Moffatt . To-morrow ( Saturday ) the Royal Yacht Victoria

and Albert will leave Portsmouth for Flushing , at which port she will on Monday next embark the Empress Frederick of Germany , who will land at Port Victoria . Bro . Lord Randolph Churchill , M . P ., will address his constituents of the Southern Division of Paddington , at the Metropolitan Music Hall , Edgware-road , on Saturday next , the 17 th inst .

We are glad to hear that Bro . the Earl of Rosslyn , Past G . Master of Scotland , who was slowly getting the better of his serious illness , has rallied from the relapse which occurred on the 2 nd instant , and that his medical advisers are not without hopes of his ultimate

The large south transept window is selected , and the order has been given to Messrs . Lavers , Westlake , and Co ., of London , to execute the work . The window

selected requiring a larger outlay than at first contemplated , Bros . Agg-Gardiner , M . P ., and the Baron de Ferrieres have each contributed £ 25 towards the additional sum required . The Victory , Nelson ' s flagship at the battle of Trafalgarleft the ship basin in Portsmouth Dockyard on

, Monday , and took up her moorings in the harbour between the flagship Duke of Wellington and the St . Vincent training ship . The old war craft has been thoroughly repaired at a cost of over £ 10 , 000 , and there is every probability of her lasting another century . The annual banquet of the Faith Lodge of Instruction , No . 141 , will take place at the Restaurant , 1 , Victoria Mansions , Victoria-street , S . W ., on Wednesday , the 2 Sth instant ; Bro . C . A . Cottebrune , P . M ., P . G . P ., in the chair .

Bro . Sir E . B . Malet returned to town from Woburn Abbey with the Lady Ermyntrude Malet , on Saturday last , and left England the following day for Berlin , in order to resume his duties as H . M . ' s Ambassador to Germany . At the weekly meeting of the Council of the Balloon Society at St . James's Hall on Saturday last , it was

stated by the Chairman that the subscriptions to the aeronautical fund amounted to upwards of £ 3 000 . The Mansion House Committee , which has been formed in connection with the Metropolitan Exhibition of the Royal Agricultural Society , in Windsor Great Park , in 1 SS 9 , held a meeting in the saloon of the Mansion House on Monday , Bro . Alderman Whitehead , Lord

Mayor elect , being in the chair , and a number of influential personages present to support him . It was announced that £ 5200 , out of the £ 20 , 000 required , had already been raised , in addition to £ 2000 collected at Windsor , and the hope was expressed that the appeal which had been made to the great City Companies to support the Exhibition would bear good fruit .

To-day ( Friday ) the usual procession through the City in connection with the inauguration of the new Lord Mayor , Bro . Alderman Whitehead , will take place , and in the evening his lordship will preside at the customary banquet in the Guildhall , when several of her Majesty ' s Ministers will be present . MASONIC BALL AT LIVERPOOL . —An influential

and numerously attended meeting of Freemasons was held recently in the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , in accordance with the following resolution , passed at the last Court of Governors of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution : " That the annual festival and ball , in aid of the funds of the Institution , be held in Liverpool in January , iSSg , and that the W . M . 's of lodges , First

Principals of chapters , E . C . ' s of K . T . encampments , the W . M . ' s of lodges of Mark Masons , Sovereigns of the Red Cross of Constantine , and Rose Croix meeting in the Province of West Lancashire , with the members of the General Committee , constitute the Ball Committee , with power to add to their number . " Bro . Edward Segar , P . M . 32 , P . J . G . W ., presided . It was decided to hold the

annual festival and ball on the third Tuesday in January , and the following brethren were appointed to act as officers : Bros . T . M . Shuttleworth , P . M . 314 , P . S . G . W ., Chairman ; J . Treasurer , stated that Bro . Wm . Matthews had generously offered to provide the printing required gratuitously . The offer was thankfully accepted . On Saturday last , Bro . Lord Arthur Hill , M . P ., was presented at Olympia with an address and service of plate by the exhibitors at the Irish Exhibition , in recognition of his services , which has so largely contributed to the success of the Exhibition .

To-day ( Friday ) is the 47 th anniversary of the birth of his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales , and the auspicious event will be celebrated in the usual manner , in London , and Windsor , and at Sandringham , where the Prince and his family are residing . There will also be the usual illuminations by the Royal tradesmen at the West-end of London .

Owing to the unusually heavy scenic arrangements incidental to the production of Bro . Henry Pettitt ' s new drama , entitled "Hands Across the Sea , " it has been found necessary to postpone the first performance of the play until to-morrow evening ( Saturday . ) The death , at the advanced age of 92 , is announced of Mr . John Griffith , of 6 , Hanover-terrace ,

Regent's Park . The deceased gentleman , who had practised in the City as an architect for upwards of half a century , was , the City Press says , very active in philanthropic work , the Charities he assisted during his lifetime being left in his will legacies to the amount of £ 20 , 100 . The greater proportion of this amount is bequeathed to various metropolitan hospitals . Probate has been obtained

for the will , the personal estate being of the value of £ 170 , 000 . The Prince of Wales has graciously consented , on the occasion of his visit to Derby , to open on the afternoon of Wednesday next the . 14 th instant , the buildings at Derby School , which have been erected to commemorate

the distribution of prizes by his Royal Highness and the Princess of Wales on a former annual speech-day . At the meeting of the Royal Prince of Wales Lodge , No . 1555 , at Penang , Straits Settlements , on the ist of September , the eldest son of Bro . Eckersall , S . W . 21 7 , was initiated .

The Keystone , received this week , contains the announcement of the death of Bro . John W . Simons , Past Grand Master of New York . The loss will be very keenly felt throughout the State and the country generally , as he wielded an immense influence as the Editor of the

Masonic department of the Nevi York Despatch . The American edition of Bro . Hughan's " Masonic Sketches and Reprints , " 1 S 71 , was dedicated to this distinguished Craftsman , and many have been the deserved compliments he has received at the hands of the Craft he loved so long and so well .

Our readers will deeply regret to hear that Bro . J . L . Toole ' s daughter , and only surviving child , died of typhoid fever in Edinburgh on Monday . Prince Arthur and Princess Margaret of Connaught left Buckingham Palace for India in order to join

their parents , after a prolonged visit to the Queen . Bro . Farncombe , Provincial Grand Warden of Sussex , has been presented with an illuminated address of thanks by the Town Council of Lewes on his retirement from the office of Mayor , a post which he has held three years in succession .

We are informed that an original operetta , the libretto written by Messrs . E . Humphrey and J . Addison , the music by Bro . James Weaver , will be produced at the Garrison Theatre , Woolwich , on Saturday , November 17 th , for copyright purposes . Bro . Robert Gresley Hall is a candidate for the County Council of the St . George's and Wapping division of London . Bro . Hall has served in many public

offices in the City , and is at present a member of the Common Council . We understand that Mr . Mark H . Judge is likely to be associated with . Dr . Parker-Young of 30 , Westbourne-square , as candidate for the London County Council for North Paddington . Bro . Earl Granville was the principal guest at a political dinner given by Bro . Sir U . K . Shuttlewort h , Bart ., at the Reform Club , Manchester , on Friday , the and inst .

Bro . Lord Magheramorne presided at the usual weekly meeting of the Metropolitan Board of Works , at their offices , Spring Gardens , on Friday , the 2 nd inst . On Saturday last the Lady Mayoress ( Lady De Keyser ) was presented with a handsome diamond bracelet and earrings by the members of the Court of Common Council , in grateful recognition of her kindness and courtesy at the Mansion House during her husband's Mayoralty .

Bro . Lord Halsbury ( Lord Chancellor of England ) , Bro . Lord Ashbourne ( Lord Chancellor of Ireland ) , and Bros . Lord George Hamilton and Sir M . E . Hicks-Beach , were among the Ministers who attended the Cabinet Council held at the Foreign Office on Monday .

On Monday Princess Louise , Marchioness of Lome , who was accompanied by the Marquis of Lome , Bro . the Earl and Countess Perry , Bro . the Earl and Countess of Ravensworth , and others , opened a wing of the new College of Science which has been erected at Newcastle-on-Tyne at a cost of £ 23 , 000 . The second exhibition of poultry , pigeons , cats ,

rabbits , and guinea pigs at the People s Palace , Mile Endroad , was opened on Friday , the 2 nd inst ., the entries , which were nearly a thousand , included some of the finest specimens ever exhibited . It is with deep regret we hear of the death of Bro . Philip D . Rees , of the William Preston and

Anglo-American Lodges , and also a founder of the Anglo-American Conclave ( Order of the Secret Monitor ) , No . 6 . He died on the 31 st ult ., after a very short illness . The brethren of the Anglo-American Lodge will miss his pleasant face and cheerful company very much . He had been a great traveller , and was a most amusing and interesting

companion . The World says " Bro , V . P . Freeman has for many years been a leading spirit amongst the Freemasons cf Sussex . His admirable arrangements for the installation of the Duke of Connaught led to his promotion to Grand

Office , and his friends will be glad to hear that his daughter is likely to win fame as a singer . Her performance at the Mayor ' s banquet , and as the "Carmen " of the Brighton and Hove Operatic Society , have been attended with considerable success . "

The remains of Bro . W . R . Hardcastle , postmaster of the Skipton district , were interred in Waltonwray's Cemetery on Sunday , 28 th ult . As the deceased brother was a member of the Craven Lodge , No . 810 , a late churchwarden of Skipton Christ Church , and a member

of other societies in the town , there was a very large public funeral . A large number of tradesmen headed the procession to the cemetery , these being followed by the brethren , among whom were Bros . Major Robinson , George Kendall , and Bro . J . R . Wilkinson , the three oldest members .

Bro . G . S . Graham announces his 24 th annual concert for Monday next , at the Parochial Hall , Oldridgeroad , Balham . The programme shows no falling off from the previous standard of merit , and that is saying a good deal . We notice amongst the artistes some familiar names and some that are new , but we know enough of Bro . Graham ' s ability and experience to be sure that an

evening's entertainment will be provided that will repay a visit to Balham on Monday .
