jewel suspended from the neck , and the Knights Templar of St . John of Jerusalem , as representatives of the Crusaders , were clad in white cloaks with loose sleeves , adorned , some with large single and others with double red crosses , according to rank , a black sash with a sanguine cross being b . itween the inner and outer robe , the latter having a red or white hood , and each Templar carrying a sword ; their caps being red , and showing a cross in gold or silver . The spectacle , we are assured , was singularly striking when the audience at eight p . m .

were all in their places , and after having had time to gaze with delight on the symbolic emblazonments on the walls , saw the procession , headed by Sir Knight Wright , Preceptor of the Knights Templar of No . 163 , and Sir Knight Sheppard Past Preceptor , and all the Knights Templar , with drawn swords , moving down the central passage , and ascending thc stage , forming therewith what is known

as the arch of steel , under which the " scarlet "and " blue " passed , filing to tbe right and left , the R . W . Deputy G . Master , Bro . W . P . H . Lloyd-Vaughan , D . L ., supported by Bro . T . R . Ely , J . P ., coming last . Immediately after thc Dep . G . M ., 011 the call of Bro . Henry Barlow , was saluted by a running fire according to usage , the Knights Templar saluting in their own manner ot symbolism .

On resuming their scats , horse-shoe shape , thc " show " was peculiarly attractive , and would have been more so had the piano , which , by the way , was a splendid instrument , specially sent down from Dawson-street , Dublin , by the distinguished makers , Pohlman and Co ., prize medallists , been placed upon the lower floor instead of on the stage , where it obscured almost half the view . Without wasting a moment the R . W . CHAIRMAN spoke a few telling words by way of pointing out the aims of the Craft respecting the Orphan Schools , and giving the audience some idea of the magnitude and worth of the work which has been in operation for over 100 years .

The concert then began , and was admitted by the most refined musicians among the hearers to have been virtually perfect , and the eager encores , which were kindly answered by thc artistes , gave undoubted confirmation to that admvs - sion , and to the acknowledgment on all sides that those who did not avail of the opportunity to be present were deprived of a first-class musical treat ; even the piano being made to attune as though alive under the magic touch of the Grand Organist . The hearers were enraptured by the violin , as played by Miss Delany ,

whom we would make free to describe as the Irish Lady Paganini . H is needless to go into particulars , but we cannot forbear saying that Mr . Kelly ' s encore song , " Father O'Flynn , " was a tremendous hit , and that all approached the supreme as near as might be in their several phases , As many readers may wish to know the programme , we give it . leaving out names of composers . There were eight pieces in each of the two parts . First , a quartette , Irish melody , arranged that saiie evening at a

moment's notice by Bro . Joze , and sung by Miss Shellard , Messrs . D'Alton , Morgan , and Kelly ; 2 nd , " Only once more ; " 3 rd , " When the heart is young , " Miss Shellard ; 4 th , " Ho ! Jolly Jenkin , " Mr . Kelly ; 5 th , solo violin , a " Berceuse de Jocelyn , " b " Un Soir a Portici , " Miss Delany ; 6 th , duet , "Night hymn at sea , " Miss Shellard and Mr . Kelly ; 7 th , "Best of all , " Mr . D'Alton ; Sth , trio , " J'Navigauti , " Miss Shellard , Messrs . D'Alton and Kelly . 1 st' quartette , " God is a spirit" ( same singers as in Part I . ); 2 nd , " I seek for

, thee in every fiower , " Mr . Morgan ; 3 rd , " Ave Maria , " Miss Shellard , with violin obligate ; 4 th , " Cleansing fires , " Mr . Kelly ; 5 th , solo violin , " Morceau de Concert , " Miss Delany ; 6 th , "Irish emigrant , " Mr . D'Alton ; 7 th , Welsh song , "O'na byddaf haf O Lyd , " Mr . Morgan ; Sth , quartette , " And now we'll say good-night" ( same singers as before ) ; finale , National Anthem , in which the brethren , vvhoaboveall things are loyal to thc core , most bcurtily joined , as did the audience .

Another fine trait among thc Fraternity being hospitality , there was ready in the apartment under the platlurm a sumptuous supper ( got up in Mrs . Edwards ' best style ) for thc brethren who came from a distance and the six Dublin artistes , who were greatly pleased with the attentions bestowed upon them . Thc concert had the patronage of his Grace thc Duke of Abercorn , the Grand Master of Ireland , who wrote expressing regret that numerous prior calls upon his lime made his presence impossible .

Angel Lodge , No . 51 . The i < Mlh anniversary festival of the above lodge was held on Monday , the 30 th ult ., at Colchester , and was largely attended by both members of the lodge and visitors . 'I he chief business of thc meeting was the installation of Bro . Willoughby John Bean , S . W ., as W . S . of W ., was re-elected to represent the lodge on the Essex Provincial Charity Committee , and a hearty vote of thanks having been passed to thn Irstallintr Master , the lodire was closed .

The customary banquet afterwards took place at the Cup * Ilotel , wtien uetween 50 and Co brethren sat down to an excellent repast , well served by the host and hostess , Mr . and Mr * . Woodward . The new W . M ., Bro . W . J . Bean , presided , and thc proceedings were characterised throughout by great good fellowship . The usual Masonic toasts were duly honoured , and in the course of the evening thc new W . M ., in the name of the lodge , presented a handsome gold jewel of Past Provincial Grand Steward to Bro . IL G . H . Elliott , P . M .

Bro . Bean , in making thc presentation , said the members of the lodge felt that some recognition was due to Bro . Elliott for the able and zealous way in which he had conducted the business of the lodge , both durinf . - the year he was Master , and also in the succeeding year as l . P . M . They were all aware of the excellent work he had done , and their earnest wish was that Bro . Elliott might long continue to live amongst them and give the lodge the benefit of his valuable assistance . For the information of the visitors presenUhe might explain that it was not the custom of the Angel Lodge to

present a jewel to every Master as was done in many lodges—he believed that only three jewels had been presented within living mcinorj -so that they would sec that thc present gilt was a very special mark of esteem . ' I he W . M . then , amid great applause , pinned the jewel on Bro . Elliott's breast , ar . d read the inscription as follows : " Presented by thc brethren of the Angel Lodge , No . 51 , to W . Bro . H . G . H . Elliott , P . M ., P . P . G . Stwd ., as a mark of esteem , and in Ktognilion of the zeal and ability with which be carried out thc duties of W . M . and l . P . M ., 1 Sr . 17 . 1 j . Colchester , October 30 th , 1 S 99 . "

Bro . Elliott , who met wilh quite an ovation , acknowledged the presentation in feeling terms . He said he had been taken completely by surprise , and could hardly find words in which to suitably acknowledge the kindness of the brethren , lie could assure them he should value the handsome jewel they had given him as ons of his most treasured uosiissioiis , and he would be pleased at any time to do anything he could for

tne Angel Lodge . During the evening the splendid string band of the 7 th ( Princess of Wales's ) Dragoon Guards plajtd a beautiful selection « f music , under the direction of Bro . Witle ( the bandmastci ) , and Mr . Arthur Melville sang several songs in his excellent style . Bro . C Oiniond , P . P . G . Org ., was in charge ol the musical arrangements .

tne Angel Lodge . During the evening the splendid string band of the 7 th ( Princess of Wales's ) Dragoon Guards plajtd a beautiful selection « f music , under the direction of Bro .
