highest classes of tobacco , however , are converted into the well-known " Dragoumis , " for which , the Alexandria Cigarette Company have gained a deservedly high reputation , and we have no hesitation in saying , after a practical test so far as our taste and judgment permit , that they are superior to any we have yet tried , either imported or otherwise . — Whitehall Review . Their latest brand , " Dragoumis , " made of a skilful blend of fine Egyptian tobaccos , is full of flavour , yet delicately fragrant enough to please the most fastidious palate . We shall be surprised if " Dragoumis " do not prove the cigarette of the season . —Pump Court .

Bro . J . A . BIRCH—We do not see our way clear to publishing the correspondence you send without the consent of the writers of the respective letters . —ED . F . M . ~] A PAST MASTER . —We are very grieved to hear of the particulars forwarded , and cannot understand how the Master of a lodge under the English Constitutions ( in one
of our Colonies ) could permit an assault to be committed in the ante-room " under his own eye , " and take no part to stay the proceedings , which are of a disgraceful character from beginning to end . The plaintiff was justified in bringing the matter before a court of law , seeing that his fraternal offer to accept an apology was deferred too late to stay proceedings in the initial stage . Should the
members be so ill-advised as to vote for the permanent exclusion of the injured brother from the lodge because he thus sought to obtain the only means of redress in his power , all he has to do is to lay the matter before the District Grand Master , and , failing action by the local authorities , he may be sure th it the Board of General Purposes would make short work of any such action by the lodge on due report being made . —ED . EXPULSION OF A SCOTTISH BROTHER . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , It fortunately happens that the Masonic press has never before had to chronicle so unjust a decision and so harsh a sentence as that in the case of Bro . William Edwards , who was expelled by a majority of the Grand
Lodge of Scotland , headed by the Grand Master , for a mere technical misdemeanour . The facts of the case are as follows : The Celtic Lodge of Edinburgh , desirous of paying respect to the memory of one of their oldest and most revered Past Masters , Bro . Alexander Hay , resolved on holding the American innovation , called " A Lodge of Sorrow , " which consists of copious extracts
from the Burial Service , responses by a choir , funeral hymns , and orations and eulogia on the departed brother . The ritual was prepared and prin ted , and , as it all appeared in the Edinburgh papers the next day , there could not have been much "secret" about it . The oration on the life of Bro . Hay was announced to be given by Bro . William Mann , P . S . G . W ., one of the oldest friends of
the family , and it was for allowing our late Bro . Hay ' s two daughters to hear this oration from the organ loft that subjected Bro . Edwards to the most extreme penalty of the Craft . There was no secret of Masonry revealed , there was nothing in the whole of the proceedings which could not have been witnessed by the world at large , and the ladies who heard their dead father ' s memory spoken of in
terms of affection and esteem did not learn so much of the so-called secrets of the Order as the ladies at the Centenary Festival of the Girls' School , who saw and heard H . R . H . the Grand Master lead the "fire . " I do hope that even yet the Grand Lodge of Scotland may be induced to listen to reason , and reverse a decision and sentence which should never be inflicted save for the gravest
possible offence . Bro . Edwards was undoubtedly guilty of an error of judgment , and might be punished by fine or suspension for a year ; but some regard should be shown to his eminent services , especially to the Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter , of which he has been the G . S . E . for many years . —Yours fraternally , A PAST GRAND OFFICER .
MASONIC JURISPRUDENCE . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , I am delighted to notice your intention of issuing periodically in the columns of the Freemason a series of articles on Masonic Jurisprudence . Valuing , as most of
us do , Oliver's Jurisprudence , as a synopsis of Masonic law , it has , in many instances , nevertheless , become obso * lete and unsuited to the requirements of the present day , and I trust that this latest evidence of your enterprise will meet with the substantial and fraternal encouragement it
deserves . I need scarcely add that you may rely on my hearty cooperation in this distant part of the world , where , bythebye , a new work on Jurisprudence will be eminently useful . —Very fraternally yours , y W . F . LAMONBY ' Masonic Club , Melbourne , September 21 st .
