The proceeds are to be devoted towards reducing the building debt on the Stewartstown
Masonic Hall . The programme contained a number of the most popular modern compositions , and the instrumental items _ vvere such as to please the most fastidious , more especially the violin duets and solos by the brothers Hobart , of Dromore , in which they displayed brilliant execution . The singing of the National Anthem brought the proceedings to a close .
Bro . the Bishop of Peterborough , vvho cameto town to attend the Royal Academy dinner on Saturday last , is laid up vvith a bad bronchial cold . His lordship is being attended by Sir Andrew Clark , and is declared to be better " but had not been , permitted to leave his bed during the early part of the week .
We are pleased to hear that the National gatherjng of Working men Co-operators , vvhich created so much interest last year is to be repeated . It will be held at the Crystal Palace , on Saturday , August 17 th . Edward Vansittart Neale , George Jacob Holyoake , and Edward Owen Greening , three well-known leaders of the Co-operative Movement , are the chief executive ofiicers for the year ,
and William Broomhall is the general secretary . The programme , vvhich vvas a very extensive one last year , will be considerably augmented . The Flower Show to be organised by the Agricultural and Horticultuial Association has a prize list already of £ 300 , for vegetables , flowers , and fruit . I he exhibition of manufactures from co-operative productive workshops will be under the auspices of the
Labour Association , vvhich is doing good work in the propagation of the principle of the right of workers to share in the profits of their labour . The number of performers in the great concert will be increased to 5000 , and a new selection of pieces will be sung , together , vvith the ode specially written for the occasion by Lewis Morris . The Home Industries Exhibition , the Athletic Sports , and the public meetings are being arranged for , and it is
anticipated that a very large number of people will be present . Industrial Co-operative Societies in all parts of the country are subscribing the necessary funds , and many well-known public men are taking a lively interest in its success . This annual festival will , doubtless , prove a very valuable means of making known to working men the fact that co-operation is one of the most promising solutions of the difficulty with capital and labour .

We had the pleasure a few days ago of visiting Bro . Jonathan Crowther at the Macclesfield Arms Hotel , Macclesfield . Since his proprietorship of this celebrated house he has , at great expense , decorated and altered in a most elaborate and tasteful manner the whole premises , including the spacious Masonic Room in connection vvith his house , making it one of the finest in the province . It
is so arranged vvith a suite of dressing rooms , lavatories , & c , that it can at pleasure be entirely divided from the public portion of the hotel , whicii is a great advantage . In order to meet the cost of erecting the remaining poition of the New Buildings connected vvith the Great Northern Central Hospital , Holloway-road , which were opened in July , iSSS , by their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Piincess of Wales , a sum of at least £ 20 , 000 is
required , and it is earnestly hoped that all vvho are able to assist in the effort , either directly or by the influence they can bring to bear on others , will exert themselves in the good cause . This Great Northern Central Hospital is situated in a populous district , and is surrounded on all sides by railway goods stations and manufactories , while the Metropolitan Cattle Market is close at hand . It has
also adopted a mixed free and pay system , so that , while the very poor will receive prompt and gratuitous . medical aid , those vvho are not in such necessitous circumstances , but still unable to consult regular practitioners , will be able to obtain such advice , & c , as they may need in case of
illness or accident on terms that will not be too exacting for their means . The hospital , in short , both deserves and needs support , and vve are sure the Secretary , Mr . William Grant , at the Hospital , Holloway-road , N ., will acknowledge vvith gratitude whatever sums of money may be remitted to him .
Bro . T . M . Waller , who for the last four years has been Consul-General for the United States , was presented on Thursday , the 2 nd inst ., vvith two testimonials in recognition of the respect in which he is held . In the afternoon he was entertained at lunch at the H 6 ; el Metropole by his Consular brethren , and was presented vvith a
handsome case , containing two umbrellas , one being for Mrs . Waller , and a walking stick , the gitt having been chosen by the retiring Consul-General himself . In the evening he was entertained at dinner by his London friends , and presented with a handsome silver loving-cup . Bro . Sir John Puleston , M . P ., presided on the occasion .
The Jubilee of the Royal British Female Orphan Asylum , Devonport , will be celebrated on Friday , the 24 th inst ., and at the same time the opportunity will be taken to present Bro . Lorenzo D . Devonshire , who has been its honorary Secretary during the whole of its existence , and has been instrumental in raising quite £ 50 , 000 towards its support , to say nothing of the persons
vvho have oeen benefited by his action—with a portrait of himself in oils , to be placed in the Asylum , as a memorial of his successful and prolonged efforts on behalf of this deserving Charity . We had the pleasure a few days ago of visiting Bro . Jonathan Crowther at the Macclesfield Arms Hotel , Macclesfield . In order to meet the cost of erecting the remaining poition of the New Buildings connected vvith the Great Northern Central Hospital , Holloway-road , which were opened in July , iSSS , by their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Piincess of Wales , a sum of at least £ 20 , 000 is
required , and it is earnestly hoped that all vvho are able to assist in the effort , either directly or by the influence they can bring to bear on others , will exert themselves in the good cause . This Great Northern Central Hospital is situated in a populous district , and is surrounded on all sides by railway goods stations and manufactories , while the Metropolitan Cattle Market is close at hand . It has
also adopted a mixed free and pay system , so that , while the very poor will receive prompt and gratuitous . medical aid , those vvho are not in such necessitous circumstances , but still unable to consult regular practitioners , will be able to obtain such advice , & c , as they may need in case of
illness or accident on terms that will not be too exacting for their means . The hospital , in short , both deserves and needs support , and vve are sure the Secretary , Mr . William Grant , at the Hospital , Holloway-road , N ., will acknowledge vvith gratitude whatever sums of money may be remitted to him .
Bro . T . M . Waller , who for the last four years has been Consul-General for the United States , was presented on Thursday , the 2 nd inst ., vvith two testimonials in recognition of the respect in which he is held .
