Lee and Brown to respond .
Provincial Meetings.
Bro . W . H . Lee , P . P . G . D ., returned thanks , and acknowledged the kind reception given the Prov . Grand Officers , and the generous hospitality displayed . It had g iven him a very great amount of pleasure to witness the re-installation of their old friend , Bro . John Mason , for he was a brother well known throughout the Craft , and where known , highly respected and beloved . He could only
congratulate the VV . M . on his installation , wishing him a happy year of office , and the lodge a continuance of that prosperity it had enjoyed in the past . Bro . W . A . Brown , P . P . G . S . of Works , also replied . l Bro . T . I . Bird , P . M ., P . P . G . S . B ., Sec , then said that at short notice he had been called upon to propose " The Health of the W . M . " Bro . J . Mason was the Mast-r of
the lodge at its' first meeting , and was again Master at its 101 st meeting , and as he started the first century so he had started the second . They would hope that when the lodge started its third century of meetings Bro . Mason would again occupy the chair of VV . M . It was a happy coincidence that the 101 st meeting should fall on the installation night , and the
members had marked the occasion in a manner that gave them all the greatest possible satisfaction . The father of the lodge now occupied the principal place in it as he should do in a family . They were afraid a few days ago that the state of Bro . Mason's health would not permit him to be present , but he had been restored almost miraculously . Bro . Mason was the first occupant of the chair of the lodge and also the
first occupant of the new chair presented by Bro . Taylor . Long might the W . M . occupy the place in their hearts he did that night , for he was born a Mason , was made a Mason , and would die a Mason , but long might that event be postponed . The W . M ., in reply , said I assure you it is to me a very proud moment to be able to respond again to the toast of the W . M . of the Elliot Lodge . I said , when we commenced
this evening's entertainment , that long speeches were to be tabooed , and I certainly will not break that rule by making any long speech in response to this toast . I feel the honour deeply to have been re-elected to the chair of this lodge , in which there has been 100 meetings completed . I little thought two days ago I was to be installed into a different chair in the same lodge . 1 was only informed
since I sat at the banquet table that this chair was presented to the lodge for the purpose by one of the Past Masters—our good friend , Bro . Taylor , P . M . Believe me , if I had had any idea in the lodge I should not have closed it for a few minutes until I had said something respecting it . I am precluded from saying anything now because of the rule laid down by myself . I thank him in the name of
the lodge for his kind present , and 1 feel it an exceeding great honour to be the first to occupy the first new chair on the occasion of the 101 st meeting . It has been kindly said by Bro . Bird that he hopes I shall attend another 100 meetings , and it I keep as well as I feel at the present moment , I shall . I trust I may be with you for many years to come , because
I am proud of this lodge for many reasons . We have no little private cliques in this lodge . If a brother has anything to say , he says it and it is done with , just as in a private family . We can take each other by the hand as brothers , and that is the principle of Masonry . I thank you for the kind manner in which you have drank mv health and for your kind reception . Before I sit down I
will propose the next toast , and that is " Success to the Masonic Charities . " Some people obiect to the word Charities , but 1 am English and believe in the word Charity , because it means love and nothing else . Why should it be smothered up ? It | is Masonic love—our Masonic lovely Institutions , if you will have the word Institutions . Tonight I am honoured by the presence of the three
Secretaries of the three great Charities of the Masonic world . I shall ask Bro . Hedges to respond first , as the Girls ' School is the oldest . Then will come Bro . McLeod with his noble oratory , all genuine , for it comes from his heart , the main-spring and source it should come from . Then we come to the Old Peoples' Institution , represented by Bro . Terry .
Bros . Hedges , McLeod , and Terry replied , alter which Bro . Bird , P . M ., Sc , said that had it been stated in the lodge that Bro . Brown , P . M ., P . P . G . S . of W ., would go up as Steward for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , he should have proposed that 10 guineas should be given . Bro . James Stephens , Prov . S . G . D . Bucks , i . i response to " The Visitors , ' expressed the pleasure it afforded him
to see the W . M . installed into the chair . It was Bro . Mason who first induced Mrs . Stephens to act as Steward for the Old People when she Lrought up a substantial contribution to that year ' s festival . The majority of the brethren then returned to town by train , after having spent an enjoyable evening . The musical portion of the programme was ably supported by
Miss Bird , and Bros . Bayne , lhompson , Brooker , and Webster . The programme of the evening ' s entertainment was , as usual , embellished with many spices of fun and humour from the pen of the W . M ., under the title of " Mason ' s Annual for 1893 , " and will certainly be retained by all present as a souvenir of the occasion .

Brooker , I . G . ; and T . G . Smith and J . H . Russell , Stwds . The VV . M . then presented Bro . J . Montgomery with a handsome gold Past Master ' s jewel in recognition of the untiring energy and valuable services rendered by him to the lodge during its first year , and Congratulated him on the flourishine condition in which it bad been handed over to its new Master . Bro . Montgomery , in
returning thanks , stated that the jewel came as a very pleasant surprise , that he was very gratified to receive it , and thanked the brethren for their loyal support during his term of office . Letters of apology and expressions of fraternal congratulations were received from Bros . Colonel Noel Money , C . B ., Prov . G . M . ; Chas . Greenwood , P . G . Sec . ; the Rev . R . I . Simpson , P . G . Chap . ; F . R . W .
Hedges , Sec . R . M . L Girls ; and E . C Mulvey , Board of Benevolence , West Lanes ., P . P . G . S . B . After "Hearty good wishes , " the lodge was closed . The banquet was served under the direction of Bro , Packham , of Surbiton .
At its conclusion the W . M . gave the usual Masonic toasts , which were cordially and duly honoured . In submitting the first toast , the W . M . alluded to the great interest taken by her Most Gracious Majesty in all Masonic undertakings , and especially in the Chanties , of which she is Grand Patron to all three .
"The M . W . Grand Master the Prince of Wales , " and "The Prov . G . M ., Dep . P . G . M .. and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " followed . Bro . H . E . Houndle , P . P . S . G . W ., responded for the Prov . Grand Officers , and was glad so many of them were present to support him . They were always anxious to support any lodge . He complimented the W . M . on the
state of prosperity shown , and by its being so carefully steered through its first year of existence he had every hope for its continued success . Bro . J . Montgomery , l . P . M ., next gave "The W . M . " in a very lengthy speech , and was sure the lodge would prosper under his rule . The Worshipful Master returned thanks , and trusted the brethren would support him as they had the previous Master
and he would endeavour to render a good account and do his duty as Master of the Noel Lodge . Next came " The Installing Master . " Bro . Mongomery , in returning thanks , suitably acknowledged the efforts of the brethren , and was glad he had given such satisfaction . He had several times been Master of lodges , not only in Craft Masonry but m Arch and
Mark , and his working was the result of 20 years ' , love for Masonry , and as he had lectured to the brethren , so he hoped the new W . M . would follow . ' For""The Visitors , " Bros . J . Edgell , G . Moorman , and Capt . Butterworth responded . " The Masonic Charities" was given by the VV . M ., with a sincere wish to see the Noel Lodge represented at all
Festivals . Bro . Abel Laurence responded , and said he was Life Governor of all three , and he hoped the younger brethren would follow , and that as there was a fifth Masonic Charity started in Kingston , hoped many more would join . They had already sent over £ Soo . The present W . M . had been up to the Girls' Festival with him . Bro . Reynolds , late J . W ., who retired from office as he
is about to proceed to the Far East , was the recepient of a perfect ovation and all best wishes for success in his new undertaking . The harmony of the evening was well supplied by Bros . Montgomery , Reynolds , Shearlock , Smith , Levy , and Packington . The Tyler's toast brought one of the most enjoyable evenings to a close .

Room , the Pro / . G . Sec , had telegraphed to say a bad cold prevented his attendance , but they had Bro . Lee present , whom they were delighted to welcome . He should couple the names of Bros .

G . Sec . ; the Rev . R . I .
