Original Correspondence.

Members of the society will receive in return our periodically printed transactions , containing the full text of all papers read in lodge and the discussions thereon , papers communicated but not read for want of time , reports , criticisms , statistics , & c . Those who desire it will also receive the summonses convening our meetings , and it is not necessary to add that they will be at all times specially

welcome as visitors to the lodge . They will be further entitled to make full use of our lodge library and reading rooms , which we intend to establish in London as soon as circumstances shall permit . Papers from correspondence members will be received with pleasure by the Secretary , and read in lodge or printed as the Transactions as the Committee may direct .

The lodge further contemplates reprinting * scare works relating to the Craft , old minutes , lists , & c , and editing interesting manuscripts . The delivery of these cannot be included in the very low subscription , but Correspondence members will be entitled to acquire them at a reduced or cost price . I must not take up too much of your valuable space , so will refer those interested to our circular , which gives fuller

details . Many applications have already come in , including some from Germany , Switzerland , and America . I therefore believe that our Society promises to fill a vacant space in the number of Masonic Associations , and venture to hope for a great success . " Dear Sir and Brother , It has occurred to me , in connection with the circular letter recently issued by the Earl of Carnarvon , that there must be many brethren who , being themselves in favour of the voluntary subscription among * Masons therein suggested , are practically debarred from subscribing in

consequence of a majority in their respective lodges having decided against the suggestion . M . is to be congratulated on the able manner in which both arduous ceremonies were performed . The communication from the Pro Grand Master as to the Imperial Institute was vetoed by a majority of the lodge . Bro . C . Dairy was elected to represent the

lodge at the next Festival of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , and a notice of motion given to head his list with ten guineas from the lodge funds . Several minor matters having been satisfactorily disposed of , the lodge was duly closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet . The usual toasts were honoured , and the entire proceedings , under the able and genial sway of the W . M ., left nothing to be desired .

be desired . The W . M . then presented Bro . Gamble Hob son with the P . M . ' s jewel unanimously voted to him by the brethren for his services during his year of office . Bro . Hobson thanked the brethren for the honour done him . There being no other business , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet table , where they partook of the good things provided for them by the able

manager , Mr . Kelby . Grace having been said , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given by the W . M ., and enthusiastically responded to by the brethren . Out of a total of 20 who sat down to the banquet , seven were visitors , which speaks well for the hospitality of St . Thomas ' s , and some two or three most distinguished guests were unavoidably prevented from being present . A very enjoyable evening was spent .

INDUSTRY LODGE ( No . 186 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held at Freemasons ' Hall , Great Queen-street , on the 25 th ult ., when a goodly number of the members assembled , with a tair sprinkling of visitors . toasts , to all of which full justice was given , were interspersed with numerous solos , duets , and recitations , rendered in a highly accomplished manner by the following artistes : Miss Joyce Maas , Bro . W . Wright , Mr . W . Tomey , and Mr . W . T . Sharp , all of whose efforts were much appreciated , and went far to ensure what proved to be a most enjoyable evening .

Business having been concluded , the brethren sat down to an excellent repast , served in the usual style of the worthy host , Bro . Page , P . M . After discussing the various courses , with appetites well whetted by the labours of the evening , the taole being cleared , and the room tyled , the usual Masonic

loyal , , and patriotic toasts were teceived and honoured with true Commemoration ' fire . " " The Health of the W . M ., " proposed by the I . P . M . lodge occupied itself with the consideration of several important matters . Among these were the Earl of Carnarvon ' s ( Pro Grand Master ) letter in re the Jubilee and the Stewardship of the W . M . for the benefit of the Royal Masonic benevolent Insitution for Aged Freemasons and Widows of Freemasons . Although iSi 6 has rendered large support to the three Masonic Charities and to other Institutions , as a recent grant in aid of the West Ham Hospital

tund , it was resolved to devote 63 guineas to Bro . Carrell ' s list in order lo place the lodge in the proud position ot Life Patron of the old people ' s Institution during the Jubilee year of her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen . All business being at an end , the laTge assembly dispersed , to make their way as well as the thick fog would permit to the Langthorne Rooms , Stratford , where Bro . G . Hay had prepared a capital banquet in keeping with the occasion .

At the conclusion of the repast Bro . Cattel ! gave the usual loyal and Craft toasts , and Bro . C . Reeve , as I . P . M ., followed by asking a hearty reception of the honoured toast of "The W . M . " Like Whittington , Lord Mayor of London , Bro . Carrell had returned to his duties as W . M . of the lodge for another year , and they weie all very glad he had done so . Under his rule the lodge had flourished ,

and in re-electing him they might rest assured 1816 would continue to do so . The toast was heartily received , and in an eloquent speech Bro . Carrell thanked the brethren for so warmly receiving his name , and assured them of the fact that as long as he should continue as W . M . of 1816 it would be his constant care in the future , as in the past , to promote

the happiness of the brethren and the best interests of the lodge . "The Visitors" were then honoured , Bro . Carrell urging the great importance the members of No . 1816 attached to the presence of visiting brethren , endeavouring to give them a hearty welcome , good working , and as

hospitable a reception at the banquet table as the circumstances of the lodge would admit . They all felt they could not get on without the presence and good wishes of the visitors , and the brethren ot No . 1816 were caieful whom they invited , so he was certain that all the numerous brethren visiting that evening were good men and true .
