The W . M ., who was evidently much gratified with the way in wViich his name had been mentioned and received , told the brethren that he had attained that day the height of his ambition , to secure which object he had made it his resolve to attend the lodge meetings , in the hope of qualifying himself for any duties which might be put on him . He had missed but two meetings , and that through illness ,

and , as it would be his earnest endeavour to justify their choice of him as Master , he hoped at the close of his year of office to feel , and be assured , that he had given them all" satisfaction . In responding to the toast of "The Pa ? t Masters , " Bro . E . J . Dodd made capital out of the words " We are seven . " There are eight P . M . ' s of the lodge at the present time , of

whom but one vvas absent , so that " We are seven most aptly applied . "The Visitors" vvas responded toby Bro . Rix , W . M . 8 74-Bro . Pascoe did good service at the pianoforte , and vvith Bros . Lloyd , Drewett , and others vocally also .

The time passed in the Fourth Degree vvas thoroughly enjoyable , and so short , but pithy , were the speeches that twelve toasts were given , and the Tyler stood at the Master ' s right hand at 9 p . m . A word for the toast list , vvhich the father of the lodge had prepared . The Shakesperian quotations were singularly happy , especially those which Bro . Jewell placed after the toast of the W . M . —

M ., as a recognition of the able manner in which he had installed his successor , for which he suitably returned thanks , and then the lodge was closed . PERFECT ASHLAR LODGE ( No . n 78 ) .-On Thursday , the 3 rd inst ., this lodge of instruction took up its abode at the Bridge House Hotel , London Bridge , having removed from the Old White Hart Inn , Borough , on which occasion the Fifteen Sections were worked by Bro . E . Talbot , 6 j and 1310 , assisted by Bros . J . G . Miiboum , W . M . 13 , S . W . ; and L . Lazarus , J . D . 879 , J . W . ; and also by 15 very eminent Section workers in the Southern district . It is only fair to Bro . Talbot to say that this is but the second

time he has peformed this very onerous duty , the other occasion being at the White Swan , High-street , Deptford , under the auspices of the Wellington Lodge of Instruction , and , if anything , he surpassed on this occasion his first performance . Bro . E . Talbot is but a young member of the Craft , and it reflects very great credit on him for his desire to make himself of such great use so early in his Masonic career . We are glad to say he was well supported , over 50 brethren being present from various lodges , of

whom some 16 or 17 became joining members . Among so many good workers it would be difficult to distinguish one member in particular , but we think Bro . Gayvvood , S . D . 1178 , deserves great praise for his masterly rendering of the 2 nd Section of the Second Lecture . A very interesting feature of the evening vvas the visit , in a body , of the members of the Leopold Lod ge of Instruction , under the guidance of their worthy Preceptor , Bro . Duffield , P . M . 1571 , who very materially helped in the working of the Sections .

A hearty vote of thanks was tendered to Bro . Talbot , and he vvas unanimously elected an honorary member of the lodge . Bro . Talbot very suitably replied , and concluded by proposing a vote of thanks to those brethren who had worked the various Sections , to which Bro . Miiboum responded , after which the lodge was closed , bringing to an end a very successful and enjoyable evening . We may mention that it is the intention of the Perfect Ashlar Lodge of Instruction to meet every Thursday evening , at 7 p . m .,

throughout the year , at the Bridge House Hotel , and it is hoped that the Preceptor , Bro . Bellchamber , will be well supported . Bro . Henry Stockweil , P . M . 1178 , the energetic Secretary , will also be glad to render any assistance he can to any aspiring brother , and when it is known that Bro . Pearce , the proprietor of the Bridge House Hotel , has promised to do all he can to make the brethren who attend there thoroughly comfortable , there is every reason to believe that the change this lodge of instruction has made will turn out to be a decidedly good one .
