ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR BOYS . To THE PATRONS , VICE-PATRONS , VICE-PRESIDENTS , AND LIFE-GOVERNORS OF THE ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR BOYS . Evershot , Dorchester , 24 th June , 1 S 90 . MY LORDS , LADIES , AND BRETHREN , I regret to inform you that , although the Provisional Management Committee stated to me that my " qualifications were so strong that they could not well be strengthened , " yet a majority of that Committee did not see their way to recommend me to your suffrages . This places me at a great disadvantage , but supported as I am by such a numerous and distinguished body of influential Brethren , both in London and the Provinces , including amongst others the Provincial Grand Masters and other heads of the Provinces of Cambridge , Cornwall , Cumberland and Westmorland , Dorset , Durham , Hants and the Isle of Wight , Jersey , Norfolk , Oxford , Suffolk , North and East Yorkshire , North Wales , and South Wales ( West ) , I cannot but feel that it is due to my supporters , no less than to myself , that I should proceed with my candidature , and at once announce my firm intention of going to the Poll . While it is not for me to judge of the reasons which actuated the ultimate decision arrived at by a majority of the Provisional Management Committee , yet my Committee feel most strongly that a Candidate who has the active support of so many Patrons , Vice-Patrons , Vice-Presidents , and Life-Governors of the Institution , including no less than 13 Provincial Grand Masters , should at least have been allowed to go to the Poll as eligible without being handicapped for want of a certificate of eligibility accorded to four other Candidates . I feel I can rely on the large number of votes already promised , and I trust that the Voters as yet unpledged , especially in those Provinces whose rulers have accorded me their support , will evince their approval of the course which I have felt bound to adopt , by recording their votes in my favour . I have the honour to be , Your obedient servant , S . R . BASKETT . The Voting will be by proxy on Ballot Papers { which each voter will shortly receive ) , and they should be immediately signed and forwarded to the Honorary Secretary of my Committee , Bro . W . D . DUGDALE , Evershot , Dorchester .

Masonic Notes .
Bro . R . Bradley , P . G . Sec . Berks , has received an intimation that the Prince of Wales will not be able to come to Reading for the installation of the Duke of
Clarence and Avondale during the present month , but hopes that his visit may take place towards the end of October or beginning of November . * * *
The final meeting of the Board of Stewards for the recent Festival of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys will be held at Freemasons' Hall on Tuesday next , the 15 th inst ., when the accounts vvill be presented and dealt vvith , and votes of thanks to the
officers having been proposed , the Board will be formally dissolved . Thus , except for a stray subscription or so which may be paid in during the remaining months of the year , nothing more will be heard or said of the 92 nd Anniversary Festival of this Institution .
# # # By the way , we have had a letter from our worthy Bro . W . J . Coplestone , I . P . M . 834 , informing us that he had " never had any idea of acting as Steward , " had " never been asked to do so , " and that it was
understood by his lodge that he was not going to do so . We are naturally much grieved on Bro . Coplestone's account that his name should have appeared in the list ; but we publish the names and amounts which are furnished from the Secretary ' s oflice , and all it is in
our power to do , therefore , in rectification of themistake , is to announce as publicly as we can that Bro . W . J . Coplestone , I . P . M . 834 , vvas not a Steward at the recent Boys' School Festival . The additions and corrections , & c , which we have received and publish in another part of our columns , makes this quite clear .
* * * We may also add that the Returns from sundry of the Provinces have been more or less substantially increased by the lists or amounts since received at the offices of the Institution . The total from Berks and
Bucks is now . £ 243 7 s ., instead of £ 238 2 S . ; from Gloucestershire . £ 74 lis ., instead of £ 6 g 6 s . ; from Hants and the Isle of Wi ght £ 382 2 s ., instead of £ 266 12 s . ; from Kent ^ 439 3 s . 6 d ., instead of ^ 399 os . 6 d . ; from East Lancashire ^ 88 2 s . 6 d .,
instead of £ 6 7 2 S . 6 d . ; from West Lancashire ^ 325 5 s ., instead of £ 314 15 s . ; and Surrey £ 99 4 s . 6 d ., instead of ^ 95 os . fid . The London total also has been increased by the addition of - £ 51 9 s . to . £ 3436 19 s . 6 d ., so that the grand total , which may be still further increased , is now , £ 9506 8 s .
* * * Since the preceding note was written , and the particulars on which it is founded , and which we publish elsewhere , were completed , we have received information that the list of Bro . Captain C . J .
Knightley , who acted as Steward Unattached , London , has been increased by a further ^ 21 , from £ 31 ios . to £ 52 ios ., so that the grand total is - £ 9527 8 s .
However , we dare say further payments vvill be made between now and when we go to press next week , and we shall , therefore , include this £ 21 in the list of additions so made .
