precirxls of an open Masonic lodge . We have , however , invited you live I euises here this evening to present path of you with a souvenir of the two merit functions in which jou weie privileged to take a somewhat important part . The relig ious and humanitarian objects to which these two buildings will be dedicated w hfn they are complete , were referred to in your presence hy our revered P . G . M ., and it only remains for ire to remind you that the
volume of the Sacred Law , which you had the honour of carryirg on both cccasions , is an essential part cf every Masonic ceremony . It may happen that upon reaching the years of manhood you may desire to enter the fraternity in which your respective fathers are esteemed brethren . In the meantime , whether you ultimately become Freemasons or not , let me enjoin you to make a daily study of this grand old book , and you will become
acquainted . with the real basis of our Masonic art . By the same means you will have laid the foundation of a manly , honest life , devoted , we earnestly trust , to the service of your fellow men . On behalf of the three sister lodges of Bournemouth , I now present each one of you with a copy of this sacred volume , which we regard as the unerring standard of truth and justice , in the hope that you will always direct your conduct by the divine precepts it contains .
Bro . J . J . BRAZIER , in responding on behalf of the lads , expressed their appreciation of the kindness of the three lodges on presenting to them the Bibles which they had received , and said that no more fitting present could have been chosen , because , whilst the volume of the Sacred Law was opened at all Masonic meetings , it was also taken as the rule and guide for the lives of Freemasons in their intercourse with the outer world .
The lads , he said , felt it to have been a great privilege to assist in the Masonic ceremonies at Boscombe and Malmesbury Park , and they were old enough to hope that the connection with Freemasonry formed on the occasions referred to might be consummated when they arrived at mature age . They felt that the fact of their fathers being members of the Craft was sufficient to induce them to follow in their footsteps . Bro . Brazier
thanked the W . M . for the kind words he had addressed to them , and assured him that his remarks had made a deep impression on their minds and that they would earnestly strive to follow the advice given . In conclusion , Bro . Brazier conveyed the thanks of the lads to the W . M . and officers for having permitted the presentation to take place there , and especially expressed thanks to Bro . Miles for the trouble he had taken in the matter . The Bibles presented were of the Teacher Edition and handsomely bound .

Some doubt has been expressed as to the date of the warrant of this lodge , and in the Frtviiiason oi October 1 | th the statement is made that it was issued in 179 6 . Now , this lod ^ e , as shown in J . Uoss Robertson ' s " History of Freemasonry in Canada " ( see pp . 733-4 ) , was constituted in 1799 , and its first minutes , dated 20 th November of that year , contain a notilication of the receipt of the warrant and iewels . It is true that the
charter itself is not extant , but the collateral evidence concerning its issue is convincing . In 1797 R . W . Bro . Robertson ' s collection , bears the date of 12 lh February , 170 S . Lodtre
No . 12 , also mentioned in tne otiiciai list ot 1797 , was not warranted until later still ; the warrant of Lodge No . 13 , in the county of Leeds , U .
