It was remitted to the Grand Stewards to make arrangements for the St . Andrew ' s Festival . The next subject before the Grand Lodge was the adoption of rules for the management of the Annuity Branch of the Fund of Scottish Masonic Benevolence . The scheme proposed by Bro . CALDWELL was unanimously adopted . The other business was routine .

Master being supported by Bros . Willis , D . of C , and the Rev . J . N . Tanner , Grand Chap . Bro . W . H . Danby , the first Master of the new lodge , was duly insialled by Bro . S . W . Ramsden , assisted by Bro . R . C . Edwards , P . M . 196 , and appointed his officers .

CONSECRATION OF THE CHORLTON MARK LODGE , No . 394 .

The Masonry in the Mark continues to flourish in Lancashire equally as well in proportion as in the Craft . Of this there can be no better proof than the fact that the Right Hon . the Earl of Lathom , the Prov . G . M . M ., has consecrated two new lodges within a little over a fortnight , the one in Liverpool , and the other at Chorlton-cum-Hardy , a pleasant suburb of

Manchester . The ceremony last referred to was performed on the afternoon of the 31 st ult . by his lordship , assisted by a number of influential Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past . The increasing growth of Mark Masonry in the district of Manchester has rendered a new lodge necessary . A movement to this end and purpose was started some time ago , and , after

overcoming the usual initial difficulties common to such an enterprise , the founders applied and obtained a charter from the Grand Lodge of England , the I arl of Lathom , as Master of the province , being delegated by the M . W . the G . M . of England , the Prince of Wales , to | call the Chorlton Lodge , No . 394 , into being .

The brethren assembled in the Masonic Hall , a handsome and commodious stone building , which stands on its own grounds in High-lane , Chorlton . The Prov . Grand Mark Master , Bro . the Earl of Lathom , arrived at the hall , and a procession of Provincial Grand Officers , Past and Present , was formed , and entered the lodge room , being received with the usual honours .

The lodge , which received the Prov . G . M . and officers , was constituted as under—Bro . J . H . Barrow , Prov . J . G . W ., having previousl y opened it in due form as acting W . M . —Bro . R . Murray , D . of C . The consecration ceremony was opened with prayer , Offered up by the ' Prov . Grand Chaplain , and the singing of an anthem .

The founders of the new lodge were next ranged in order , and addressed by the PROV . G . M . on the nature of the gathering . The PROV . G . S . explained the wishes of the founders , and the proceedings they had taken with respect to the formation of the lodge . The petition and warrant were read by Bro . CHADWICK , and- the P . G . M ., having ascertained from the brethren of the new lod ge that they approved of the officers mentioned in the warrant , called upon the Prov . Grand Chaplain to deliver the oration .

This was followed by an anthem and the first part of the consecration prayer , and , the brethren turning to the east , the PROV . G . M . delivered the beautiful invocation .

The pedestal was then uncovered , and the cornucopia , corn , and vessels containing wine , oil , and salt were carried four times round the lod ge . Corn was cast in the east as an emblem of plenty , the Consecrating Officer poured out wine as a token of joy and gladness , and oil as a symbol of peace and harmony , and salt was finally strewn as an omen of fidelity .

The censer was borne three times around the lodge by the Prov . Grand Chaplain , who later delivered the second portion of the consecration prayer and the Prov . G . M . subsequently dedicated the lodge . Bro . J . D . Murray , G . Std . Br ., and acting D . C , installed Bro . H y . Marshall as the first W . M ., and the latter invested his officers as follows :

The ceremony having concluded , votes of thanks were accorded to Bro . the Earl of Lathom , as Consecrating Officer , and Bro . Murray , as Installing Officer .

His lordship and Bros . Murray and Barrow were proposed as hon . members , and later on fifteen candidates were advanced . This was all the business , and the brethren afterwards dined together under the presidency of the Earl of Lathom .

CONSECRATION OF LODGE ST . JOHN , No . 2280 , SAUGOR , BOMBAY .

The consecration of Lodge St . John , No . 2280 , took place in the lodge room , at Saugor , C . P ., on the 7 th Sept . The ceremony was performed by Bro . H . R . King , D . D . G . M ., assisted by Bros . Limpus and Radcliffe and several of the founders of the lodge .

The brethren present , after being photographed , assembled in the lodge room . The Consecrating Officer and his assistants having entered , the D . D . G . M . took the Eastern chair and appointed his temporary officers . The lodge symbol ( drawn in Indian inkj was then uncovered , and the consecration proceeded with .

Ihe VV . M . elect , Bro . Dr . Langley Mills , was then installed into the chair of K . S . according to ancient custom by the D . D . G . M ., and invested his officers as follows : Bros . Col . Saurin Brooke , D . C , S . W . ; D . S . Mackay , J . W . ; P . Kell y , Sec . ; J . Ardaseer , S . D . ; E . Dolphin , J . D . ; Dr . Syed Hassan , D . C . The Inner and Outer Guards are to be invested when they have been raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M .

The Installing Officer then delivered in a most eloquent manner the customary address , taking for his subject the three great principles of Biotherly Love , Relief , and Truth . The VV . M . then rose and said the first duty he had to perform was to

ask the lodge to pass a most hearty vote of thanks to the Consecrating Officer and his assistants for the most able way they had performed their duties , and the many and great difficulties they had successfully overcome in coming to Saugor , and intimated that he hoped at the first regular meeting to be allowed to propose them as honorary members .

two candidates for freemasonry being in attendance , they were duly initiated by the W . M ., assisted by Bro . Radcliffe , who gave the charge most effectively . Six other candidates were awaiting initiation , but were unable to be present . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren and their guests adjourned to the banquet room . The table was prettily decorated with flowers of all sorts .

Towards the close of the banquet the usual loyal toasts of " The Queen and the Craft , " and "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " were given by the W . M ., who then called upon Bro . Col . Brooke , S . W ., to propose the the next toast , which was " The Three Grand Masters and the Three Grand Lodges . "

Bro . BROOKE touched briefly upon each of the subjects , and then entered in an eloquent manner upon a personal incident that had happened to him many years before whilst travelling in an out of the way part of Persia , explaining how hard he had found it to get carriage and supplies till he accidentally iound a brother Mason , when he found it still harder to get away from an excess ol hospitality .

The J . W ., Bro . MACKAY , then proposed " H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , District Grand Master , and his Officers . " The D . D . G . M . briefly replied .
