Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

choral , and splendidly rendered . The report of a Committee on the catering of , and for the lodge was presented , and adopted , and the lodge was closed . An excellent and well served dinner having been discussed , the usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts were honoured . That of "Earl AmherstP . G . M . of the Province of

, Kent , " was followed by "The D . P . G . M ., Bro . Eastes , and the rest of the P . G . Officers , Present and Past , " and was coupled with the names of Bros . Butter and Penfold , who , with Bro . Spinks , severally returned thanks . Bro . Lawson , I . P . M ., in proposing the toast of "The W . M ., " said he had much pride and pleasure in standing up that evening as I . P . M . of that lodge to propose that

which was certainly a most important toast , the toast of the evening in fact ; that of their esteemed W . M . The faultless manner in which he had worked the First and Second Degrees that evening when , for the first time , he occupied the chair was simply marvelous , and augured well for the perfect working of the ritual during the ensuing 12 months under his rule and guidance . There could be no

doubt that it was the result of much thouget and study , and was a credit to him and an honour to the lodge . He felt sure thet they would strenuously support Bro . Keeble , because of his marked ability and unvaried courtesy , and asked them to drink the toast with a right good fire . The W . M ., in response , said his health had been proposed in a most eloquent manner , and most heartily

responded to . The I . P . M . had told them that he ( the W . M . ) had , by his work that evening , given them a great amount of satisfaction . Well , he was not ashamed to say that he fully appreciated the responsibilities entailed with the position of Master of such a lodge as the PattisOn ; responsibilities that made him feel rather nervous of the idea of working the ritual after the excellent Masons who

had preceded him , and before such keen critics as were present that evening . He could only say that if he had given them satisfaction , that was his reward . He had a great deal to do and the m-ans to do it . He trusted there would not be a single hitch , but that they would work together with that love and harmony which should at all times and did commend itself to Freemasonry .

Bro . Hobson , in responding for " The Visitors , " said that he attended the Pattison Lodge so often , that he felt more like a member of it than a visitor . The reason was there were so many excellent Masons and gentlemen in it and attending it , that if he wished to fraternise with them he must attend the Pattison Lodge . Of course , one had to limit his desires by their opportunities , but he felt it

hard to limit his desire to attend that lodge , and so when the opportunity presented itself he took it , and hoped to do so for many years to come . He always enjoyed himself when he attended the lodge , and it was exceedingly pleasant and gratifying to see how every brother of it tried to ensure the comfort of the visitors . Some of the oldest and most distinguished Past Masters put on aprons and waited upon

them at supper , if not quite so dexterously , certainly more anxiously and courteously than any amount of ordinary waiters could do , showing that nothing gave them so much pleasure as to see that the visitors were cared for and made at home at once . He paid a high compliment to the W . M . for his admirable working , and concluded by ^ warmly thanking the lodge for its hospitality .

Bros . King and Chasteaneuf also responded ; and after "The Past Masters , " " The Initiate , " and " The Officers " had been toasted , the Tyler ' s toast concluded the business and pleasures of the evening . Some splendid singing by Bro . Batchelor , Clifton , Hammond , and Hobson , and a grandly rendered violin solo by Bro . Horton added materially to the enjoyment .

EASTBOURNE . —Tyrian Lodge ( No . mo ) . —The annual meeting of this lodge was held at the Gildredge Hotel , on Monday , the 29 th ult ., when Bro . J . H . Wright was duly installed as W . HALSTEAD . — Joshua Nunn Lodge ( No . 2154 ) - —Visit of Lord Brooke , P . G . M—On Tuesday , the 30 th ult ., there was a very large gathering of Freemasons to witness the installation of Bro . Mark Gentry , S . D . 16 72 , as W . M . of the above lodge , and the interest in the proceedings was much enhanced by the fact that Lord Brooke , Prov . Grand Master of Essex , had

promise dto be present . His lordship reached Halstead , from Faston Lodge , Dunmow , between 2 and 3 o'clock , and , having been escorted to the lodge room with the customary honours , witnessed the initiation of two new members , the ceremony being faultlessly performed by the W . M ., Bro . Vero W . Taylor , P . M . 1312 , P . P . S . G . W . At its conclusion , Bro . Taylor proceeded to instal his

successor ( Bro . Mark Gentry ) in a manner that called forth the commendations of all present . The officers for the year were appointed and invested as follows : Bros . T . I . Cavil ] , P . M . 1312 , P . P . G . D ., S . W . ; R . G . Kellett , P M . 1312 , P . P . G . Std . Br ., J . W . ; Vero W . Taylor , P . M . 1312 , P . P . S . G . W ., I . P . M . and Treas . ; E . H . Inman ,

' At the conclusion of the ceremony , Lord Brooke , who was loudly applauded , said it gave him very great pleasure to be present at the installation meeting of this very young lodge , though those feelings were somewhat mingled with sadness when he recollected

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

that at the formation of the lodge he was asked by the very worthy brother after whom it was named to come and perform the consecration ceremony , and it had ever been a matter of regret that at the last moment he was prevented from coming . The lodge had suffered considerable drawback by the death of Bro . Joshua Munn , so soon after the launching of the lodge ; but in the hands of those who

had been carrying on the work of the lodge , and those who were following on , he ( Lord Brooke ) had no doubt but that it would prosper and become a most useful one in the province . In conclusion , Lord Brooke congratulated Bro . Vero Taylor upon the excellent way in which he had conducted the ceremonies of the day , and wished Bro . Mark Gentry a happy and successful year of office .

The Worshipful Master , on behalf of the lodge , thanked Lord Brooke for his kind words , and also for his courtesy in visiting their little lodge . They had , as his lordship had remarked , felt very much the loss of Bro . J oshua Nunn , and out of respect for his memory did not admit any new members for 12 months . But brethren were now joining them , and new candidates coming forward , so that he had no doubt in time their ' s would be one of not the least

successful lodges in his lordship ' s province . The Worshipful Master , in the name of the lodge , presented a valuable P . M . 's jewel to the retiring VV . M ., Bro . Vero Taylor , who , in acknowledging it , said it would be valued by him more highly than any other Masonic jewel he possessed . the Worshipful Master then asked the members of the

lodge to accept a lodge banner as a memento of his taking the chair . The gift was acknowledged by the I . P . M ., who said if it had not been for the liberality of Bro . Gentry in giving them that handsome banner , they would not have had one for some time to come . The P . M's . jewel and banner were manufactured by Bro . George Kenning .

The W . M . was then re-elected to represent the lodge on the Essex Provincial Charity Committee ; and the lodge having been closed , between 50 and 60 brethren sat down to dinner in the Town Hall , a splendid repast being well served by the host of the George Hotel . In the course of the alter dinner speeches , Lord Brooke again expressed his pleasure at being present on so

auspicious occasion , and hoped the lodge would prosper . The visitors present included the Right Hon . the Lord Brooke , P . G . M . ; Bros , the Rev . Dr . Sedgwick , P . G . Chap . England ; C H .
