On arriving at the chapel the coffin was found covered with wreaths sent from the various Masonic bodies and from many private friends , and bearing over the breast the late District Grand Master's Masonic insignia . The Rev . H . C . Hodges here said the English Burial Service , when the brethren again formed in procession in inverted order , the following brethren being appointed as pallbearers : Bros . J . W . Cope , D . J . G . W . ; W . H . Anderson , P . S . G . W . ; J . H . Osborne , P . J . G . W . ; 1 . Northey , W . M . 1027 ; Hansler , 1951 ; E . C . Pearce , D . S . G . W . ; E . M . , Arrived at the grave , the Rev , H . C . Hodges concluded the Burial Service of the Church of England , and was followed by Bro . C . Thorne , who read the beautiful address and prayer of the Masonic ritual , and when this was finished , as Bro . Miller ' s predecessor in the chair , delivered a short but feeling address . Grand honours were then given as a last tribute of respect , after which the brethren passed in single line round the open grave , each dropping as he passed a sprig of acacia on the late Grand Master's coffin . The brethren having completed their ceremony at the grave , retired in full procession and adjourned back to the Masonic Hall , where the ceremony was completed .

The office of District Grand Master , thus rendered vacant by the death of Bro . J . I . Miller , devolves , pending the appointment by the Grand Master of a successor , upon his Deputy , Bro . Lewis Moore , who continues as his representative to exercise all the functions of the post . GEORGE J RYAN , M . D ., D . G . Masters , presented to the lodge a very handsome banner , worked by that lady , in memory of her late husband , Bro . W . Masters , P . G . S ., W . M . of No . Co , at the time of his death in May last . The lodge accepted the banner with gratitude , and the Secretary was directed to convey to Mrs . Masters their appreciation and thanks for her handsome and kindly gift . It was arranged that the summer dinner should be held at the Mitre Hotel , Hampton Court , on the fourth Friday in June next . The sum of one guinea was voted to "Our Brother's Bed , " an excellent

Treasurer of the lodge since 1 SS 5 , and , by his geniality , energy , and application , had endeared himself to every member of No . 1512 . After soma other observations , he concluded by trusting that for many years Bro . | essett would live to discharge the duties of his office , and that both he and his good wife would continue to enjoy every domestic happiness , and that when in due time they should be called awiy , that their descend nts would prize as heir-looms the presents that had been that evening bestowed upon a worthy man and Mason . One of the pieces bore the following : " Presented to Bro . J . C Jessett , P . P . G . S . B ., by the members of the Hemminj Lod ^ e , NJ . 1512 . " The

recipient , who was evidently overcome by the warmth of his reception when he rose to return thanks , said a few words in acknowledgment . The ballot was taken on behalf cf Bro . Krumm , 1733 , and it proved to lie unanimous . The sum of half a guinea was voted to " Our Brother's Bed " fund . Ap llogies f . ir nin-attendince were received from Bros . G . J . Tagg . W . Upon the removal of the cloth the usual toists rec : ived full justice .

Bro . H . H . Room , in responding on behalf of " The Provincial Grand Officers , " congratulated the lodge upon the support it had given to Bro . Lord George Hamilton , upon the occasion of his taking the chair at the recent Festivil of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . He also wished to mention that the next Provincial Grand Lodge would be held at Harrow in June . Their Provincial Grand Master was very painstaking , and evinced the most lively interest in everything connected with the province . He ( the speaker ) was very pleased to be present that evening , and to witness the presentation to their worthy Treasurer . He quite endorsed all that had been said about him that day . Bro . lessett ' s services could not be too highly extolled .

Other toasts followed in due course , and the proceedings terminated at an early hour .

The fact that the lodge had made a good choice in the election of W . M . was shown by the splendid way in which he performed the ceremony of initiation , there being three candidates , viz . , , At the banquet which followed the W . M . gave the usual loyal and Masonic toasts in earnest and happy terms . In proposing " The Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the W . M . read a letter from Bro . the Earl of Lathom , regretting his inability to be present . Bro . Rowlands , I . P . M ., in proposing "The Health of the W . M ., " referred to the

splendid way in which the ceiemony of initiation had been performed , and said it was a good augury for what was in store for the members . The Worshipful Master then presented the I . P . M ., in the name of the lodge , with a handsome gold Past Master ' s jewel . He said Bro . Rowlands was beloved by every member of the lodge and he hoped he would long live to wear the jewel as a memento of the esteem in which he was held by the brethren .

Bro . Mulvey , in responding for " The Visitors , " said he had admired the beautiful way in which the installing Master had done his work and the splendid manner in which the officers supported the W . M . He was a P . M . of five lodges , and having had great experience in the Craft he could conscientiously say that the working of the W . M . was perfect . The other toasts were " The Past Masters , " " The Treasurer and Secretary , " and "The Officers of the Lodge . "

An excellent musical entertainment was carried out under the direction of Bro . Frank Swinford Smith , the artistes being Miss Annie Swinfen , Mr . E . Crofton , Bros . F . C . Everill , Frank Lloyd , H . Cohen , P . M . ; Mackway , S . W . ; J . Hay , R . Rowlands , I . P . M ., and Mrs . Walter Hengler .

St . Nicholas Lodge , No . 2259 . The monthly meeting of this lodge was held on Wednesday , the ist inst ., at the Masonic Rooms , Thorne , when there were present Bros . S . H . C . , The lodge having been opened , Mr . G . E . Hardcastle was initiated , the work being admirably performed by the acting W . M . It was decided to support the Girls' School , and to grant the sum of 10 guineas for Bro . Constable ' s list . A sketch of a curious old fireplace—cast at Thorne about the year 1 S 10—was exhibited by Bro . Constable , after which the lodge was closed . The brethren then adjourned to the Club Room , where a capital repast was provided , and some excellent music dispersed by Bros . Hirdcastle , Middleto . i , Tomlinson , Maskill , Simpson , and Dugdale .

It was announced , with applause , that Bro . C L . Mason , P . S . G . W ., would give a short Masonic lecture at the next meeting .

The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed , and Bro . Peat was raised to the Third Degree by Bro . Niven , P . M . Bro . Hird , J . W ., explained the working tools , and Bro . Niven delivered the charge . A candidate was proposed for initiation , and after " Hearty good wishes " from 33 visitors , the lodge was closed . After refreshment , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

Bro . Robinson , W . M ., submitted the toast of " l ' he Visitors , " and gave a very hearty welcome to the large number that had honoured the lodge that evening with their presence . Visitors were always very welcome at Lodge Acacia , and he felt it exceedingly gratifying to have had the pleasure of entertaining so many that evening . He hoped they had all enjoyed themselves .

Co , at the time of his death in May last . The lodge accepted the banner with gratitude , and the Secretary was directed to convey to Mrs . Treasurer of the lodge since 1 SS 5 , and , by his geniality , energy , and application , had endeared himself to every member of No . 1512 . After soma other observations , he concluded by trusting that for many years Bro . | essett would live to discharge the duties of his office , and that both he and his good wife would continue to enjoy every domestic happiness , and that when in due time they should be called awiy , that their descend nts would prize as heir-looms the presents that had been that evening bestowed upon a worthy man and Mason . One of the pieces bore the following : " Presented to Bro . J . C Jessett , P . P . G . S . B ., by the members of the Hemminj Lod ^ e , NJ . 1512 . " The

recipient , who was evidently overcome by the warmth of his reception when he rose to return thanks , said a few words in acknowledgment . The ballot was taken on behalf cf Bro . Krumm , 1733 , and it proved to lie unanimous . The sum of half a guinea was voted to " Our Brother's Bed " fund . Ap llogies f . ir nin-attendince were received from Bros . G . J . Tagg . W . Bro . H . H . Room , in responding on behalf of " The Provincial Grand Officers , " congratulated the lodge upon the support it had given to Bro . Lord George Hamilton , upon the occasion of his taking the chair at the recent Festivil of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . He also wished to mention that the next Provincial Grand Lodge would be held at Harrow in June . Their Provincial Grand Master was very painstaking , and evinced the most lively interest in everything connected with the province . He ( the speaker ) was very pleased to be present that evening , and to witness the presentation to their worthy Treasurer . He quite endorsed all that had been said about him that day . Bro . lessett ' s services could not be too highly extolled .

Other toasts followed in due course , and the proceedings terminated at an early hour .

, , At the banquet which followed the W . M . gave the usual loyal and Masonic toasts in earnest and happy terms . In proposing " The Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the W . M . read a letter from Bro . the Earl of Lathom , regretting his inability to be present . Bro . Rowlands , I . P . M ., in proposing "The Health of the W . M ., " referred to the

splendid way in which the ceiemony of initiation had been performed , and said it was a good augury for what was in store for the members . The Worshipful Master then presented the I . P . M ., in the name of the lodge , with a handsome gold Past Master ' s jewel . He said Bro . Rowlands was beloved by every member of the lodge and he hoped he would long live to wear the jewel as a memento of the esteem in which he was held by the brethren .

Bro . Mulvey , in responding for " The Visitors , " said he had admired the beautiful way in which the installing Master had done his work and the splendid manner in which the officers supported the W . M . He was a P . M . of five lodges , and having had great experience in the Craft he could conscientiously say that the working of the W . M . was perfect . The other toasts were " The Past Masters , " " The Treasurer and Secretary , " and "The Officers of the Lodge . "

An excellent musical entertainment was carried out under the direction of Bro . Frank Swinford Smith , the artistes being Miss Annie Swinfen , Mr . E . Crofton , Bros . F . C . Everill , Frank Lloyd , H . Cohen , P . M . ; Mackway , S . W . ; J . Hay , R . Rowlands , I . P . M ., and Mrs . Walter Hengler .

, The lodge having been opened , Mr . G . E . Hardcastle was initiated , the work being admirably performed by the acting W . M . It was decided to support the Girls' School , and to grant the sum of 10 guineas for Bro . Constable ' s list . A sketch of a curious old fireplace—cast at Thorne about the year 1 S 10—was exhibited by Bro . Constable , after which the lodge was closed . The brethren then adjourned to the Club Room , where a capital repast was provided , and some excellent music dispersed by Bros . Hirdcastle , Middleto . i , Tomlinson , Maskill , Simpson , and Dugdale .

It was announced , with applause , that Bro . C L . Mason , P . S . G . W ., would give a short Masonic lecture at the next meeting .

The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed , and Bro . Peat was raised to the Third Degree by Bro . Niven , P . M . Bro . Hird , J . W ., explained the working tools , and Bro . Niven delivered the charge . A candidate was proposed for initiation , and after " Hearty good wishes " from 33 visitors , the lodge was closed . After refreshment , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

Bro . Robinson , W . M ., submitted the toast of " l ' he Visitors , " and gave a very hearty welcome to the large number that had honoured the lodge that evening with their presence . Visitors were always very welcome at Lodge Acacia , and he felt it exceedingly gratifying to have had the pleasure of entertaining so many that evening . He hoped they had all enjoyed themselves .
