ROYAL MASONIC BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION . — A SERIOUS DRAWBACK . To the Editor of thc "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , — I have been interested in the case of a widosv , and have issued circulars to the subscribers . Osving to the utter impossibility of obtaining a list up to date or , to the end of

1 SS 2 , I have had an immense number of circulars returned . If it be true that , as I hear , the large number of candidates has reduced the number of available lists , yet such a drasvback is a very serious one . It is somesvhat hard on the friends and subscribers to the Institution that they cannot obtain a list of the subscribers svhich is actually correct . —Fraternally yours , A CANVASSER .

To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , Permit me through your columns to call the attention of the subscribers of thc Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution to the case of Mrs . Jane Tribe , No . 57 . As her late husband , svho svas a personal friend of mine , never

returned from Nesv Zealand , svhere he svas initiated in 1 S 5 S , and died in 1 S 77 , having served a good stewardship in the Order for 19 years , and gained the esteem and respect of all svho knew him , both in and out of thc Craft , in svhich he gained by personal merit the distinguished rank of District Grand Treasurer of the Nortli Island , New Zealand , the

widow , svho for some time aftersvards maintained herself by school teaching and letting lodgings , of both of svhich occupations her nearly stone deafness has deprived her , nOsv seeks at the hands of thc Brotherhood that relief to svhich her husband ' s services justly entitle her ; but , osving to the long absence of herself and our late brother , the applicant is at a great disadvantage in obtaining sympathy and

support , except from those svho svere personally knosvn to them , such as the undersigned , who looks svith confidence to the brethren generally , and the colonial ones in particular , to help on behalf of the stranger , the exertions of , yours faithfully and fraternally , C . J . PERCEVAL , V . P ., P . M . 1 C 107 , formerly G 09 , N . Z . 8 , Thurloe-placc , S . W ., May 5 th .

To the Editor of thc "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , — Kindly permit mc to appeal for Votes for the forthcoming * election of the above Institution svhich svill be gratefully received and faithfully applied to deserving cases in svhich 1 am interested , —I am , dear sir and brother , yours faithfully and fraternally , E . F . STORR ( alias ) CHARITY STORR , P . M . 22 , and 1679 , Sic . Mayday Villa , Kentish Tosvn , May yth , 18 S 3 .

ORDER OF PRECEDENCE . To thc Editor of the " Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , — I agree svith your correspondents that the orderof precedence as laid down in the Book of Constitutions should hi strictly adhered to on all occasions . A ny looseness in

this respect can only result 111 vexations and heartburnings amongst those holders of purple rank svho arc placed below their legitimate positions . While this subject is on the carpet , it may not be amisu lo point out that the additional Grand Ollicers recently constituted are not included in the Table of Precedence , at the beginning of thc Revised Book of Constit utions . This

appears to be an oversight , as their status , insignia , & c , are carefully described in other portions of the Book . I notice also that the order of procession at Grand Ceremonials at the end of the present Book of Constitutions it . omitted in the " Revise . " I do not knosv svhether it is intended to omit it from the amended Constitutions ; but as a standard guide for Masonic processions I think its insertion desirable .
