All good Masons svill regret deeply the loss of their beautiful hall , so rich in historic associations , and all will be anxious for its reconstruction and for its security as far as possible from a repitition of the disaster . Buildings of so great intrinsic and historic value should not be left at the mercy of the all-devouring element one atom more than is inevitable . Fortunately the means of obtaining security are greater than they were . The buildings of the
International Fisheries Exhibition have just been rendered fireproof b y the use of Asbestos fireproof paint , a remarkable invention introduced by the United Asbestos Company , of Queen Victoria-street . The fire repelling qualities of this substance have been proved beyond all question , and it might perhaps be svell if the authorities were to consider the advisability of its adoption in the reconstruction of our beautiful hall . It should , at all events , be svorth inquiry .

The Senior Warden proposed that the lodge gave £ 2 2 s ., and in his remards said he alsvays noticed that the British
public never took up anything which occurred in their midst as they did foreign affairs . He said that if there had been a flood in Germany , an earthquake in Italy , or a famine in Ireland , the public money svould have rolled in , whilst hardly any notice svas taken of this fearful catastrophe . The proposition svas seconded , and aftersvards
carried unanimously . After the banquet Bro . Forge went round the table and collected an additional £ 5 5 s . Both sums have been sent to the Lord Mayor . Royal Arch Masonry is making rapid progress in the metropolis , and no recently formed chapter has done more to he'p forward the movement than the Aletropolitan Chapter , No . 1507 , which has been , and is being , largely recruited from the Savoy Lodge . The popularity of the Aletropolitan Chapter is due undoubtedly to the great discrimination shosvn in the selection of the Principals , and certainly few Masonic bodies have been so successful in the
election of their officers . In succession to Comps . James Willing , Stacey , Fergusson , VV . Al . Stiles , and Hudson , Comp . Henry Stiles ( Master of the Aletropolitan Lodge ) has been called upon to rule the destinies of the chapter , and he may safely be trusted to exercise the duties of the exalted position of First Principal svith credit to himself and honour to the companions . Comps . James Willing , Sides , and T . C Edmonds have been elected to important offices in the chapter .
On Monday afternoon their Royal Highness the Prince and Princess of VVales , svith their sons and daughters , and accompanied by the Duchess of Edinburgh , H . R . Westminster Bridge-road , and the West-end Hospital for Diseases of the Nervous System , Welbeck-street . In these games the pieces svere represented by non-commissioned officers and men of the Household Brigade , appropriately costumed , svhile drummer-boys , attired as medireval pages , acted as the pasvns . All carried red or svhite bannerets , so that the opposing forces , as they moved about the board ,
svhich svas of painted oil-skin , might be distinguishable from each other . The games were actually played on a usual chessboard by Alessrs . Hoffer ( red ) and Hirschfield ( white ) , the moves as they were made being called by Lieut .-Colonel Sterling , of the Coldstream Guards , to tsvo sergeant-majors placed at the entrance to the . building in which the tournament svas held , svho repeated them to the pieces within .
But fesv mistakes occurred on the part of the living chessmen , and the svhole svas conducted svith staid , yet quaint , ceremonial . Air . Hirschfield svon both the games that svere played . The performance svas repeated in the evening , and again on Tuesday and VVednesday afternoons and evenings .
R . H . the Princess Alary , Duchess and the Dukeof Teck , visited Hengler ' s Circus , and witnessed the opening games of the grand Military Chess Tournament , held in aid of the funds of the Royal Hospital for Women and Children ,
Westminster Bridge-road , and the West-end Hospital for Diseases of the Nervous System , Welbeck-street .
A trumpet sounded at tbe call of " check , " and a loud fanfare indicated the " check-mate , " svhich brought each game to a close .
